By default, the videos are showed in their native aspect ratios. You can zoom horizontally and vertically if you want to take out the black bars on the top/bottom and on the sides. There is also a feature where you can adjust the height and width manually in 5% increments to remove the black bars.
The movie is divided by Mede8er into small chapters for easy access to certain scenes of the movie. While viewing the movie, just type in a number and it just jumps to that scene. You can also manually input the exact time in the movie where you want to go to by just pressing the Goto button in your remote and inputting the data.

I got my first chance to see the Mede8er in action yesterday at Ehome. The only concern I have is the way it handles Aspect Ratio. Perhaps I just didnt have enough time to find the correct settings but in all available AR settings (Pan Scan 4:3, Letterbox 4:3, 16:9, 16:10), something did not look right in my eyes - either a little bit stretched fat or thin - and I was able to discern the difference with that of Egreat when I asked the nice lady to turn on the Egreat 32 nearby and watch the same content.
I guess there must be another setting to force the native AR of the file (called Actual Size under Egreat) via Mede8er.
However, I wasnt able to try that incremental horizontal and/or vertical zoom. I imagine that must be the way to fix the slight stretch.
Update.
My Yamaha 757 is not HD audio compliant but playback of pure BD files with DTS-HD/MA with DTS audio is successful. My Mede8er is set to SPDIF Passthrough - hence the DTS/DD limit. I guess this verifies that the Mede8er downmixes DTS-HD/MA to regular DTS. GOOD for us without new AVRs ;D
Subok naman ang TrueHD later because "dont disturb mode" and wife with that BD file. ;D
BTW, subtitles are working even with the native BD files. ;)
a. Ehome's demo set-up is connected to the Marantz AVR via SPDIF (optical). By setting the Mede8er Audio to SPDIF passthough, sound output is possible for BD files with DTS-HD/MA audiosteam. My guess is, the Mede8er has the capability to downmix DTS-HD/MA to regular DTS - or is it the AVR that downmixes to DTS??? Im not sure, but the Marantz displays DTS on the front panel. Either way, at least audio is indeed audible.
b. When the soundstream is TrueHD, the Mede8er displays UNKNOWN AUDIO FORMAT message, hence although the m2ts streams are playing smoothly, there is no sound output. Im not sure if this limitation is caused by the Mede8er itself or the Marantz AVR (I can read DTS-HD/MA compliance on the AVR but no mention of True HD). At any rate, this is fine by me for now - switched to the regular 1080p DTS version muna. ;D
sir, if you have a budget for mac mini and NMT features lang kailangan mo, try to source out for a TVIX ... wala ka ng hahanapin pa - including TrueHD and DTS-HD pass through ... i've setup mine with one internal 1.5TB HDD and an external 1.5TB HDD via USB without any issues - NTFS is the default formatting of TVIX, including the external disk

All of my external hard drives are NTFS. So far all of the movies I've watched doesn't stutter or lose audio. If you are using an internal hard drive for the Mede8er, the Mede8er formats it for you.
What's the chipset of your Egreat? The Mede8er uses a Realtek chipset which is a big improvement of the previous chipsets in terms of playback and boot up time.
BTW, maybe the problem with your Egreat is a firmware upgrade lang. Have you updated to the latest firmware? Usually all the bugs are slowly being repaired through firmware upgrades.
I can attest now that boot time is definitely faster than my Xtreamer. ;D

I finally tried playing some pure BD rips using my Egreat 31B last night. What I observed is that the 31B plays the m2ts streams ONE AT A TIME (and you have to select the stream) and then returns to the main menu/list. Im using the latest FW on the 31B already. I dont know the fix yet (and how the Egreat 34A does it) but the Mede8er "stitches" the m2ts streams properly for continuous playback from start to finish if you choose "Play The Folder" (BDMV) - assuming the order of m2ts streams is correctly defined within the BDMV folder.

I think you should press play ">" on your remote to play m2ts files in your bd rip folder. I was able to play the whole movie 10,000 BC by pressing the play button.

Just tried his with my egreat m34a, pag play ">" nga ginamit it stiches the various m2ts files and goes on to the next one. Problem is with titles like 9 and Gladiator, hindi ata consequential yung numbering ng files. It plays the opening Universal logos, basic menus, Playstation control instructions parang it jumps and in the end never really goes into the full feature presentation, back din to the egreat GUI.

Additional external storage connections are found at the side with an SD card reader (for direct access from your camera's memory card), 1 slave USB port (for attaching the Mede8er to your PC for management and transfer of files in your internal HDD) and of course 2 USB slots for your external HDDs.
Personally, I would prefer the USB ports at the back. I just don't want to see some cables coming from the sides in any of my AV equipment. :-\

Ganda di hamak ng porma ng 32B compared to the Mede8er. The Mede8er is really boxy and plain - but works absolutely great - sans HD audio passthrough (yet?).

Raptor is the Tvix 6500 Jedi. I guess market prices are still between 15K to 20K pesos but Im not sure about availability. However, the Mede8er loading time may be a lot faster than the Tvix.
Mede8er is so fast that if you connect a lot of HDDs simultaneously, naka-boot na yung system while all hard drives are still initializing. If too many huge HDDs are connected simultaneously, it cant be helped because all those drives have to be initialized first. It's so fast that when I scroll up and down through the contents list, there is no time for the preview to get activated. ;)
Apparently, the Tvix 6500 plays native BD rips like BD players - complete with menus. The Mede8er plays the BD folder "directly" but you can likewise select the specific M2TS file/stream as how most other players handle pure BD rips. I havent tested a BD ISO on the Mede8er - sa March pa.

Made a downpayment na on my Mede8er sa Ehome.
Got na din a 2 TB Internal Seagate harddisk to go with it.

If your file (m2ts or MKV) has DTS-HD/MA or Dolby TrueHD audiostream and if your AVR can decode these HD audio variants, then a media player/streamer with HD audio pass-through is desirable.

Yeah perhaps there are some differences in image quality between a Sigma powered player and a Realtek one similar to how an FFDshow decoded image differs from that of the more efficient CoreAVC. But then I haven't really figured that out between the Mede8er and the Egreat 31B. The only thing certain is that the Egreat 31B is very very stressful in many ways and you just have to live with its limitations. ;D

Mike, I don't see that display on my Mede8er. Are you using an internal HDD in your NMT? I suggest that you format the internal HDD via Mede8er. I'm using all external drives formatted to NTFS without any problems. ;)
i'm currently using an internal drive, but i think the message appeared even before i installed the mede8er.
i was wrong about the message though, it's actually:

then it disappears to give way to the mede8er main menu.

Ext2, Ext3? Is your computer's OS in Linux or do you have a utility that can read Linux File System? But I am wondering why Mede8er is not seeing it, I don't have the mede8er but as far as I know it can read linux file system.Sir yung computer ko ay windows xp ang OS nya. I'll try tonight using my sisters egreat if the files will work, but before I bought it we tested the HDD and it works fine.

version 3 is still in the works, i believe the latest version is 2.1.0. based from what i've read at the mede8er forums, if your mede8er is working fine, don't upgrade it. the latest version is meant only to address the request of some owners regarding the format HD issue experienced with version 2.++

Actually sir if I may suggest lang... the JAN 2010 is the best FW so far :) you will see the difference kapag nag update ka from DEC to JAN FW :) FYI lang po...yun kasi ang situation ko before..
I have been using the Mede8er for a few months now, and it has given me a TROUBLE-FREE experience. In fact, I have recommended it to friends already. Plus the service from E-home is great!may i know how much kuha mo ng mede8er mo with 2TB internal hard-disk?
Sa mga newbies like me, or those who want a simple-to-operate, trouble-free system, just get the Mede8er with a 2TB internal hard-disk (good for around 200 movies) and you are good-to-go for the next 2 years.
Very portable pa and convenient to bring to out-of-town trips and show to friends, coz you only bring 1 unit since the hard-drive is INSIDE the unit, unlike the others which uses external hard-drives.

Nelson, I dunno. But just attach the external HDD to a regular computer and just check in from there. Should be a simple procedure.

I'm looking to buy my 1st media player, currently I have narrowed it down between the Mede8er MED500x and Xtreamer Pro.
I know there isn't a lot of insights to go on for the Xtreamer Pro, but would just like to know from the Mede8er users, would I be missing anything the Xtreamer Pro has to offer if I decide to buy the Mede8er?

The new Xtreamer Pro can have two 3.5" internal hard-disks while the Mede8er can only have one.
A big plus for Mede8er though is excellent service from Ehome.

2x2TB maximum internal capacity. Ang init nyan. Madali nga lang bitbitin and i-pack kung dadalhin mo sa travel or sa ibang bahay. Do you really think you need more than 2TB of data when you move the device around? I do..hehehe..but I dont mind carrying the drives separately because I dont like internal connection - RISKY sa data. ;)

Just so you know, the A200 is even better than the Mede8er. I have both. I love both. I recommend both but if you dont mind spending an extra 2K, the A200 is definitely worth it no matter how ugly it make look.

As for your connection. well it depends on the receiver. Usually kasi yung entry level receiver what you put in is what you can pull out. Example kung hdmi in po pinasok, dapat hdmi out ka. Some can't mix and match

i was not fortunate enough to try out that "stable / stock" firmware kasi pag bili ko nung akin they installed the newly released one. To me it's quite stable naman. :)

E mas mabilis pa si Reynold tumakbo sa Ehome kesa sa start-up ng Mede8er. ;D Good tip nga pala yon. When you buy the unit, ipa-update nyo na yung FW sa Ehome then tsaka palang playback test. If the unit seems to be fine with the latest FW, then pay & bring home. ;)
Some people say 3.0.4 works fine already and the Mods in Mede8er Forum are using that FW, so it must be stable enough. But for most of us, 2.1.1 is just fine.

I just have one concern. Does any of you experience lag or sometimes unrecognized HD? It happened three times already, whenever I turn on the Mede8er, it will show the logo then poof, blank screen. I need to turn it off and on again sometime three times for the interface to show. I will be bringing it back to eHome and have it checked next week. Still, Mede8er is an excellent machine and I am happy with it. :)
Haven't experienced that on my mede8er bro, what's your current firmware? try version 3.0.4, it might solve the issue :)

now this is indeed close to reality, madalas un-stable ang mga external drive especially usb powered...
Pag USB powered yung external drive, use BOTH (2) USB slots sa Mede8er side (bale use that 2-to-1 USB cable). That will supply enough power to the external HDD to make it work well.
Pag internal ang connection and problematic, goto Ehome immediately..hehehe.
Medyo nangangati ako sa DTSHDMA and Dolby TrueHD passthrough but I dont have the proper AVR and my Mede8er is not even DD+. :(
DTS 1.5mbps core sounds quite good though. Or perhaps I just havent tested DTSHD at 4.5mbps? Baka parang DIY vs Branded Sub ang labanan? ;D ;D ;D

I wouldn't blame the TV as it is just a receiver. Mede8er should be the one solving the problem since it is the media source. I am only being particular about the LD460 series which is considered the newest LG model in the market. I already wrote and posted on the Mede8er forum and they are aware of the issue already. They shouldn't expect people to replace their TV just because their media doesn't work with it. Yes, like I said, switching to 720p is not a welcome solution. It was a discovery as I was finding a way to solve the problem. It also led me to a conclusion that is indeed a handshake problem.

Just a word of WARNING though, Mede8er has a bug when paired with an LG LCD TV particularly the LD460 series. I have a 37LD460 and it is having problems with the HDMI signal handshake. Whenever I turn the Mede8er on, it will show the 8 logo then, poof! A "no signal" screen will appear. It would require a reboot before it shows the GUI. It is actually not a big problem but quite annoying specially if you get calls from your kids while working telling you the media box is broken because they don't see the interface on screen even when the box is on. A little experiment led me to discover that putting it on 720p @ 60hz will do the trick but in a way, you are down sampling the resolution. Not really a great idea but it works. I am hoping Mede8er will include the solution when they come up with the firmware update or I will return this and get an Extreamer Pro instead.

Yes sir, that's right, hindi pa kaya ng 3.04 pero upgrading to this version is another way of knowing that your mede8er is capable of HD aside from having a blue sticker at the back of the unit... I think no choice but to sell your realtek players dahil wala talagang chance yung chipset natin. Im sure maraming interested (if the price is attractive) because hindi rin naman ganon kadami ang encodes with HD audio..and they are really big files.

do you guys really collect and store 20-45gb movie files in your hard drive so you can opt to play in true high definition sound?
i ask because i actually changed my paradigm after my internal HD died and all my HD files got lost...
I do. Never really intended to collect those pure BD rips but someone asked me last year and eventually I got hooked. So now Ive got a lot of those kinds of files. Not much on sound quality because I dont have the proper AVR and I cannot crank up the volume in Tokyo without inviting the police or building management, but I like the image quality to be as close to the source as possible - the richness or depth of colors, the lack of compression artifacts, the lack of image enhancements, the image filling out the screen without having to zoom (this is what happens if you play a 720p file on a full HD screen).

.. but based on my compare vs. mkv files, i still find the actual BDs better than rips both in audio and video.
If you can manage to get any 25-40GB pure BD rip and your NMT is capable of smooth playback, do give it a try. Kapag at least 18mbps na ang average bitrate ng video, it's pretty darn high quality image already. Of course depende pa rin sa quality ng original. For instance, something like Gladiator's Remastered version really blew me away...and Se7en remastered too - parang cine talaga.
mga sampler lang collection ko na HD audio. hindi ko pa nakita avr ko na umilaw yong dolby digital plus. i want to see it thru my downloaded DD+ files. ;D

Yeah try to find the 45GB pure BD rip (BDMV Structure) of Gladiator. That's about 18mbps average bitrate and it really has awesome image quality. Pero maski yung 24GB na BD ISO with 13mbps is very high quality na rin despite the compression. Make sure it's the Remastered edition - yung maitim na maitim yung mga itim na damit...hehehe

i used coaxial cable for audio and set the med to SPDIF PASSTHROUGH. I always thought coaxila cable sounds fuller than hdmi thus the shift. When i tried browsing through the files an annoying sound came out, yung parang tunog ng may grounded na cable na ayaw mawala but when you paly the movie wala ng grounded sound, when you revert back to the file list meron na naman I was thinking baka yung cable lang so i shifted back to hdmi, unfortunately meron pa din, it happenned too before but when i pulled out the hdmi and returned it again, nawala na yung grounded sound. this time kahit ano gawin kung tinker ayaw mawala.

Having slight problem with the new external HDD. my mede8er reads the files in the new Samsung HDD via File Manager. i can also copy the files from the new external HDD to my internal HDD. Pero when i try to play the files from my external HDD via the Media Library, hindi mabasa yun external Samsung HDD. pero sa laptop mg wifey ko, ok naman yun external HDD. I also tried renaming the external HDD on the laptop. Ayaw pa din. :(
I have an older WD external HDD pero it runs smoothly naman with the mede8er.
Try mo reformat with smaller clusters master. I've seen that happen with other players.

i still have the problem persisting, the weird grounded sound when you open the playlist as soon as you play the particular file, the weird sound dissappear but when you stop it, it goes back and wont stop. First time i had this, i just removed the HDMI cable from the back of the NMT, install it back and the wierd sound dissapear. i tired using coaxila cable for audio, did the setting accordingly and that grounded sound appeared again. tried using back the HDMI but the sound is still there. i tired using different input from the receiver and the soudn dissapeared again, the following day, the weird sound was there again so changed input again, the grounded sound was there again. by the way, i tried all the inputs using the pioneer dvd player and everything sounds OK
need help on this fellow med users.

O0hi guys got the mede8ter for my 37ld460 today and movie marathon agad hehe 7hrs straight no problem encountered using mede8ter, and walang problem sa akin. ako na sasagot since same kami unit ng tv which is 37ld460 and same media player and FW so far stable ang mede8ter sa akin and ganda ng service nito sa E Home 2 yrs warranty.
Just got the Mede8r 500X 5 minutes ago from sir DOM...Hope to give it a try tonight and tomorrow...

Yun 500x ko, kung HDMI lang ang gamit ko, walang audio. Naglagay pa ako ng digital connection. Unang version pa kasi yun sa akin. Wala pa yun sinasabing sticker. Pwede din ang RCA. Kaso i dunno kung magiging maayos ang decoding niya.

Tried the volume control sa remote. Using it for music listening. Pero sa DTS and DD, hindi gumagana yun volume control sa remote. Naka passthrough na ata ako pero check ko.
It's your receiver that does not do HDMI Audio, plus your TV does not accept DTS. Kaya walang sound pag HDMI lang.

yup, i tried adjusting them in dts and dd but its irrelevant since kahit 1 or 31 same lang sila. Hmm quite strange ??? for no volume unless i think the amp set up was asked to pick up the opitical signal only and might need to be set to hdmi, i use to run my system like yours until i got an hdmi auto splitter.. :P

Front
The only button you will see on the 300X is the power button. Every other buttons found on the 500X has been taken out. :(
Back
At the back, there is component video out, composite video, analog left & right audio, HDMI, optical and coaxial audio out. I can't remember if there is a LAN port and option on attaching a wifi adapter for wireless networking...I will check to verify. You can also find the cooling fan here.
Internal Storage
You can attach an internal 3.5" HDD inside, upto 2TB capacity.
External Storage
Same as the 500X, there is an SD card reader, 1 slave USB port (for attaching the Mede8er to your PC for management and transfer of files in your internal HDD) and 2 USB slots for your external HDDs.
Remote
The remote is slightly smaller than the remote supplied in the 500X. The only "BIG" difference I see is the "SEARCH" button on the remote...very helpful in finding movie files. :)
GUI
The Gui is still the same quality as the 500X, but better now, with the new "search" function, it is easier for find the film you want to watch, without having to scroll on the list. 8)
Loading time is impressive. I am coming from an EGreat NMT player, and the Mede8er is FAST! :o
Another neat feature is the "preview" window on the movie file. As you press ENTER on the movie folder you wish to watch, there is a small screen to the left, which will show the preview of the film. Kinda like a picture in a picture effect on an LCD. ;)
Image Quality
IQ is okay. I am not sure if it is just me, but it seem like my EGreat still has the better PQ as compared to the 300X.
Playability
I hooked up my external hard drives to this baby, and it played every single file, except for one file - The Incredible Hulk 1080p DTS MA. This is the largest file I have and it won't play on the 300X for some reason. >:(

Out of the box, the 300X offers the following:

However, I feel that even with all these, the EGreat still sounded better. :P It could be my setting, but it is something that I still have to play around with.
Conclusion
The 300X's function is to be what it is...an NMT player! Networking capabilities present on the 500X has been eliminated from the 300X...or now just an option.
Like Doc Mel, this is just my initial review. As for the inconsistencies that I may have found, I still have to check if my settings are properly done, as I just connected everything and fired on.
However, out of the box, I feel that the only real advantage of the 300X vs my Egreat is the loading speed. As for video and audio quality, I still prefer the Egreat...but that's just me. ;)

that maybe due to header compression, my hdpro cant handle movies with header compression as well.

Meron si Ehome and DOM. 500x has network capabilities. 300x wala.
Initially, I had some problems with its file system since my external drive is Mac-formatted , our artist is the one who formatted the disk as NTFS. I'm now having problem seeing the External HDD i my Mede8er. But I can access the External Seagate 1TB on my Windows XP running on VMWare on Macbook Pro.
What do I need to do? i'm currently on FW 3.04.

I suppose you played a full BD Structure (or was it BD ISO?) containing HD audio. If it was a full BD structure, did you play by selecting the specific m2ts streams within the folder (mala explorer mode),or, did you simply click on the BD filename and the BD movie played already?

sa tingin ko mas mabilis ang power-up ng 500x over-all. the 300x will show the mede8er screen faster (almost immediately after turning it on) but would take longer to search for the HDD connected to it. Although compared sa Egreat malayo talaga ;D

Alan, was able to play and output DTS MA / Dolby TrueHD using Mede8er 300x. Used the BD Rips I got from you ;D However, parang I like the sound and video of Egreat (i might be one na masuwerte that did not experience problem in playing BD Rips sa Egreat using Esata connection) more than Mede8er 300x. Although mas maganda yung black level nung Mede8er 300x but seems a little grainy. Maybe it is just the adjustment na hindi ko pa na discover. Noticed kasi during boot na ang baba ng resolution nung Mede8er but eventually tataas up to 1080i. Wala din masyado choices sa video set-up if i remember right will only give you 3 choices which i ended up choosing HDMI Auto. Have not used the search function although nawala yung puwede ka input ng number/time to go to a particular movie scene na mayron sa 500x :(
Mayron pala ito thumbnail view option which is not present sa 500x ;D I like the 500x more than the 300x ;D Kaya lang binili nung brother in law ko yung 500x ;D
I will have to agree with Von here. As seen on my initial review on the 300X found above, my conclusion states that the PQ and SQ of the Egreat is better. I thought that it was just me, but now that Von thinks the same thing, then I my obsevation was correct.
If you check my thread in the gallery, though I have the 300X, I still did not replace the Egreat mainly for this 2 reasons. The only disadvantage of the Egreat is it's very slow loading time. :(

You know what's strange right now, even though my AVR is totally 20th century, I actually can detect some sound signature difference when the file contains DTS and when the file has DTS-HDMA. Parang manipis ang bass kung HD audio. I thought, WoW, mala pure Hi-Fi sound pala ang dating - meaning matinis and maraming details ang tunog imbes na makalabog. Hehehe.
I almost sold mine as well, but when I saw the difference in PQ and SQ between the 2, I decided not to sell it. By the way, I won the 300X in the last Pdvd X'mas party, that's why I was able to compare both. ;D

Why wait for the 200X sir...? The 500X and 300X can also play flac upto 24bit/192Khz audio files... :) I already tried this with my 300X, moreover, even with my Egreat. Most NMT players do play flac audio files. ;)

I have observed a very unusual behaviour ng med 500x ko.
When I power up my unit from standby na off pa ang display ko, pag power on ko ng x20 ko, red ang font at graphics ng med tapos misaligned sa screen. Pag on naman ang display ko and then I power up my med, wala namang problema at as is lahat. I'll try to post some pics for this. Naguguluhan lang ako, I posted this to see if may ibang med owners experiencing this "phenomenon" ;D.

what might look good to some might not look good to others ;) personally i find lang the PQ of Egreat sharper compared to my Mede8er 300x but not necessarily saying that the PQ of the 300x is not good. i am not sure if because of the HDMI auto setting of 300x that some scene tends to be softer. Probably also this depends on how good the file encode is. So depends on the bitrate of the downloaded movie at a particular time then 300x adjust accordingly. With Egreat kasi you can select specific video setting. Try watching DVD/BD and try monitoring the bitrate and you will notice significant flactuations. Again, this is just my personal opinion. Watched The Last Airbender last night and SQ is great while PQ is above average ;D

Or your can simply try some 1080p mkvs that the Egreat would hardly be able to play. Maganda nga yung image but unreliable naman ang playback, what would you do?

Recently, there was a 1080p DTS-MA version of the Incredible Hulk. The file is BIG. I downloaded it, even if I had the version that I had and played it on the 300X. Believe it or not, the file did not play at all. However, it played on the Egreat! :o
I have heard of a lot of big 1080p files having problems with playback on the Egreat. I guess I am just lucky for owning a unit that has never given me problems since day one. I have yet to experience a file that will not play properly on my Egreat. :)
pareho tayo brader Martin wala pa din ako naging problem sa playback sa Egreat ko (using Esata connection ako, don't really know if this matters) :) ang maganda lang sa Mede8er if you have files na sunod-sunod it can play it one after the other, sa Egreat you have to press play everytime you want to go to the next file ;D
also pala when i tried to forward/go to a large file sa Mede8er mayron din lag time similar to Egreat. the video is playing na then hahabol pa lang ang audio. yun nga lang sa Mede8er puwede ka to specific time ng file while sa Egreat it is a hit and miss to go exactly to the point where you want to go :)

One time, as was hanging out at Ehome...Richie played a series of movie trailers and it played one trailer after another without hving to play the next file. Richie said there is a way to set it, so the files will play one after the other, but I never got around to knowing how to. ;D

The Realtek chipset players that I've encountered do play at 96kHz/24-bit FLACs (at the least), but they internally downsample to 48kHz/24-bit (negating the benefits of the higher res format). The same is true with the Logitech Squeezebox.
Almost got the MED300X, but learned that it does not do GAPLESS. Limitations of the Realtek chip as I gathered from the forums.
What exactly is GAPLESS? And the Sigma chip does?
Here are my observations:
The 300X plays both files, but only in stereo mode. However, with the Egreat, the DTS MA demo files plays with 5.1 DTS audio surround sound as seen on the receiver, while the DD TruHD demo files has picture present but no sound at all.
I know that the reason there is no sound on the DD TruHD files when the Egreat is used is due to my receiver which does not support DD TruHD. My question is, why does the DTS MA demo files play 5.1 on the Egreat and not on the 300X, even if my receiver does not support DTS MA? ???
What f/w version are you using on the MED300X? When you play on both players, can you please press the info button and post the audio format displayed by both players?

don't know how to try this eh, so can't really tell if kaya ng Med300x. choose ko lang yung first file ng BD then press enter and wala lumalabas na BD Menu. if you can tell me which file to press then will give you feedback. you know naman which BD rips i have :)

With the A200, I simply press the BD folder and kung meron menu, it just comes out as pictured (Leona Lewis' 2010 concert at the O2). Pero there are some pure BD rips na maski sa A200 won't be able to display the menus and special features even though those are all accessible and fully functional through the PC. In that case, derecho nalang sa main feature and if I want to scan through the contents, I simply use time-seek. Pero yung meron menus through the A200, even during playback, I just press the Menu button of the A200 remote then babalik sa Main Menu so I can select the scenes or the tracks, whichever the case may be. I think I should let you try some pure BD rips with menus on your 300X sa February before you decide on the Popcorn ;) but yeah, I really like the way Popcorn handles pure BD rips. ;)
Depending on your HDD model, the HDD may "nap" if you leave it idle for a while (as in toilet break). Kaya when you resume watching, there might be some lagging initially because the HDD would still be trying to fully wake up. ;D
( Will bring my 300x sa province this weekend to test and compare the PQ of 300x vs 500x ;) The audio side is another story ;D
ganyan din sa akin, most of the files na play ko shows 6channel sound ??? but not on the receiver. although have tried playing a BD rip 40GB file and my receiver showed the correct Audio Display.

From reading the line "DTS MA Passthrough to Core 5.1", it sounds like DTS MA will be downmixed to 5.1.

I think someone should report this in the official Mede8er forums. Audio was detected correctly. Output is wrong. Since the model is new, probably need to fix some more things on the firmware. Will just need some time to fix probably. :)
Hi, what AVR are you using? what type of files would only output stereo for HD audio?
I am using Onkyo AVR which is capable of decoding latest audio codecs. I think it is not a question of what type of file but rather how it is encoded. I might be wrong ;)
And all of your full BD rips will bitstream the HD audio in full 5.1 or 7.1 surround correct?

So the amp does support normal Dolby 5.1 and DTS 5.1. Your issue is that the MED300X is not downmixing the True HD 5.1 to Core Dolby 5.1 or DTSMA 5.1 to Core DTS 5.1. We need to investigate this and get more information from Realtek. I personally think that this may be due to the fact that the licence has not yet been approved by Dolby / DTS to passthrough to Core5.1 -- I will confirm asap.

Hi Von. The A200 behaves the same way and I actually love the convenience. I can switch between the stereo TV speakers and the HT speakers without changing any settings or pausing the playback as the sound output is simultaneously. It's simply a matter of muting the TV sound. I like that because during late night, I don't have to turn-on the amp at all and my TV's built-in speaker system is decent, hence no concern about possible neighbor and sleeping relatives' outrage - hehehe. Don't you find that audio feature nice?

Just got my MED500X this evening. Haven't watched much yet but with the limited time that I did it seems that my LG BD550 has a better picture quality when playing movies from my external hard drive (but it's very choosy and won't play a few files). The picture quality seems slightly softer with the Mede8er.

It turns out that the files that refused to play in my LG BD550 also don't play in the Mede8er. So I guess it's not that choosy after all. Maybe these files have that "header compression" thing.

with 300x the difference between pure BD rips and original BD is night and day :( hope it is just the settings but really even my wife who does not really care much about the PQ and AQ noticed it :(
viewed HP6 and GI Joe BD rips which I got from you, yung opening ng HP6 nawala/nabawasan yung low freq and the surround effect. during the bridge scene ang tingin ko para lang ako ng watch ng HBO :( The same is true with GI Joe during the first encounter scene para lang ulit ako nag watch sa HBO :( well I might be exageratting but probably I just expect a lot more. With Egreat kasi I am satisfied na with watching just the BD rip and keep the BD counterpart sealed, but if I will keep this Med300x baka mabukas ko lahat ng BDs ko :(
one thing sure is it is really capable audio passthrough because I can see Dolby TrueHd and DTS Master Audio sa receiver ko. I can see it but I can not hear it :(
watched Shakira not BD rip but felt AQ is still lacking lalo na yung Jim Brickman parang mono lang ang sound. Ganda sana dapat ng piano and violin but really so frustrated because of the AQ.
upgrade mo yung Med300x to Med500x or keep your Egreat ;) tried tweaking the settings pero ganun pa din :( i feel software problem ito and will be corrected by a firmware update in the future. Well the reason why I got this model is because of the audio passthrough and cant wait for the firmware update for Med500x. I surely might not have the patience to wait for this if ever I am right with my assessment na software problem lang ito.
Again, let me please clariffy to the other members who might be reading this post. Hindi po ako guru and personal opinion ko lang po ito ;) i have spoken with one member dito sa forum and he did not notice any dip in PQ and AQ sa Med300x niya. This person I am sure is a lot more capable of doing a review with this particular model. So please audition ninyo muna. May maganda setting din pala dito sa Med300x you can view either Thumbnail, Preview or List sa Med500x wala nito ;D
May kausap na ako sa 15th of this month hopefully at that time naka Med500x na ako. If this deal does not materialize malamang na A-200 ang kapalit. Otherwise di na lang ako muna manood using NMT ;D
Hi, when you say pure BD rips ito yun mga 30-40+GB in size and in BDMV folders right? So when playing this pure BD rips using the Med300x malayo ang difference compared to original Bluray disc played on your Bluray player. Ano pala gamit mong bluray player?

yup mga 40GB ang file size very similar to the BD disc ;) Using Panasonic BD 60 :) Again I am not saying with definitiveness na software problem ang cause ng concern ko (personal assumption ko lang ito). I have tried the Med500x before and hindi naman ako na disappoint ng ganito. If you connect the unit direct to an LCD/Plasma TV 32 inch you might not experience my concern :)

if hindi matuloy ang transaction on the 15th then probably i have to keep the 300x and save for A-200. if that happens puwede ko pahiram sa iyo for several months ;D hopefully tenga ko may problem ;) (baka try ko din in using a different HDMI cable if this would matter) by the way ang clincher talaga is when i played Ben (25th anniversary MJ) well iba yung nadinig ko promise, good but not as good as when using Egreat. iba yung bata na yun na kumunta nung Ben excellent performance. yung volume nga have to increase na eh (full volume sa NMT and notch higher sa AVR) still iba pa din ??? the PQ is not as vibrant when i was watching it using Egreat don't know if yung PJ ko problem but my PJ has less than 400hrs bulb usage.

Right of the bat, images seems to be less sharp, a bit on the blurry side .... had the oppurtunity to use a MED500X a few months ago, however I did not see too big a difference between it's PQ and that of POPCORN HOUR.

So OK na ba talaga ang HD audio on DD+ 500x with this new stable FW?
The file would have to be in BD ISO format to test this right?
BD ISO, BD Structures, MKV - basta the audiostream is HD Audio.
None of my MKV's make my amp's HD indicator light up unlike my Blu-Ray of course.
Will upgrade and check out video wall, parang NMJ feature ni popcorn yan, good if you have static disk collection.
Sa NMJ kasi, its based on filename ang search nya, regardless of your folder container name nya so medjo takes a while to rename all files (but nothing a rename script cant do for you).
I hope sensitive si 500x to sense the folder name para mabilis yung fetch nya for the video wall...
Took me two days processing my video wall. I make a folder for each movie pa (without folder) and search thumbnail jpeg photo online and resize it to the suggested 156x223. Once done, mabilis naman nakuha ng videowall.
FYI NMJ does support NFO files....

NMJ can and WILL be able to get the data from imdb.com
The only time it fails is if you manually look at the NFO file and it's filled with useless ASCII art in the header, I just strip it down to the basics or even just have the following line;
"http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0499549/"
This overrides the detection algorithm in NMJ and just uses the URL as the definitive name of the content.
The nice thing about NMJ is it's easy to test. I just put the above filenames (simple text file) on a USB stick and create a database on it. On my system, I keep 2 separate drives for NMJ to test;
1 drive is properly named according to NMJ standards
1 drive is named according to the source they arrived in (torrents)
The torrent sourced drive never failed in NMJ as long as I keep the NFO accompanying the weird named mkv files.

Inisa isa ko, newbie in setting up a video wall, I have failed several times in my popcorn also sa YAMJ. Previous firmware nitong Med, di ko rin nagawa. pero nung magupdate ako, ok na. Thankful that i still have a handlful only of content, pag madami na, medyo tedious mag set-up. Cheers!! ;)
Mas maganda sana kung mga 15 slections per pane, in this case max 12 lang, if you have hundreds of content, hirap mag browse.
That's very thoughtful and clever of Sanji isn't it? ;) Gives you a simpler (and probably more reliable) FW option in case you don't need/have HD audio.

Try mo to play those stuff with Header Removal Compression. It should be OK now

I dont think so. Header Removal Compression would make an mkv either playable or unplayable only. Nothing in between.
Gargling sound could either be caused by bad encoding, or the media player getting choked by the bitrates (as in the case of high-bit BD structures or BD ISO, or even perhaps some issues between the player and the AVR - I think.
Hey guys. Just updated mine from 3.4 to 4. Problem is my unit can't seem to identify my usb external drive. But it detects a usb plugged in. Can't seem to understand because this was running perfectly on the previous version. Can someone help me please?
What's your external drive? I had my new external 2TB in a thermaltake Max 5G(usb 3) enclosure working perfectly with Med. Yung external na ito, di makita ng laptop ko naman ???

My wife tried playing some pure BD concerts via the Mede8er 500X today and she can't bring out the Main Menu as the A200 does.
Anyone tried a pure BD concert with fully functional Main Menu using the latest FW Ver 4.0?
I hate to be the bearer of bad news but you won't see menu in full BD. MED500X only has BD Lite function which means no Blu-ray menus.
To force flash, disconnect the adapter or power down the AC adapter. Insert the USB drive you used earlier and disconnect any other hard drive connected to the mainboard. While powered down, press the power switch and reconnect the AC adapter jack while still continuously pressing the power switch. Release after a few seconds.. The same firmware flashing sequence should happen. The MED should reboot on its own and return to the older firmware version.
When you say disconnecting the "other hard drive connected to the mainboard" are you referring to external hard drives lang or pati yung internal hard drive kelangan din tanggalin?

motion55 is correct. your unit is still ok. just need to revert back to V3.0.4, update to V4 Beta 5 then update again to V4. This is the safest and simplest way to update to V4 right now. anyway, nothing to worry about. just a few days that you'll miss your unit :)
may lag sa True-HD, nag lit up nga sa receiver ko lag naman.. :P
no problem encountered sa DTS-HD Master ganda. :)

Question on v4 HDD Formatting...
Is it Normal that after i formatted my Hard Disk using my mede8er, my hard disk is still in NTFS format? on v3.04 kasi, the drive was named "mede8er (C:)" or something like that...? now it displayed only the drive letter...
I already got back my broken MED500X. It's already fixed and upgraded to V4. My receiver still displays the regular DTS and Dolby, hindi pa din HD audio. I use HDMI cable for audio and video output. My receiver is Denon1311 which is capable of HD audio (I already tested in blu-ray movies using PS3) I press the audio button in the remote control to check yung mga available sound formats. There's no HD audio sound format. Does this mean that the movie file I'm playing is not in HD audio or there's something wrong with my audio setting (set at HDMI passthrough muti-channel). The movie files I played are 1080p na may nakalagay na BRD with file size of 10GB to 18GB. Do those kind of movie files have HD audio? What's indicated in their file name is just either its DTS or dolby. I have not seen those BD ISO movie files so I don't know if it should be stated in the file name that it is either DTS-HD Master or dolby true-hd. By the way, what's the video wall for? Thanks.

It should be NTFS format, yes. As for it having just the drive letter instead of name, I think that's normal for V4.
I noticed that the subtitle in my V4 MED500X is not anymore occupying a lot of space in the TV screen, which is actually more pleasing to see, unlike my older firmware. Is it beacuse of the new firmware version or is it because of the settings? If it's beacuse of the settings, how can I adjust the size of the subtitles so it will not occupy a lot of space in the TV screen for my V3.0.4 MED500X? Thanks.

It can output HD audio with the latest firmware. I have both internal and external hard drive. Yup, i tried Shizzls(author) first modification of the official V4 firmware, ok naman. I'm trying this again. ;) I can always revert back to official F/W in case me problema. So far the first, wala naman.

I downloaded a movie called "Bruce Lee My Brother". It's in Chinese and it seems that there is no English audio available with this movie. I downloaded English SRT file and renamed it exactly like the file name of the MKV but I can't get any subtitles to display. Any thoughts?

Just had my mede8er fixed at ehome where i bought mine. Nasira yun upper usb port. Di nakakabasa. It's good to know mede8er has a 2 year warranty. Great service. I like the new GUI compared to the old one. Now i can lock my special files. ;D

Some files, especially from phone cams, are not supported. Dunno the file extension tho.

So far the ones that did not play well are Mythbusters Season 1 and a lot of National Geographic Documentaries. >:(
Spent a few nights with my old Mede8er 500x with the FW updated to the latest one. To summarize, this player is indeed very much matured in terms of FW, totally stable, totally reliable and totally flexible. And in terms of speed, my PCH cant match especially in terms of playback and stoppage of pure BD rips.
I personally think this is the right thing in terms of development, that is, make the FW fully matured first to get rid of the hiccups here and there instead of primarily changing UIs or coming out with new models so soon and leaving the old models hoping for continued FW updates and support. I happen to make some test with another seemingly popular model that for whatever reason seems to hang a few titles and would need to be rebooted to make the same files playable. Im talking of very high quality files that play flawlessly on the PC, the PCH and of course the Mede8er. Well I hope that brand actually and finally knows how to update their FW this time.
But again as for the Mede8er with the latest FW, it is impressive even without BD Java capability. I was thinking of selling mine after having gotten another PCH but the Mede8er is simply too good to let go and certainly still lives up to its long time reputation as one of the best players in the market, with one of the better FW development teams.

Mga sir’s question, I copied mkv files in my macbook and plan to transfer it via usb cable directly to my Mede8er. Apparently it wont copy or transfer from macbook to mede8er? But from Mede8er to macbook I can copy or transfer files. Is this normal? Or hindi lng compatible macbook to mede8er?

So just try to find the matching HDChina external SRT for that movie sa Subscene or Subtitlesorg. Meron for sure - pinadala ko na sa asawa ko...hehehe

I think it might be vobsub inside the MKV, ganyan din sa realtek ko it will detect meron English subtitle pero walang lumalabas pero pag extracted na yun vobsub it will display na. Like you said the easiest way pa rin is to just download the srt version.
Thats PGS for sure. I have the same file but titled A-Men..hehe. But HDChina is considerate so they converted that graphic PGS to text SRT and uploaded separately. Mahirap pala gumawa ng SRT kaya tinatamad yung ibang encoding groups.
Hindi ko napansin that you were talking about a new release pala. Next na paguusapan yun mga S Wars by CHD kung meron subtitle problems din.
CHD's external SRTS are very good and easy to find. I really don't get why that particular group wouldn't simply hard sub for everyone's convenience.
CHD subs work well with any NMT and synch perfectly even with Framestors and Kralimarkos - those badass Remuxes with PGS subs only.

i have several movies that plays only the audio but not the video, but from where i got these files, its plays well though he is using a different NMT.

Sir Tirso, header compression lang yan just remux the file using mkvmerge and for both the video and audio track choose no compression sa extra options tab. Hope this helps.

The more convenient solution is to update the FW to the latest Ver. 4.0.xxx.. That FW has already rectified header compresssion issues - I verified this during my vacation in Manila early this month after updating my Mede8er. Oks na oks na.

Hi Sir Clondalkin, what's the exact version ng firmware ito, is it the 4.0.4 ba? matagal-tagal na din walang upgrade ang med500x ko, it's time na siguro, hehehe wala pa din ako video wall... ;)
Forgot the exact number but it's 4.0.4 nga yata. It's clearly identified sa Mede8er site, that is, the Latest Stable FW. Yung meron choice na HD-Audio and Non-HD Audio. Updating the FW is so easy, but yeah, make sure walang power interruption during the update process. Steps are also described in the Mede8er site.
Aside from the workaround on header compression, performance especially of full BD rips became more stable after the update - no hanging whatsoever and talagang mabilis compared to the PCH-A210. I dont do Video Wall kahit meron.
Patulong naman mga Sirs, everytime kasi mag play ako ng MP3 thru my MED500x to my Onkyo 507 there is 1-2 sec delay/lag sa start ng playback. :(what connection are you using?hdmi?
Already updated my firmware to 4.xxxxx, and nabasa ko sa mede8er forum na it's a chipset issue between realtek and onkyo amps regarding synchronizing data.

ok,thanks.i napagana ko na sya sa internal hdd.later ko na lang i configure yung sa external hdd.another question,by genre kasi ako kung mag run ng y2m,everytime i run another files or folders nadedetect pa din nya yung mga previous files ko.although parang check lang ang ginagawa nya sa older files time consuming pa din.is there a way para ma bypass nya yung mga previous files?thanks
guys sinubukan kong lagyan ng subtitle yung shutter island movie pero wala pa ring lumalabas na subtitle when i play the movie.i downloaded the subtitle sa subscene.com w/c is in srt file.tapos nilagay ko sya dun sa same folder ng movie.any suggestion?thanks

Malaki ba ang difference ng 500x2 sa 500xl? I already have an external hdd na may movies, I am still undecided kung yung 200,300, or 500 yung kukunin ko.
Hi! mga sir ask ko lang kung pwede bang gamitan ng 2.5" (Laptop HD) yung Mede8er 300x ko, i mean imbis na i.connect ko externally eh sa loob ko ilalagay, hinde ba masisira yung HD? kasi diba iba ata power requirements nung 2.5" sa 3.5"

7) Fixed - Go to Media Library, select any folder, ex. with movies. Set View Type to Movie (8x2 thumbs). Press HOME, switch to Photo Search. View Type is not updated, and you see photos in Movie-Type style, so 8x2 thumbs instead of 4x2. As mentioned before, change of view type for Music/Photo/Video Search modes is not possible, and normally player adjust it automatically when user switch search mode.
Fixed -- Open Photo Search, switch to Photo Directory mode, explore press HOME,Switch to Media Library, open any folder, ex. With movies (from HDD), you will not see movies. Photo filter

I know you have been using Med8er 500x...I tried updating the FW to the latest (V4) version available since mine is still the March 2010 version...Followed all the steps to the dot...installation as indicated on the screen was successful -- BUT -- after re-booting/re-starting the unit, after I turn it on, I am stuck w/ the Med8er logo...NAG-HANG!...
Help me naman, friends...

Namatay si Mede8r 500X ko now lang.... I was just watching battleship then all of a sudden BOOM blank screen....ayaw na mag bukas si Mede8er minsan merong RED na led then minsan wala. Pero ayaw na talaga magboot at lumabas ang BLUE na led....Any advice mga sir's your inputs are highly appreciated. Thanks
It's hard to hear, but my guess is it's probably the main board. Question is, is it still in warranty? Also, when you say BOOM, did you mean there was an explosion or was that just an expression? With the weather lately, it's also probable that there was a power fluctuation that killed your player.

I was in eHome yesterday and they claimed compatibility to 3TB.
I haven't because we just use USB na lang to transfer files. Never had any reason na din to upgrade the capacity of the HDD because mabilis na naman mag-"source" ng movies to play.for external USB whats the biggest you ve tried 5tb seems to be a problem for this model. adding a player kasi for my mom's place

Try splitting your 4TB to 2 2TB partitions. Baka mabasa.yan next plan ko , hinayang lang ako mag reformat hehehe sayang copy
Im just using the 400x2s and have no issues with remux files.no video/sound stutter. Not sure though with full bd files.
Hi to 500x owners. Do you all have problems playing big bd files? Mga remux or full bd file? Kasi i experienced before na yun sound cutting off. Putol putol ang sound. I have to test it again. Basta problem ko talaga yun big files.do you play it from usb or from sata? disk speed plays a difference

Di tumutuloy mag boot up. Humihinto lang sa opening logo tapos mag restart ulit paulit ulit lang. Baka firmware? Pa repair ko sana para magamit pa. Tia.
