philander,

di ba yung pioneer 566k 'dts digital out' lang din at di 'dts surround'? btw, how would you know kung yung SRS ng xtreme ay label lang at di totoo?

Yes, walang onboard decoders ang 566K kaya DTS digital out lang.

I have a very minimal exposure to extreme 6500 set-up menu, medyo wala akong nakitang SRS functionality.

But i think merong VSS - same purpose ng SRS, virtual surround using two speakers.

Extreme 6500 owners please confirm.

People,

Better aks the opinion of Monzki & Alfie regarding the heating problem of the extreme resulting to rejection or non playability of DVDs.

You can PM them regarding this.

hmm...interesting! xtreme is one of those few generic players that have exhaust fan so i don't expect the overheating problem. can monzki and alfie confirm this? i'm just wondering...most of nextbase models have no exhaust fan and yet there's no overheating problem. ::)

No need to send a PM....I am posting my response to one of the members who sent me a pm, asking me about  my views on the merits of the Xtreme DVD player;

I have the Kebao, Nextbase and Xtreme DVD players and I can specifically state that the Xtreme is the bestbuy among them, why??
      Well for the following reasons;
1) It has a progscan with a VGA,RGB omponent out.
2) It has no subtitle glitch problem which the Kebao is notorious for.
3) It converts PAL discs to it's correct anamorphic ratio..whic again the Kebao is notorious for.
4) It decodes HDCD, DVD-R,DVD-RW,JPEG which the Kebao and Nextbase cannot.
5) It has controls on it's faceplate, so even if your remote goes or gets lost, you'll have no problem looking for a replacement.
6) It's a lot more cheaper than the other 2.

I cannot comment on the Skyworth, since I do not own one(I'm not interested in the models that are currently available, but I will surely get the 2750 once it's available here in the Metro).

I only posted about the "potential" overheating problem since I believe that all the new chips being used are susceptible to such changes and the installed fan is not enough for 6-8 hours marathon viewing...in fact I supported my view with the report that the Xtreme DVD players being used in Quiapo, exhibits poor performane in the late afternoon, due to manner of it's use and possible abuse.

In fact, I only recommended that one should augment this by adding a 14" or 16" desk fan to help dissipate the heat and avoid the potential overheating problems.

So far I have not encountered any problems with my Xtreme.

In the end it's still the buyer's decision, just remember that DVD players are electronic equipments and in the end, all are subjected to heat degradation.

Nope...they do, in fact most of the DV9000 and the slim type that conked out were traced to boiled degradated chips.

thanky for the review bro,  ;D

4) It decodes HDCD, DVD-R,DVD-RW,JPEG which the Kebao and Nextbase cannot.

my kebao kb6089 can play jpeg. not sure about dvd-r and dvd-rw coz i don't have them. kebao can't decode hdcd i guess.

5) It has controls on it's faceplate, so even if your remote goes or gets lost, you'll have no problem looking for a replacement.

this is what i like when i was considering the pioneer 566k then. now that xtreme is a clone of pioneer 566k...i can have a pioneer 566k @ P3.2K which can play those p-dvds. ;D

how do i know if a disc is HDCD?

Generally it is indicated on the label. It has HDCD logo on cover or imprinted in the CD itself or both.

Some CDs do not have any markings in the CD or label.... through compatible hardware  (HDCD players, eg. CD, DVD, Receivers or sound processors with HDCD decoding capability) you can determine the CD if it is HDCD or not.

To xtreme DVD users,

I notice during my test of the player yesterday the remote control has no AUDIO button (like Kebao or nextbase). I am planning to use Rongxin 89DV with this player. Whenever I put a DVD, it start playing using stereo format, and I am at a loss how I will toggle between DTS and DD kapag 5.1 format. Hindi rin ako masagot ng shop na binibilhan ko. So I defer buying the unit for now. Thanks for any help.

Di kaya media compatibiity lang ito:

You may try the following:

Update the ASPI of your burner.

Try to use the blank disk of other brand to burn.

Try different media, such as: DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R or DVD+RW (if these are supported).

Please try lowering the burner's speed to burn.

Choose the 'BURN-Proof disc protection' check box if your burner supports these features.

If you have some hardware devices that are currently connected via USB port like compact flash card reader, removable drives, etc., then please just unplug them and close all running applications like screen saver and memory-resident applications (system monitor, anti-virus application, etc.) as they may cause error as well before performing a data write/system conflict.

Thank you.

Most of them are in DVD-R format (DVD-ROM for safer term).

I have Kebao 2089/3089 and Nextbase 305/315

I got 5 units of xtreme 6500 after testing it. In addition to the above pros/cons in comparison with Nextbase 305/315 and Kebao 2089/3089/6089:

KB (kebao) do not play my Kodak Gold CDR and some pDVD materials I have which NB (nextbase) can
- KB has good equalizer (which is the reason I still keep the player), and I use the PERSONAL setting, but always default to its original setting after being put off
- KB has DTS decoder (another reason for keeping the player)
- in spite of the exhaust fan at the back, KB is still hot during playback
- you need to enter setup in order to choose between ANALOG or OPTICAL out

NB (nextbase) can read all my CDR and pDVD materials (reason why I still keep my NB)
It has BASS BOOST and SUPERBASS setting which maintains the user setting
it has no DTS decoder
also do run so hot during playback
automatically detect ANALOG or OPTICAL out in use
It has video adjustments (brightness etc)

I am looking for another DVD player that will have both the strength of my KB and NB. I waited patiently, reading all the review of Skyworth DVD, and Kebao 6089 and the NB 783/785. The skyworth, just for its faceplate beauty, does not deserve my hard earned money. The NB783/785, though has DTS decoder, does not justify its cost because of its "pagkasuplado" with some disks. The growth of extreme reviews, though,  are so slow that I need to wait a little more

When I am sure that Xtreme has DTS decoder (and an exact faceplate replica of Pioneer 566K), I started looking at the unit and tested it against the known weakness of both NB and KB. The Xtreme can replace both of my (KB/NB) units without me losing the features (listed above) why I kept the two (2) units.
Furthermore, I like the addition of Xtreme under EQUALIZER - the TREBLE BOOST. Having both the TREBLE and BASS BOOST in ON is like the LOUDNESS switch of robust integrated amplifiers of the past which is not present anymore in new AVRs to compensate for low-volume listening. The remote is luminous at night, and better than Kebao 3089/6089. Inspite of continuous 3-hour playback, the case is still cold - the fan is working right. It is available in silver or gold color. The service center is at unit #65 of RAON II as indicated in the warranty card. 6mos replacement warranty and another 6-mo repair warranty. and only at 3300! why make a DVD player a mere decoration in your AV gear? I make it work as the center AV gear, pay less for it, and run it continuously free of playback hassles.

Thanks for the users who verified and posted all the features of this player (Alfie, prespirit, et al). Now selling my KB and NB players.   8)

nice review aHobbit!

even before you posted your review i already have a strong 'feeling' that this xtreme is a better generic player because when i searched through the internet i found out that the maker of xtreme is a seasoned manufacturer of dvd drive for personal computers.

For those who are using Rongxin 89dv, the xtreme dvd player has function to adjust each channels' (5.1 channels) level individually, to achieve balancing of level in a 5.1 setup.

guys, question....

i connected my Xtreme indirectly to the TV set... kasi i pass through the vcr (which is mono only)...

my problem is when i try to play tv series dvds, i get echoing from the tv.... whileas when i play movie dvds, ok naman siya there's no echoes whatsoever... i've tried tinkering with the settings but to no avail...

i'm gonna try connecting it directly to the tv later, since i hafta buy a longer av cable coz the one that came with the player is too short.

what seems to be the problem here? have you experience any of this?  thanks!
