guys help naman. I just bought a 2nd hand Aegis Evo 1 speakers for 8K. i never thought about it actually. Myfriend just told me to buy it kasi mura daw. And he knows am planning an audio setup soon. Siguro spur of the moment I bought it. Okay naman when it was auditioned to me paired with an HK. Now i am looking for an amplifier to pair with it. Any suggestions? May nagsabi okay daw yung DARED I-30. am really new to this any suggestions and/or comments would be highly appreciated.

Sir I would suggest you get an amplifier that has output power rating 2x that of your speakers. It doesn't matter if tube or solid state. This way the speakers can be driven properly.

I use to own an Aegis too, i had driven it with a 20 wpc na vintage na marants, 50 watts na pioneer na integrated and a 35 watt tube, all had decent results.

     +1 :)

Sir if it would not be a hassle to you, to be on the super safe side, I suggest you bring the speakers, probably even the speaker cables, interconnects and cdp that you will be using when you audition a certain amplifier. For me thats the only sure way to see if (in your opinion) the amp is a good match for the speakers. Its either that or you will play the "audio guessing game" which sometimes turns out to be costly. ;)

As for me, I hope to be the owner of an AE aelite2 bookshelf soon. Its next on my list unless i get side tracked and the culprit would be a dali ikon2. ;D from what ive heard they are quite similar sounding though. :)

I'm actually using HK/AE combo - AE Evo series (AE Evo 3, center and Evo 1 for surrounds) except sub, still looking for one to match...

I'm very happy with it  ;D

That is my last stop in replacing my speakers... just need a sub to finally integrate with it that is budget friendly...

I miss the sound of my AE Evo 1s (Im suspecting the new owner also posted on this thread) paired up to a Harman/Kardon HK 3470.

One of the biggest mistakes I've done in the world of audio.

Anyway, lesson learned.

I preferred the sound of my AE Evo1s as compared to the old 602s, the new 685s were hit or miss, depending on your material

Yes, AE Speakers are also good speakers.

I am lucky enough to own the AE Evo 3, center and Evo 1 speakers.

Hi guys, I also have an AE Evo 1 which I got from Ivan last year. It is part of my room setup along with the Dayton DTA-100. I'm still very happy with this setup.

@mikeer2002ph how does the Evo 1 compare with your Polk Audio Rti A3?

Ketch,

From my experience here at home, the american Polk RTi A3 is the equivalent of the british AE Evo 1s in terms of bass/midrange/treble and imaging.

Construction - considering the AE use more expensive metal alloy cones (ala CMMD of Infinity) vs. tweaked composite cones of Polk, AE wins.

Only caveat with the Evo 1s is the required 'toe-in', proper stands and a bit of allowance from the back wall for it to match the holographic imaging of the RTi A3 on stock wall mount. RTi A3 sounds even better with allowance from the back wall, proper stands and toe-in.

They're neck and neck when it comes to low frequency extension, especially in concrete rooms from low to moderate volumes, but Evo loses to the RTi A3 on high volumes since the Evos tend to bottom out on loud bassy passages like the cannon fire on Tchaikovsky's the 1812, Vangelis' Movement #3 and R&B songs.

The RTi A3 wins on high frequency extension, reminds me of the Dali Ikon 2.

Midrage is where the Evo beats the Polk .. almost listening to a B&W 6XX series.

Aesthetics, Polk wins - you cant beat the curved cabinet, real wood veneer on the Polk RTi versus vinyl veneer on the AE, Although cabinet mass/density goes to AE - It weighs as much as the RTi A3 despite it having a smaller cabinet (siksik kung baga)

I got the Evo 1s for 13K in 2006, and the RTi A3 for 20K 2010. If you think about it its bang for the buck.

Practicality goes Polk - you just turn on the amp, load in the CD and play then listen passively. with the Evo you have to be 'interactive' - lessen the bass when the volume is loud, boost it again when its low, more toe in for classical, less toe-in for rock/R&B.

So there's my first hand experience with my former Evo 1, and my new RTi A3.

Thanks for giving that review for both speakers. My first speakers were the TSI 100 and I still have a soft spot for Polk Audio. I'm helping out a friend build a system and I'd definitely recommend the RTi A3 to him.

Off-Topic

Oh well, I kinda gotten 'spoiled' with the RTiA3s, especially now they are wall mounted - basically 'floats' on the listening area.

On-Topic

I never tried the AE Evo1s as a PC speaker. Maybe I should have LOL ("what might have been" mode: on)

Spectra in Park Square still has an AELite 2 (big bookshelf MTM configuration) although the price was a turn off considering its been there since 2006 when I got my AE Evo 1s LOL

AE used to be peddled by beyond innovations (distro of JBL/HK/Infinity) I dunno why they decided to part ways.

Anyway, I'd like to hear the AE Neo V2 Bookshelf, hopefully its as behaved as its elder brother the AE Evo 1s

Hey mikee. Check this out. The new ae compact 1.

Home page>Compact Series
Compact 1

The Compact 1, Acoustic Energy's smallest ever full-range loudspeaker.

Designed to be used as a stand-alone stereo pair of speakers or partnered with a sub, the Compact 1 is easy to position in any room. Coming supplied with rear port bungs and wall-mounting brackets, the versatile Compact 1 will produce a sound belying its tiny dimensions in terms of scale and quality wherever you choose to place it.
Where most speakers "boom" when placed on a shelf or against a wall, the Compact 1 will retain its composure - producing a large-scale and powerful delivery of any music. Positioned conventionally on stands, the Compact 1 performs at its optimum and displays true "Hi-Fi" quality sound.

Srp on the net is around $250 - $300. :)
