I just renovated my room, got a velodyne 1012, B&W602S3 and B&WLCR60S3, imagine the smell of the room. Bili ka na rin, Hyperaudio and Sonny of Hometheater gave me a good deal. If you want pa renovate mo na rin sa akin ang room mo  :)

wow!

i think magandang match yang 1012 with the 602. have been using the 1012 with 303s since july: parang malaki ang gap nila sa lows. with the 602 siguro seamless na ang low frequency range basta timplado nang tama at na break-in na sila pareho. in fact, 601 lang sa tingin ko malaking talon na, pero mas maganda nga siguro kung may kaunting allowance.

yun nga ang mahirap, meron na akong lcr-3 to match with my 303s. sa bagay wala pa akong rear center, pero matinding gastusan nanaman para ma-i-match with a 602.

medyo nalalakihan ako sa lcr-60 sir. parang dadapa ang super liit kong TV -  pag pinatong ko yun sa ibabaw. masikip yung rack ko kaya dun ko lang puedeng ilagay for now. anyway, did hyperaudio (rene) and sonny tuazon advice the lcr-60 to match with the 602? is the lcr-6 a better 601 match?

sige sir. congrats again for your new setup! i agree that the receiver should go last. unlike the b&ws, receiver prices are headed downwards.

Levi,

By the way, what kind of receiver are you using? I hope it is not a bright receiver. Medyo mapihikan yang B&W eh. I've heard it with Yamaha and sumakit ang tenga ko. I had a Pioneer before, yung low end pero may DTS na, and matining pakinggan.

Ikapbit mo yang 602S3 mo with seperates and oooohhhhh ahhhhhhhhhh... Listen to the 602S3 at B&W Shangri-la na nakakabit sa separates. Pakinggan mo din yung doon sa Upscale Audio in Mega Mall using yung separates nila... wow!!!

tuff_u_gong,

Yung LCR60 is a good match for both the 601 and 602. The LCR600 is for the floorstanders like the 603 and 604. Yung 600, talagang pang surrounds lang iyon.

Thanks,I chose the 602 because konti lang difference sa price ng 601 pero malaki ang difference sa size and output. The LCR 60 is smaller than the LCR 600S3/LCR6S2 but a lot bigger than the LCR3. It wont fit on top of the TV so nakatayo beside the TV . Next step ko ang B&W600 for the rear but Im not in a hurry, my Wharfedale is doing fine and its the only speaker that fits my rack.
I had the same problem before with my 300 series, I was planning to use it for the rear but it wont fit so thrown out sa living room nalang. If ever I will be able to buy a tube amp at least my speaker na ako.

Levi

Myki,

Im using a Yamaha 496. Of course I want a new receiver to maximize my new speakers pero no more money. Mas masakit na bulsa than my ears.  Next time nalang or except may magandang deal. What are you using now?

ooops...nagkamali ako...kinulang ako ng mga zero(0). lcr-600 pala yung malaki. lcr-60 pala yung mas maliit.

as for the 600s3 model na designed for surround...ano ang matching rear center dyan? puede na ba ang lcr-3 dyan or isa pang lcr-60?

i auditioned one recently kasi interested nga akong marinig kung malaki yung difference ng lows nya with the 303 kaya lang di pa na break-in yung demo unit kaya siguro parang walang difference. wala rin palang binding post (yun ba ang tawag don?) for biwiring tulad ng bigger 601 and 602 models.

sabi sa B&W literature on this model puede naman daw gawing front speakers 'to. ang isa pang ok dito is meron syang provisioning for wall mounting - mas madali ring isabit.

tuff, nold: may tawad pa siguro both yung kay hyper n yung shop dito sa sing. pero mukhang mas lower pa rin ng konti yung kay hyper... dito kasi sa sing monopolized daw nung shop yung b&w speakers, kaya more expensive...

makes me wish i bought 601s sa pinas and brought 'em here with me... for the price that they're asking for the b&w 601 eh pwede na ko bumili nung dynaudio audience 42 or quad 11l...

tuff, congrats on ur setup!

stradale,

Congratulations on your purchase! :D  I'm sure you'll be extremely happy with your decision.  Just wait till the speakers get broken in.  :)

With the addition of the receiver and sub, you'll have a very good setup there.  It'll be quite a long time before you'll want to replace any of those components.

I, too, have 601's for my surrounds.  Had them for about 2 years now and they certainly get the job done.  :)

Anyway, have fun!  ;D

Everyone,

Can anyone advise as to what minimum AVR wattage is necessary to drive B&W 600 to get good sound? I'm still planning to buy an AVR for B&W 600 speakers.

Thanks.

not exactly an expert, but when i purchased mine i asked around and was adviced to get something over 100watts (@ 8ohms). some people here suggest that having slightly overpowered amps are better than underpowered amps.

try sending a pm to the mods.

My Marantz SR7200 is 110W per channel and it handles the job perfectly. I heard it with the SR5200 which is only 85W per channel and it still sounded great.

Aside from power, you should also get equipment that is "warm" to match the "exact" quality of B&Ws. Warm AVRs I've heard would be Marantz and NAD. Bright would be the cheap models of Pioneer, Yamaha (old models).

B&W sounded great with separates and even with tube equipment which I saw at Upscale Audio.

Have you tried auditioning B&W with Denon or Onkyo? Which one gives better sound?

I've only tried Denon. Actually, I was supposed to buy the 2802, but after hearing the Marantz, I changed my order immediately. The difference is obvious when listening to music but they seem the same to me with movies.

Sorry, I wasn't able to try the Onkyo. Why don't you listen for yourself. They have both B&W and Onkyo stuff at Upscale Audio.

emm,
It looks like you're going to be another addition to the many B&W fans out there. Maybe the people here can better help if you can give the details of what you're considering. Such as:
1. Have you looked at specific receiver models already?
2. Will you be mainly listening to music or watching movies?
3. What B&W models are you looking at?

I'm also no expert, but I've had the DM603 (first series?) driven by just a Pioneer VSX(?)-9700 for more than 3 years and I've had no problems with it. Incidentally, these are all hand-me-downs from my father since I still can't afford to buy one of my own.

I'm looking to get Denon 1803.
2. Will you be mainly listening to music or watching movies?
I would say 50/50 listening and watching movies.
3. What B&W models are you looking at?
   Front : 602 S3
   Center : LCR 60
   Rear : 601 S3

Emm,

I suggest you save for a higher model, at least a 2803. B&W's are power hungry. If later on you'll be investing into DVD-Audio or SACD, you will need to supply all your speakers with clean and pure power for the music to really sound its best.

Kaya 1803 ang pinipili ko kasi 2802 is out of budget na. How about comparing 1803 and Onkyo SR700. Which one is better?

Frow what I've heard and read about the 2 models, I would go with the SR700. Onkyos newer models are on the warm side already.

A friend who owns Dynaudio speakers is looking for a Marantz SR7200 but since 2 months na siyang naghihintay for delivery, he decided to just get an Onkyo... but he's still thinking of going on with it or waiting.

The Denon is very good too but the Onkyo SR700 is in a higher features level than the 1803.

You really need to test it all with your speakers. And please, try it with a Marantz SR5200 or SR6200 (or SR5300, SR6300) as well. After that, just get the one that suits you the best.

Per Sonny Tuason, the Series 3 B&Ws that I recently obtained (602,601,LCR60) are power hungry relative to Mission, et al.  To avoid power droops, he advised that I drive them with an AVR stronger than the Onkyo TSX600 that I planned to get.

With that in mind, I am now choosing between the Denon 2802, Onkyo TXSR700, and Yamaha RXV1200.  I know my original budget is now all shot to hell but then again I wouldnt want to end up with an HT setup hobbled by lack of grunt.

I'm going to Home Theater to audition AVRs but guys, I'd appreciate your thoughts.  Right now, I'm leaning towards the Yamaha because of the good reviews but am concerned by comments that B&Ws get too bright paired with Yammies.

I have the Onkyo TSX 600 and the exact same speakers you have, in a medium sized room. It sounds pretty good, and plays loud and clear on audio and home theater. Go ahead and buy the TSX 600 and use the 10,000 pesos you save towards getting a velodyne subwoofer in the future.
Hyperaudio has this AVR with the 601, LR 60, and 600. You might want to audition this set-up, or better yet bring your 602 and have him move the 601 to the back so you can listen for yourself. Although I didnt buy my Onkyo from him, he gives a good price on it

Blade,

You can audition it at Listening in Style in Shangri-La or in Listening Room in Megamall.

I was able to audition an SR4200 that was sold here in PinoyDVD for P14,000, nagulat ako since it sounded similar to my SR7200 but with a bit less power.

I got my SR7200 for P35,000. I think the same level for an 1803 would be the SR5200, mga P22,000. A bit better is teh SR6200, mga P28,000.

But, Marantz just launched a new line, the SR4300, SR5300, SR6300, SR7300. Check out www.marantz.com.
