- The CD5400 CD player employs the latest digital-to-analogue converter and CD transport mechanism, delivering the highest musicality as well as convenient features - The Auto Music Scan (AMS) quickly finds the music on the disc and the Quick Replay enables to repeat favourite passages - It plays CD-R and CD-RW discs and displays CD-Text information such as artist name, and track titles - A choice of coaxial or optical digital outputs guarantees the best cable connection

OK to ah... CD-Text capable na parang yung Exposure?? will definitely get this as a 2nd player and as a birthday gift to myself... he he he

i'm sure may remote control din eto? it comes in what colors?

Actually the Usher of odyopayl, broken-in or not was very impressive already. I'd be curious to know how it would sound when fully broken-in.  And like you said, its built for upgrading like a PC  (pull out that Geforce 3 and plug in a Geforce FX).  Odyopayl, which component is this? Opamp ba?
It's a 8 pins Integrated Circuit (IC ) in my usher stock is OP-amp 2134 made by Burr-brown (BB) I'm hunting for AD8066 made by Analog Device. Mine is already socketed no need for soldering once you need to upgrade it, I'm sure it's the same with your Rotel.

Well we had a good line up of CDPs featured during the shootout and personally i find them all good sounding but only differing in some aspects—i dont have a golden ear that can detect the minutest detail and what is lacking for each of the CDPs tested. My perception is just based on what my ears dictate without knowing why?

The exposure blended superbly well with the MF amp (yun nga ba ang ginamit?) and MS 914 speakers and the 25,000.00 spkr wires. Though the gap in terms of overall sound quality is not that much, for me, next equally in line would be the NADs, Rotel and the Usher, followed by the Denon and the Sony.

Between the two NADs, i think the older one is slightly rounder on bass, though the newer NAD is better on details. The Usher and the Rotel are almost the same to my ear. If i will be asked to choose, i’ll just get the cheaper among the 3.

I also like the Sony because it has a good slam on the bass, but the denon’s execution of the vocals is also excellent.

If i have the money ill get the exposure for sure, there is not much thinking to do. but sometimes you will enjoy more if your equipment is very cheap but yet you will be able to obtain the best sound by employing other gadgets to improve it. So, the 2k sony’s performance improved when it passes through the tube preamp. Maybe if it will be partnered with a very good performing tube preamp plus good matching speakers and wires, it can sound like the exposure—haha so youll enjoy because the overall cost would not even go the level of the price of the exposure...

I also noticed the gain clone of jojo. It seemed to have fattened the sound of the voice just like what a tube preamp does. Truely, we have a lot electronics geniuses in the forum’’ Jojo keep it up—magkano ba yung gainclone mo?

What was so controversial to me is the 25,000.00 speaker wire we used. i wish we thought of a wire rolling din, to know the sonic capabilities of the wire, as compared with the generic wire like the audio pro which was preferred to be used with the gain clone of jojo...

Another observation--- the performance of the MS914 was stunning... i heard it performed when that was newly bought by Sir Narayan.. it seemed to me that his MS Bookshelf spkrs were more rounder and have a tighter bass before. So i think the break-in of his MS 914 made it well.

to all those who attended -- nice meeting you all bros.

Those chips are available at Newark Via Access Frontiers in Makati. The ad826 is about 5 dollars each. I don't think you can buy AD8066 with the adapter unless you buy from LCAudio which is ridiculously high. But you can buy the browndog adapter at Cimmaron Technology but minimum is 5 pieces (hmmm group buy?).

But if you really want to upgrade the cdp, consider changing the capacitors to better quality and/or higher values for better regulation. Change the rectifiers to HEXFREDS. Bypass the PS caps with wima or other better quality film caps. Get the best quality cap you can get for the output capacitor. Take out the muting transistors. Install a clock. KWAK Clock 7 by Elso Kwak is freely given by Elso , just email him and ask for the schematics. I have it and I've seen it and its not hard to do and it won't cost an arm. Actually the schematics are available at DIYAUDIO as a zip file if you have the patient to search for it.

The amount I spent for upgrading mine is just P1,145 for the panasonic capacitors (I tripled the capacitance of most of the PS filter caps) and WIMA film caps. I had rectifiers (MUR860s) on hand and would've cost me P391 for 8 pieces if I bought them instead. Also got the AD826 as samples abroad (which is P5 dollar each so P560 for a pair). So a capacitor, opamp, and rectifier updgrade will cost you about P2,100 depending on which parts you use.
Thanks GRAP it'a a big help for me! Hope to meet you someday to consult my player.

I have my gainclone connected to a teac c1-d, i like the sound, very natural and no hint of sibilance, the problem is the teac c1-d is picky with cd's with scratches, so i am now in a hunt of a new cd player, the rotel cd-1070 is a choice because its not picky with cds, anyone tried the cheaper (relatively speaking) rcd-02??

Hi Jonh5479,

I have my RCD02 for 3 months now and so far ok naman. I have 3 old cd's with scratches that my previous CDP(CambridgeAudio D500)and my JVC DVD player(XV-M557GD) can't read properly - either jumping tracks or stuck on one of the track, but RCD02 plays them with out a problem. I also tested it playing a burned HDCD(using Nero) and it plays perfectly.

hope this helps...
