I was shown the light and nagkaron na rin ako ng idea for my CDP upgrade. hehehe.

Anyway, here's my list in order of preference for the top 3 cdps (impressions ko lang ito ha mga bosing, nothing to be taken seriously for the others i didn't choose

).

1. Exposure 2010
2. Rotel RCD-1070
3. Sony 337 ESD and Denon 1015 (tie para sa akin yung dalawa)

But seriously everything boiled down to ones own preference. To think of it,

panalo din lahat nung cdps.

Thanks to our gracious host - Sir Obet, for having the bunch of us 'til way past dinner time. It was very nice meeting all of you guys and if there is one thing I've learned from this event, it is this - tubed amplification is the way to go! Panalo yung tubed amp ni Hans at yung mga tubed preamps:).

BTW, I thought Rony's Exposure was the clear reference CDP of this shootout. It resolved the details, was the most balanced in its presentation, and had me tapping my foot the hardest (to audioslave's James Bobchak CD). The surplus Sony ESD of BGA VI was a giant killer (literally too, it weighs in at 27 lbs.). Amazing SQ for the purchase price. Magandi din yung Usher ni Jun. Hindi pa fully broken-in pero its already right up there.

to all those who were not able to make it-there's always a next time...we missed you though

as to the entries, to me its a toss-up between the rotel 1070 and the exposure(not because i also use a rotel player

)...the surplus sony is a revelation...excellent choice if you are looking for a spare player

btw, sino sa inyo ang nakaiwan ng power cord? kainis, walang kakabit na tube amp ung power cord

kay odyopayl yung tono, iceman. kinabitan niya lang ng aluminum face plate (ang ganda, pre. 3/8" an aluminum sheet tapos computer cut ang linis tingnan parang antique sound lab na face plate) at tube guards sa gilid. Yung isa naman kay rstube2003 DIY, panalo din sir!

i think it was the Sony 337ESD that first installed the TDA 1541 DAC chip in Japan in late '80s and therefore, it should perform well. that chip, made by Philips if i'm not mistaken, was the favorite for early European high-end CD machines. i've read somewhere Sony installed two of these chips in the 337 instead of just one. amusing, since this model was retailed surplus from P1,000 to P1,500 here in Davao last year. i had heard one and it was good. when i read about its DAC chip folly, i went back to the shop where i saw it but it was gone. i'll go hunting these next few days.

Drawing talaga ako. Di ako nakapunta. sayang iyong comparison between HK DVD 22 and SONY ES DVD Player ni Philander. Bigla Overtime on a Saturday kaya di ako nkpunta.

Guys, thanks for posting iyong results. Mukha madami nnman pupunta sa pier to look for this SONY ESD CDP.
I think if I will have this player it will totally match sa SONY ES amp ko.

Doon sa owner ng exposure - how much does this unit cost? I understand this is not a surplus, right?

Thanks for the feedback guys. Im sure you have enjoyed the day. I was planning to replace my sony 337 ESD cdp but now I changed my mind

, unless I will have funds for an exposure 2010,

. For now, Ill keep my sony cdp. luxman itegrated amp and ws tono pre amp combo.

Guys,

advice lang doon sa mag-hunt ng killer SONY CDP sa pier. Don't show to the dealers your eagerness to buy. Baka mag overpricing. And hope nobody tells to the dealers at PIER about the resut of the CDP shootout.

Nice experience iba talaga ang tube tumunog, sayang pauwi na kasi ako bitin tuloy. Sir Hans ganda ng Tube Amp mo, Sir Kim wala ba kapatid 12au7 (Amperex) mo? Ganda ng Exposure at Rotel 1070, the best talaga. To all the guys sa shoot-out nice meeting you mga sirs. Sir narayan champion ang SS set-up nyo, salamat po sa accomodation at sa food. Sayang di natin narinig mga DVD players.

Ndi ako bibili dre. natanong ko lang. It is amazing how a surplus CDP made it to the competition. Kung no doubt lang ang reliability ng Surplus CDP. marami talaga kukuha nito.
