^ that is kung medyo mahaba pa ang oras. Allan Caidic was a good example of that kind of play.

The six-foot-five Paras, who is this year’s World 3x3 slam dunk champion, was spotted at the victory party of the Green Archers last Saturday, where he was seen with businessman Eduardo “Danding” Cojuangco, who is considered La Salle’s top sports patron.

I’d be loyal kasi si Boss Danding pa 'yung tumutulong sa akin, so I’d be as loyal as possible,” Paras, who is currently a high school junior, told Spin.ph. “Malamang nga dun na ako. As of now, 'yun na muna siguro masasabi ko. I’m leaning towards that (playing for La Salle).”

Long have I ranted against these unfair and unethical practices.

In the US NCAA, this is considered BOTH unethical and illegal and will result in some heavy fines and school/player suspensions ...... here in Da Pilipins, it's out in the open for everyone to see and the unwitting press to marvel at.

On the flipside, we still can see some vanguards of truth. It's ironic that the man was once a member (via marriage) of the crony elite ...... but Tommy Manotoc was always a sportsman and played fair.

He and a few other alumni (Kurt Bachman) were the first, and perhaps the only ones, to lambast DLSU officials and it's recruiting practices e.g. fielding ineligible players from 2003-2006 ...... all leading up to DLSU being suspended back in 2006.

Here's his very truthful column, filed on the eve of this year's game 3.

Where’s the UAAP headed?

It appears to me that the UAAP has now quite a situation in its hands.

With the way the outcomes of the games are panning out, the league, indeed, has much to think about. It seems to me that this is a perfect time, before the final game is played, for the board to rethink where the league is headed and what its intentions truly are.

Let’s not kid ourselves into believing that the UAAP is still only a collegiate league that merely facilitates the provision of scholarships to those athletes who can’t afford the tuition, promotes sportsmanship among its student-athletes, and provides a bit of entertainment for the college student and alumni alike.

Those days are long gone.  Just looking at the amounts of money that prized recruits are receiving boggles the mind.

Could this be why many of us seem to be losing our sense of objectivity, logic and civility, passing judgment and observation on the events that have transpired this far, only to the tune of one’s particular music and color?

The league is clearly masquerading as a college league. In reality, it has already turned commercial in a big way.

The schools involved have always had their pride on the line. What is different this time are the investments involved. The money spent by each school to reach the Final Four is enormous. Consequently, there is now too much at stake in each and every game that is played.

The question now is: Is this the direction the UAAP board wishes to continue to take? Is this the direction we—students, alumni, investors—wish the league to take?

If previously, these collegiate leagues were established to promote sportsmanship, and so that everyone involved should have a bit of fun, should we now just accept the fact that schools these days use the UAAP as part of their marketing strategy to promote themselves?

Perhaps the UAAP board should look into how they could put some checks and balances on how much is spent on the recruitment programs to make it fair game for all schools.

For at the rate it is going now, there will be only a couple of schools who will be able to build a competitive team.

Also, since we also want to develop our local big guys, including the Fil-Ams, the board could also consider putting limits on the number of imports of non-Filipino lineage in the lineup of the team.

Perhaps with these measures we may regain the values which had prompted the league’s founders to put up the UAAP in the first place.

Ayos, in 2 years DLSU will have a 4th year Jeron, a Kib and Perkins 3rd year, and a Mbala and Kobe rookie. Plus a 5th year AVO if he stays.

Honestly, I don't want that Mbala player in La Salle. Parang ang dumi pating maglaro based on that youtube links.

sadly not many would agree with you or Tommy on this. Many basketball fanatics now a days would remain to their cause of being avid fans and supporters. Championship is all that matters, how the game is played would be secondary. Many schools would resort to all means just to get that championship NO MATTER WHAT. Gone are the days were the school would play for pride or players for that matter. Nowadays when you hear of players playing really well in their early years, only three schools would come to mind when they play college basketball. Even in volleyball the same is true. Nowadays when money talks, a lot of people listen.

I dont even think this is going to improve at all, what with the PBA being run by the same people running the schools that is into getting blue chip players even as early as them learning how to walk. Talk about investing at the earliest.

From SPIN.ph again:

UAAP ban on foreign players imminent

If this gets approved and they implement the ban on imports in Season 78, tatamaan nito si Mbala and the ADMU imports?

No. Teams will only be prohibited from recruiting foreign players by 2015. Foreign players recruited before then but are just serving residency will still be allowed to play. That is if the UAAP decides to copy the NCAA version of the ban.

I'm from La Salle but I hope he gets to play in the U.S. It would be a good opportunity for him. Basta hindi lang siya bangko. Kung hindi, sayang lang.

Another addition to La Salle

Kobe Paras picks La Salle over UP, report says

http://www.abs-cbnnews.com/sports/10/15/13/kobe-paras-picks-la-salle-over-report-says

Di pa naman daw done deal, only if he goes to school here.

http://www.abs-cbnnews.com/sports/10/16/13/kobe-paras-not-yet-done-deal-dlsu

I'm no fan of the guy but Romeo's decision to join the draft makes a bit of sense. He's not mature enough as a player yet but 1 more year with FEU won't really help with that. Kasama pa niya si RR Garcia and he was a ball hog already. Nash Racela can't handle him.

Joining the PBA could be good for him. Tougher coaches and tougher players. His antics won't work in the PBA. If he wants to get playing time, kailangan niya baguhin laro niya. That will speed up his maturation. He's no Calvin Abueva. He can't play the same way he did in college and expect to be successful in the PBA. He'll have to change fast. If he stayed with FEU, lalo lang siyang magiging buwaya.

And if he played 1 more year for FEU, hindi na masyado mabango pangalan niya by the time magpadraft siya. He can't join the draft in 2014 kasi sa August na uli yung draft at ongoing pa UAAP nun. He'll have to join in 2015 na. This year, he's coming off an MVP season and there are teams that need someone like him.

Krets, Andrada had ACL...just like when LA Revilla had Dengue and Diabetes problems, he sat out one year and "joined" the coaching staff...same with Yutien.

Jon/Onedown...LA Revilla will still play one more year and this has been confirmed...so DLSU will be intact + 3 more players to complete the 16-man roster...Yutien is No. 14 so 2 more...Thanks!

Hindi na yata. He applied for the PBA draft already.

Sorry to disagree but Torres was one of the reasons why DLSU won the Championship.
Torres played quality minutes and hit timely shots (including that TREY that gave DLSU the lead after trailing by 15 pts).
