Naalala ko lang...

About 2 years ago, I was able to meet sir Stark3 and I got to audition his Mark Audio speakers using my setup. Great sounding speakers.

Here is his DIY thread: http://www.pinoydvd.com/index.php/topic,162110.msg1637312.html#msg1637312

Here is a link showing my impression about his speakers: http://www.pinoydvd.com/index.php/topic,162110.msg1677872.html#msg1677872

I haven't heard from him since then.
I was able to read that thread when it was posted, I was also able to meet him in person, ghe is the very first guy I met in pdvd. we share the same pasion in music. we even consulted each other for the parts we intend to put on some of our amplifier/speaker builds. I am really very curious where he is now? He lives in San Juan and works as I.T. guy in makati. Asan na kaya tong si Daniel?

I am curious with how the Enabl'd 126EN differs from my 126EN. I am not convinced those tatoos and duct seal do anything.

Anytime you add mass to the speaker cone it will have an effect to the sound, now whether the effect is good or bad that's what I want to find out also  :)

Might have something to do with those measurement issues. Very sad.

Ah.

Well, I respect your decision Mark. If it had become more trouble to you on many levels than it was worth, there was no point in you or MA staying here. It is very unfortunate that the only driver manufacturer who took the trouble to interact with end users has now left DIYAudio ; also a terrible shame that it has also inevitably resulted in the loss of hundreds of threads with useful data, designs, ideas etc. Not a happy day for DIYAudio.com

Sir Larry, that has been brewing since last year. May mga members na galit kay Mark, one I particularly recall is: isang member nasira nya ang MA drivers nya dahil sa maling mounting, di ginamitan ng pilot holes kaya kumayod ang screws nabasag ang frame. From his tone sinisi nya Markaudio for not putting instructions how to install & asking for a replacement, tinabla ni Mark dahil magkakaroon nga naman ng precedent. Since then, that member went bashing MA drivers na. Yung nag-start ng thread if you will believe hasn't build a "proper" speaker enclosure, lahat ng post nya puro made out of foamcore boards. Ang gamit nya is $20 mic, a laptop and a freeware in his measurements. Draw your own conclusions  ;)  :)

May mali rin naman si Mark, minsan masyado syang defensive about his products na tumatalon sya beyond his own MA thread to call out somone. Can't blame him, he loves his products. I think it was a good decision to leave DIYaudio and start his own forum under markaudio.com. His drivers are well regarded in Japan, competing with their local Fostex in terms of sales. In fact the CHN-70 which was in question sa measurement thread was made specifically for the Japanese market, nag-request lang yung ibang kano & canucks na irelease din sa NA. The last thing he needs is a few know-it-all to add to his everyday battle.

Might have something to do with those measurement issues. Very sad.

hindi nya dapat ginawa yon, out of line sya doon,

Ang sinagot nya is another topic, yung tanong nung isang member na may Markaudio CHN-70 driver na balak gamitin sa pick up truck, he posted the same question sa MA thread & full range section. Pina-delete ni Mark sa moderator yung sa full range thread kasi duplicate topic & he felt na mas masasagot ng MA thread since mas maraming may experience doon using the same drivers.

Sabi nung member, naisipan nya ilagay  sa pick up truck dahil in his experiment experiment nilapag nya mababa sa floor ang speakers then oriented it up-firing. Mas 3D daw ang image & may phantom center compared to ear level, dun na sumagot yung isang member na nag-start ng "objective measurement" thread and posted a link to his measurement findings and stating the VIFA TC9FD model is the best among its class.

I know all this kasi subscribed ako sa both threads as I frequently comment sa MA & full range threads sa diyaudio. I receive email notifications whenever a new reply is posted.

Not true, off axis is where they shine best. If you are using full range drivers you know for a fact that no one likes to listen to it on-axis kasi meron talagang hot spot most of them. I've listened to my Alpair 10P both on & off axis, I've tried all speaker placements you can imagine, the best is 15 degrees off axis.

issues like these are discussed in the back room and deliberated upon
and when a consensus is reached at unanimous ang hatol,
then action is taken....
and in the case of paid forums like that of Mark's
Jason is on top of things, his word is law...
Jason and Mark talked on skype about this and had a good talk...
let us wait for things to cool down a bit...
i am sure those threads will be still accessible in the future
unless Mark ask them to be taken down....
the real issue there was that Mark poked his finger in the public threads,
outside of his paid for forum where he had no moderator powers...
he was out of line doing that...that was agreed upon by mods...

update: Mark agrees to archive his threads so that they are still accessible...

Eto ang mali ni Mark, he asked the mods to close the duplicate thread in full range sub forum which they did. Ang ginawa nya he created a new thread sa MA section then copy-paste the comments of the member who started the "objective measurement" topic and hinamon nya ng one-on-one discussion.

May bad blood na yang mga yan last year pa and it's the same group of people who are overly critical with MA drivers because they've had issues with it before. When they questioned Mark about it mostly ang gist ng sagot ni Mark is "I know what I'm doing" or "You're an amateur, i'm an expert". Ang katwiran ni Mark; if you are seeking clarification PM or email me because some of my answers might be a business/industry secret. It's a cultural thing din e, Briton si Mark (but based in Hong Kong) and I personally know how they differ to Americans in terms of perception.

Mark is not the best salesman but I love how he ask DIYers for input in developing his products. He is the only speaker designer to my knowledge who does that.

"naisipan nya ilagay  sa pick up truck dahil in his experiment experiment nilapag nya mababa sa floor ang speakers then oriented it up-firing."

Digress lang kaunti for people's info. My friend did this floor mount on his Civic using another brand. Boxes were false floors. One speaker was mounted on the driver's side. The other on the passenger side. The theory being the sound reflected off the windshield. Compared to stock door mounts, the sound path was longer. The longer paths of the floor mounted speakers had less discrepancy with each other compared to the door mounted speakers. Mas equal ang time alignment.

The result was very distant, focused images down to bass. I was blown away at that time. I never achieved that in my car.

Now back to regular programming.
