Had anybody tried to use their AN in movies connected to HT receiver? anong kinalabasan? i dont have a HT set up yet but planning to go that route with AN, only a bit hesitant on how the AN can handle the sound dynamics coming from movies.
there's already someone using AN neo's as fronts, no need to cut the freq to 80 hz because it can handle the lows easily. They are very dynamic and realistic based on monreq's feedback. High quality sound for HT, if you will ask me, its an overkill, but definitely satisfying, it will surely put a huge smile on anyones face, just look for a low powered avr with a max of 60 watts/channel. NAD is good. Actually 60 watts is a bit too much, just be careful with the volume.

I had tried using AN before as my front speakers when I still had my 7.2 with front height HT set up, my AVR was 95 watts/channel back then and my AN performed well with it, hindi naman mailakas ng husto kasi konti palang volume sa AVR malakas na, just put it in small speakers. Mas realistic ang lumalabas na sound compared to my jbl floor standers, ginagawa ko pa ngang phantom center kasi mas clear ang dialog na nalabas sa AN. I ended up disposing all my HT gears and dito nalang ako nanonood nowadays sa hi-fi set up ko. Ok din naman para na ding naka surround with less speakers...just me!!!

Have not tried it. But as long as the lower frequencies, say 80hz below, is directed to a sub, I think AN can handle it. What's the power handling ba monreq? Better audition with someone who uses a receiver to run their ANs.
Correct boss Larry.  Actually AN is made for critical listening.  If you will use AN in HT, it's superb.  But you will need subz. Coz, HT amp is designed to use with subz.  Meaning, midbass in HT amp is not as thick with analog SS or SMSL Pro amp.  Unless, you will use a 5channel power amp with 30- 40watts power handling.  BabyG with BB chip  from jojod is very good if customized for 5channel power amp+ DTS processor.  Di mo na kailangan subz pg nka 8"CF ka up.  Tapos ang cabinet box 2.8MK2,5.6MK2 or TL and TQWT.

As Iv said, pg tama ang box at mganda design ng 5ch.power amp, no need for subz. Dahil para kang nka 5ch.subz 35hz freq.sa AN. Kung gusto mo mababa talaga, mag AN classic 8 ka o Alnico 8 in TL box sa 5channels. Yanig bahay mo. Pag malaki area mo,5ch.10" alnico in TL cab.

Kaya ang laki ng tipid sa kuryente with AN. Required amp is from 3watts to 30 watts.  No need to use too expensive amp and powerful amp to make it sing at its best.  No need to treat too much acoustic treatment to get the g spot, este sweet spot pala.. :)

I will not recommend Audio Nirvana for HT. It was design for Music not for HT. Even the expert in HT will not recommend it.  ;)

I still remember david dicks talking me into building an HT using AN super 8 alnico as my LCR. Magaling din kc mangbarang to si David eh!  If ever you will use this speakers for HT, it will surely give you a different experience. Hahaha!  Tipid nga naman sa kuryente.  >:D

Yes Audio Nirvana will give you a different experience with HT most especially sa dialogue and effects but the question will it give you the impact of a true HT. For me just leave the audio nirvana FR for music and David Dicks will surely agree not unless he will design another speaker for HT.  ;)

yes bro! It will give you impact of a true HT, in fact, it will give you better impact. I have tried it with my onkyo reciever, and it sounds way better compared to branded speakers i have tried before. In fact, David Dicks will tell you that it really is one of the best speaker wether used for music or home theater. The fact that he even designed an enclosure for HT purposes proves that it is really used for HT such as the MicroMonitor enclosure. But then again, it always depend on the disgression of the owner wether to use it strictly for music or HT purposes. To each his own...

The Micromonitor (.41 cubic feet or 12 liters) was designed primarily as a surround speaker for home theater. It still makes a nice 'extension' speaker for small rooms. It is also an excellent computer speaker. You can supplement it with a subwoofer for more bass output. Many people also choose it as a center channel speaker.

The Minimonitor (.87 cubic feet or 25 liters) is really our smallest standalone system. It has full bass and dynamics and a satisfying overall balance. It also makes a wonderful center channel or surround speaker.

I would like to quote someone who is into HT and the gears he used to own (from hometheatershack forum)

LOL! This thread sounded like it might be an interesting challenge to my memory so lets see.... in no particular order:

Martin Logan SL3
Snell E/III (x2, in both oak and black)
Snell A/IIi in Brazilian Fire Maple
Snell J/IV (bought, sold, bought them back they are so good!)
DIY Sachiko BLH with modded Fostex 206E
Yamaha NS690
ADS-L810
Cerwin Vega DX-9 (x2)
Cerwin Vega D9
Cerwin Vega "E" series (all of them)
Cerwin Vega "V" series (all of them)
Lots of smaller Cerwin Vega
Acoustic Research Teledyne AR9 (how I wish I still had these!)
Acoustic Research Teledyne AR9LS (good, but not as good as the original)
Acoustic Research Teledyne TSW910 (read one line above)
Polk SDA-1
Polk SDA-2 (all the SDA are special... you either love the sound or you don't)
Polk SDA SRS 3.1TL
Magnepan MG1
Magnepan MG2
Dahlquist DQ-20i (great speaker!)
Dahlquist DQ-30
Infinity Kappa 6.1v2
Infinity Kappa 8.1v2
Infinity WTLC
Infinity Primus 360 towers with full surround compliment
Vandersteen 2C (x2 smoking good speaker for the money!)
KLH Model 23
Large Advent
"New" Large Advent
Advent Prodigy
Advent Prodigy II towers
Pioneer CS99A
Pioneer CS88
Wharfedale Dovedale (only pair I have ever seen, in person or the internet)
Wharfedale E30
Too many Klipsch to mention.

A bunch more including a ton of cheaper Acoustic Research, Pioneer, Yamaha, Onkyo, Sony, etc... Some smaller Paradigm, lots of Boston including the remarkable Voyager, and too much Bose (and rare Bose clones!) to embarrass myself with here

Oh, my currents are DIY full range towers featuring the affordable Audio Nirvana AN8 drivers in either the AN suggested 2.8MKII bass reflex cabs or my one-off 6'6" tall Metronome Mass Loaded Quadratic Quarter-Wave Tubes (say that three times fast!) Really not an "evolution" of sorts... I just get bored easily. Life is short and variety is the spice of life!

Quote from someone who tried AN for HT

I'm new to the AVS community and thought it fitting that my first post would be related to my most recent HT upgrade. I've been cobbling together my "Man Cave" for over 6 years now, since my kids grew out of the basement playroom. I've done it all on a budget using equipment I've purchased through constant trolling on Kijijji, thrift stores and garage sales. Consequently, I have owned and incorporated a wide variety of speakers into my system including Polk, Mission, Angstrom, RW Oliver, Foster and Vandersteen Audio. I have most recently installed 5 - 8" Audio Nirvana full range drivers (FRD), well two are actually coax, and am "soundly" converted to full range drivers for audio and HT.

They are not for everyone, and I've noted that FRD's tend to be slammed as a poor choice for HT and are more often touted as more of an esoteric or "old school" audiophile technology.  I ventured into the world of FRD when trying to build an affordable Center Channel that would match the performance of my previous mains, a pair of Vandersteen Audio Model 2 Ce's; award winning audiophile speakers in their own right. When I purchased an 8" Coax driver from David Dicks of Common Sense Audio, he warned me that I'd be selling my VA's shortly, which I expected was a somewhat bold over statement. He turned out to be correct.

Mangkukulam!!! Hehehe!

maraming salamat sa ibat ibang opinion from AN community..mas lumawak ung pag unawa ko..currently using AN super 8 as my main audio set up in a FS enclosure since wala pa naman akong HT receiver to try with..if ever ill have in the future, is it advisable that ill put one more FR speaker as my center having a 3 channel set up to start with? pwede kaya makabili ng ISANG AN driver lang?hehehe

pwde naman as long as you specify that you already have AN as your fronts, but it would be much better if you will purchase another three 8 inch drivers for center and surrounds instead of purchasing just 1. Kulam kulam! Hehehe!!!

Consider their linear response against other speakers in the system.

+1.

For HT, dapat ang center ang mas sensitive (ng konti or same level) ng fronts since almost all of the dialogue will be coming from there. Just basing it on my own experience

I definitely agree, thats why I suggest to have 5.1 set-up using same drivers, if you started with an 8 inch driver, mas maganda na 8 inch na lahat, kung 6.5 inch eh dapat lahat eh 6.5 din. Although meron akong nakita sa ibang forum na gumagamit ng 15 inch as LCR then 10 inch yung surrounds, okay lang siguro yun since di naman malayo ang difference sa sensitivity.

naku!!! Sigurado akong masusunog ang voice coil nun kapag itinodo mo. Pwede pa rin naman yun gamitin as long as sobrang maingat ka sa volume.

hahaha..kulam nga..5 FR's for HT parang overkill na sa bulsa ko..ok lang kung ferrites pero kung alnico at neo, di ko kakayanin..sa mga may receiver, lets say u have 2 FS FR's and center FR but have a multi- driver surrounds which have diffirent sensitivity or power requirement than your AN's, pwede ba matimpla ng HT receiver yung ganung set up?...

@newbie forever:  Currently running my AN's with tube preamp+ rotel power amp of 125 WPC...wla namang problema...dahan dahan lang talaga sa volume...the only good thing about my preamp is meron siyang control on the  signal output ( i dont know the term for this) that i can adjust it to match the sensitivity of the power amp..di masyado mabibigla speakers ko even  if i crank my volume up a bit...

very helpful sir! check ko preamp ko kung meron ganung feature. any warning signs for going too far on the volume? nag research ako pero mixed responses. in other words, what do i have to listen for before cranking the volume down on the preamp?

sorry for noobish question...

Parang mas nakakasira pa nga ung mahinang amp.
