You're absoloutley right bury3. The box set is awesome. Unfortunately the supplimentary disc has no subtitles. Nevertheless for fans of asian dvds this is a "must buy". Not only this comes with a supplimentary disc. The boxed set also includes a 311 page 8 1/2 x 11 book titled 2009:Another Memories Of Jang Dong Gun.  The book Includes contains all full colored prints of the posters that were released in Korea. Images and interviews, characters and castings, pre-production and production details.
     Got the disc from Parc.

hubes: il mare's really nice, if you don't think too much about plot loopholes (these time warp things can get complicated sometimes). besides, jeon ji-hyun is real easy on the eyes (she had this hit before my sassy girl)

dbdbd: thanks for the heads up. now i wanna go back to hk just to get new discs. it's sad about asian dvds though, i mean, about those supplementary discs or additional features. they rarely have subtitles (and some of them can be really interesting, if only you could understand what they're saying).

recently saw my boss, my hero (usual gangster/jopok comedy, good for a few laughs, but i felt a bit bitin) and take care of my cat (felt like watching a reality-tv show, but i liked it)

My Life as Mcdull

Has anybody here seen this film yet?  With what I've read so far, I'm considering buying this title for my daughter.  Is the movie any good?  Would it be appropriate for kids under five years of age?

I would appreciate any feedback.  Anyone?  :)

A must buy for asian horror enthusiasts. Just got this from PARC. Three short scary stories from three young and promising directors from Hong Kong, Korea and Thailand. Packaged in a three disc boxed set. 1 dvd per director.  Just got to watch the short from Hong Kong, not as scary as The Ring, The Eye or Dark Waters. But very promising. Can't wait to watch the remaining two discs. Cover reminds me of the pictures from The Others. Spooky!!

Mighty baby

Also from PARC. A light comedy featuring Rosamund Kwan and Liu Ching Yuen. Still have to find time to watch the film. Well, anything starring Rosamund Kwan is already worth buying. Thanks again bro!

Volcano High

Synopsis[/b]

When Kim Kyung-soo is thrown out from his eighth school for blasting a teacher with a super-energy filled piece of chalk (The beginning part of the movie), he promises his family to finally graduate and not get kicked out from school. However, the ninth school, Volcano High is his last resort. It's going to be a rough final year for Kyung-soo because Volcano High is a school that doesn't welcome newcomers. He will have to duck the leaders of the weightlifting team, kendo team, rugby team, judo team and of course, the school administration.

I. The Video

One word WOW to start!

Anyway the first disc which holds the film itself boasted its crisp ANAMORPHIC widescreen presentation. If it is MEGASTAR HK DVD got to say GET IT! they present the finest quality Asian DVD Video. A Flawless viewing satisfaction.

10/10

II. The Sound

With enough action packed in the film add it with a superb DTS korean soundtrack! Man.. It rock so hard that your neighbors will think they've just experienced an earthquake!

10/10

III. Special Features

Thats is why it was made as a double disc! The second is fully loaded with eye popping features! to be detailed here is the run down..

A. Synopsis
B. Film's Characters
C. 2 Volcano High Trailers
D. Volcano High Music Video
E. Deleted Scene
F. Story Board vs Final Version of the Film
G. Behind The Scenes
H. More Film Attractions
   - The Touch Asia Promo Tour (YES, with selectable subtitles)
   - The Touch
   - My Beautiful Girl Mari
   - Summer I Love You

So?? take ur time a lot are really in-stored!

10/10

IV. My short note

My question, Are you an ANIME fan? If so all the elements in watching an action fantasy anime is included in this Action Fantasy Korean flick. To Critics, nevermind the cheesy comedic showing just sit enjoy and have fun viewing it! The action sequences are out of this world. The closest comparison of such effects can come close to Shaolin Soccer with stunning CG effects mixed with gorgeous martial arts action and comedic approach.

The actual DVD comes with a carton slip cover and a double disc keep case.

Inserts are
1 HK Media Asia scratch raffle stub
4 Volcano High Trading Cards

I almost forgot.... Despite shown as Region3, the two DVDs were able to run in my Region1 Xbox Player!... Hooray!! could this be multi-region?

Excellent!

V. Overall Recommendation

Going straight to the bottomline: AQUIRE IT! The Whole Family will love it!

10/10

*Pls take note that the DVD I aquire was the HK Megastar Release

Anybody know where I can find Fist of Legend (Jet Li - Jing Wu Ing Xiong)?

I'm not talking about the R1 release by Dimensione (that one sucks), but a real Asian release that has the film in it's orignal Cantonese (and optional Mandarin) vocals and at least Chinese subtitles.

Thanks!!

himura,

maybe in Chinatown? I've seen VCD/DVD retail stores in Chinatown that sells only Chinese movies, don't know if they have Fist of Legend though. But you're right, all R1 Jet Li films sucks... get the original HK released ones :)

Would appreciate any recommendations for Asian DVDs in the suspense/horror/thriller genre.

I am not really interested in gory or slasher-type horror but more of films like The Ring, The Others, and the Sixth Sense.

Thnx.

I also want an orig copy of Shaolin Temple in DVD format. yesterday sa Destiny Cable (channel 20) palabas yung Shaolin Soccer! too bad wala akong capture card. heheheh.

I wish meron store sa philippines na nagbebenta ng mga HK Movies. I ask Astrovision Megamall, SM City, Greenhills, Robinsons Metro East, they don't have So Close, Double Vision, The Ring, and the one that Xage recommending The EYE.

None.. If ever you saw one its definitely a BOOTLEG (Pirated)!

Why?

1. The Ring was only released in DVD by Japan and Europe
2. Both release from the said countries are PAL and Not NTSC (which is our standard)
3. VCD wise, YES there are but its already out of stock.. when your lucky to obtain again its BOOTLEG(pirated)
4. Beware, normal BOOTLEG cover of the Ring has a TARTAN label on top.. bootleg yan but then again if ur curiosity is to view the film why not.. I rather suggest view it while its in limited release in Greenbelt and glorietta
5. Lastly.. There is NO NTSC Release!
