Please allow me to rant a little...
My biggest gripe about watching Maximo tonight was not the film itself but the environment. Having to endure the pseudo intellectuals and ersatz artistes surrounding me, I suddenly remembered why I never really go to the premiere night of a local film. While waiting for the movie to start, the crowds surrounding me were so noisy, shouting at people they know, trying to be as loud as possible. Whoever said that "artists" and "theater people" should be obnoxiously loud should be put inside a blender and pulsed to death.
I also hated the fact that I had to endure meeting some of my former friends who are still working in the film industry. These are people who I saw change their personalities just to become more acceptable to the "in" crowd. A good friend, who eventually turned her back on the local film industry once said, "Sa pelikula, kakainin ang pagkatao mo." Truer words were never spoken.
However, it was a pleasant surprise to see an old friend, film maker Sari Dalena, back in the Philippines. I hope that girl starts making narrative films soon. She's a great talent.
Rant over... Hurray for Maximo Oliveros!!!
