This is what I did just now...
iPod > Laptop > 707 DAC > JD Labs Tube Buffer > P4 Headamp
That way my iPod is just a storage device...
Tomorrow naman...
iPod > Laptop > 707 DAC > Aikido Tube Preamp > JD Labs SS Power Amp
BTW, Stagea's tube buffer has the first, newly revised circuit.
Actually, if you're going to use an outboard DAC, it's best to use the source MP3/AAC file unprocessed. So the ideal setup would be:
laptop --- DAC via USB (or if you have a Mac, DAC via the combo headphone out/mini-toslink) --- Preamp/Amp
Given Bossing JojoD's setup, he's still using the DAC of the iPod to send the file to the laptop, even when using a dock connector. You can only get an analog signal out of the ipod, unless you get a Wadia dock, which is the only dock that Apple has enabled to get a digital signal that bypasses the Ipod's internal DAC.
What I do is I use iTunes and an Apple Airport Express as transport, and feed it off a MF VDAC.
Laptop ---- wireless to Airport Express ---- to VDAC via Toslink ---- to integrated tube amp
When I did not have a tube amp or DAC yet, eto yung setup ko:
Laptop ---- wireless to Airport Express ----- to MF X-10 D via analog 3.5 port ---- to NAD320BEE amp
