How are you, sir? Was told there was another earthquake aftershock at 1:00PM today? Stay safe!

Hi Superman, all OK here, your quite correct a small aftershock but enough to make you sit up & say 'aye aye, mother nature's complaining again'.
No phone or internet for 24 hours, a truck tore down our telephone line yesterday, now repaired.
Thanks for your concern sir.

was the construction site affected by Yolanda? hope nobody was hurt. :)

Hi DTNS, I spoke too soon, a truck tore down our telephone line yesterday so no phone or internet for 24 hours, repaired now. Fortunately not 1 peso of damage to the site, sent the workforce home Thursday night & just the wife's brother & 2 brother in law's keeping an eye on things (they're over from Mindanao). They got rather wet but due to the lie of the land they were fairly well shielded. Thank you Lord.
Thanks for your concern, I feel really heartbroken for those that have been badly affected by Yolanda. Coming from the UK events like this are only news but now I'm part of it, it really is an awakening.

Ok, thanks mate.  I was just curious why Asustor and not Synology or Qnap.  But hey, Asustor has an impressive NAS line up with a tempting price tag.  This company is quite new to this network storage industry (~3yrs) and I'm still in 'monitoring' mode.

I hope your family is OK in the midst of this terrible phenomenon happened in Visayas.

Thanks for your concern, we were fortunate, no damage, injury or loss. Yolanda passed just to the north of us, we had high winds & rain for 5 hours, anything remotely loose or weak no longer exists.
Yes Asustor is fairly new, it's the networking arm of Asus. I considered both Synology & Qnap but as a newbie to networking thought the Asustor would be easier for me to work with. Also the cost was appealing, I had it loaded with 4 x 3TB Barracuda NAS drives & set up in raid 5 for around P63K (in the UK). There is quite a good review on CNET & they also compare all 3 brands.

It's good to hear that you and your family are OK.

Yes, I've read good reviews about 302T as well. Let me know how XBMC performs in the field once you've set it up.

Thanks!

Hi Ricky, thanks for the concern, it could have been so much worse.
I was quoted P69K less 25% for cash + freight for 5KVA Stac's. I got these at Belmont Depot 7.5KVA P21.5K & 10KVA P24.5 less 5% for cash + free delivery - no contest.
I got them oversize to allow for future development  ;D ;D ;D

wow, the price of the 5kva STAC is more or less the same as the price of a 5kva generator set. i'm waiting for belmont's 10kva generator set to arrive, i need it badly at home.

Sir where is Belmont Depot?

Hi Superman - M.C. Briones St., Hi-Way, Mandaue City.
They have 2 outlets side by side Hardware on left Tools on right. These larger AVR's are in the tool outlet.

Thanks Ricky, my thinking was that although Japanese AVR's are good quality they are also very expensive. These are Chinese & to be honest there is not a lot in them to go wrong. When you work it out at 5KVA I would need 3 costing P155K after discount, my 2 Northstars cost P43,700  so I could replace either one 6 times & still be in pocket.

Northstar also do a 5KVA, same set up with 2 transformers but front to back rather than vertically mounted (would fit at the bottom of a rack, weight 25Kg) costing just under P16K.

I'm begining to think along the lines of a small generator just to run a few lights & the fridge freezer. Losing power for 3 days was a bit of a wake up call.

since you now reside in cebu, that is not a bad idea. we always have power failures here unlike the UK that you seldom experience it.

You're correct there, I can only ever remember 1 power cut (a transformer blew up) & 1 scheduled shut down to replace equipment. It's only since I've been here that I've begun to appreciate the services that I took for granted in the UK. Having been here for 7 months I've got my Filipino head on so I'm beginning not to worry too much about things. As we will have a very large fridge/freezer I don't like the idea of losing a lot of moneys worth of food, less cash for upgrades  ;D ;D ;D

Thanks Louie, That's what I'm hoping for, we have a foundry close by & get many fluctuations. When we move into the new house we'll be 2Km further away so I'm hoping the problem will not be as severe.
