Correct bro. Just don't bother yourself too much on which to choose, I bought without auditioning because I have already worked with most of the chips that were used in the 707.

Wag mo masyado isipin si Marian.  ;D ;D ;D

patok na pala ang 707!

kay sir tamy ba galing yan?

Jojo,

A tube newbie question...

What is the difference between a 707 DAC and the CD tube buffer?  If I have an Ipod Touch which of the two would best improve the SQ of compressed music?

Thanks

Sir JojoD already explained the difference, but I might have a suggestion on what to do with the iPod Touch. Check Wadia's website if it's compatible with the iTransport so you can use the iPod as a storage device, then use the Wadia to transmit digital data to the DAC. bassnut uses this set-up with the MusicalFidelity VDAC, the V10D would go great with that. But try JojoD's tube buffer, the new MF's SS ;)

This is what I did just now...

iPod > Laptop > 707 DAC > JD Labs Tube Buffer > P4 Headamp  8)

That way my iPod is just a storage device...  ;D

Tomorrow naman...

iPod > Laptop > 707 DAC > Aikido Tube Preamp > JD Labs SS Power Amp  ;D

BTW, Stagea's tube buffer has the first, newly revised circuit.

A 707 is a digital to analog converter where your input signal is in digital format via coaxial, optical, or usb (from pc). A tube buffer is a line level device where you insert it within the analog signal path. For an iPod Touch, the 707 would be utterly useless unless you open it up and bypass the onboard DAC of the iPod and connect it to the 707 which I doubt anyone would do.

Thank you for the clarification.  I understand it now. Audition should be my next step...

Actually, if you're going to use an outboard DAC, it's best to use the source MP3/AAC file unprocessed.  So the ideal setup would be:

laptop --- DAC via USB (or if you have a Mac, DAC via the combo headphone out/mini-toslink) --- Preamp/Amp

Given Bossing JojoD's setup, he's still using the DAC of the iPod to send the file to the laptop, even when using a dock connector.  You can only get an analog signal out of the ipod, unless you get a Wadia dock, which is the only dock that Apple has enabled to get a digital signal that bypasses the Ipod's internal DAC.

What I do is I use iTunes and an Apple Airport Express as transport, and feed it off a MF VDAC.

Laptop ---- wireless to Airport Express ---- to VDAC via Toslink ---- to integrated tube amp

When I did not have a tube amp or DAC yet, eto yung setup ko:

Laptop ---- wireless to Airport Express ----- to MF X-10 D via analog 3.5 port ---- to NAD320BEE amp

no brader, not just for laptop... it has optical input and coaxial input that you can also use for your cd players.  ;)

ako una sa pila sa line out project na yan, pero kailangan ko muna magkaroon ng iPod Touch hahaha!  ;D ;D ;D

Pila din ako sa line out project mo!  Pang office, para sa Bose desktop speakers ko.  Mas maganda talag tunog ng Ipod pag galing dock connector.  Hindi sumasayad yung tunog.

Boss Jo:

Pardon my unsolicited suggestion:

Dapat yung 2 kamay at 2 paa mo tig-iisang project ang ginagawa, divide mo lang sa 4 sectors yung mind mo para may focus for each and every project. Pero sa dami, baka di mo pa rin ma-fulfill yung pila.

I'll just wait, although patience is not really my virtue, but I'll wait...

P.S.

Bilisan mo na, pls? pls? pls?
