1. we formatted it via the nmt apps installer; you have the option then of formatting the drive in either ext2 or 3. for external drive, we usually use NTFS, but as joms can attest, it has a performance hit (slower throughput = stuttering in busy scenes)
2. yes, you can. slim external drives are expensive (4k?) but we tried doing a full sized drive (1.5k ish) and an external casing (700) and it should work. strangely enough, nobody really asked for this. might be different if you store files in dvd-r's like some people used to do, before the advent of hdd-based storage
3. yes you can, you just need that software that allows you to read/write to an ext2/3 volume. the file should be in that cd that came with your unit, or if you're lazy, you can search and install ext-IFS (installable file system). just make sure you connect your egreat (via usb or esata) first then read the instructions carefully (read only option OFF, ENABLE utf-8, ENABLE large file support)
4. ill post it in a separate post, so it can be easily referrable. but it's as simple as setting your workgroups to a single workgroup name, then accessing your egreat via my network places. you can also do it via START>RUN>\\<nmt ipaddress, ex: 192.168.1.10>
5. the usb dongle requires a specific type of dongle, namely a wireless N dongle with an atheros chipset. i personally know only 2 brands that have it (not sure if there are newer ones), namely tp-link and trendnet. we carry the tp-link but trendnet didn't have it then. abacus v-mall used to carry the tp-link dongle too. the problem is, i'm not 100% sure youc an connect the wirless N dongle to a b/g wirless router. it should work on a PC, but i think it might be a driver thing on the nmt's before that prevents it from connecting. don't expect hd streaming though
Hi Richie, i have this Egreat EG31b for the past few weeks, enjoyed watching movie using this toy, it's about time to try the other capabilities, i have some questions though:
1- how did you format the internal drive? NTFS, ext3 or ext3 (never tried hooking this up to a pc yet)
2- can i connect an external usb dvd rom and be able to play back mkv files from a back-up disk (if yes, do you have external dvd drive for sale in your shop? tiyak maraming bibili kung sakaling pwde gawin to)
3- can i directly copy files to and from the internal drive, hooking this up as slave drive to my pc? do i need some driver to do this?
4- maybe this was already posted somewhere, can you sort of write a simple tutorial on how to successfully connect this device to my home network (i have no home network at present, but would really like to know how )
5- and what about this wireless dongle some people are talking about, can i just buy a cheap one from you know where and expect this to work?
thanks a lot...
