Money spent wisely , i'd get the AMX PP EL-34 amps, especially the ones with STC circuits. Best sound for budget concious people. Soundwise, not a slouch and can go head-to-head with branded tube amps and can sometimes even "spank the living day lights of other branded amps". For starters, i'd get the Push/Pull amps rather than SET. Why? The issue with SET amps is that you must have easy-to-drive speakers and most brands for these speaker types are pricey but if you have the "moolah" then by all means get the SET (AMX 300b) as this also sounds sweet. Better get the PP's para all-rounder plus you'll spend less on speakers, if i were you.
Sirs Hans and Kimpao,
Thanks for the reply, Ill keep in mind these two amps when I go audition them from Mr. Sevillia. I have made a Voigt w/ the oval RS drivers w/ a whizzer cone at 90db. Set amps will drive this Voigt right? If so, does this justify me from getting the SET instead? In you're case, guys, did you start with PP first then later got a SET. I assume you tend to own both PP and SET? Once you get a SET do you still keep your PP? What do you listen to most of the time, PP or SET? I usually listen at night when I come home from work, listening to the likes of Nat King Cole, Tyler, Fygi and Stacy Kent. Latin and Cuban music too.
