yup, that's another possibility... on marantz receivers its called Night Mode.  when its turned on, loud passages become... well, not loud, as if the receiver is turning down the volume for you automatically.

so there may be 2 reasons your sr6300 isn't playing loud:

ATT mode - cuts down the volume in half

NIGHT mode - cuts down the volume of loud passages

I checked these settings and neither is turned on

I went back to the store and everything is fine naman when they checked the avr with the same kind of speakers, volume is loud and ok.  When I got back home, I just connected the avr (w/o touching the settings) but still no good  :P.  I tried different connectors optical, rca coax and tested the unit on diff audio source (dvd, xbox, tv) but evrythin is still the same.

I guess I'm stuck up  :P, hope that someone can help me out.

medyo OT but i would like to share this:

sinamahan ko friend ko sa one of the audio stores sa manila to buy a Mission M72 last february. before the demo, I told the salesman to connect only the M72 sa AVR and nothing else.

During the demo, we were surprised na napakaganda ng bass niya. I was impressed and thought that the m72 belie it size. With this, I tried to play a BASS CD and noticed that some other speakers are connected and sumasabay sa tunog ng m72. we found out that a big sub is also sounding together with the m72.

Anyway, my friend bought it.

My advise to you fellow members, during the demo make sure no "magical things" are happening at the store.

have you checked the speaker cables? usually hihina ang volume, especially yung bass, pag nagkabaligtad yung termination.

pwede mo rin na macheck using DVD w/ THX optimizer kung may out of phase na speaker pair.

Better yet bring the speakers with the receiver and your speaker wires and interconnects on where you bought them and have them installed at the shop then you will know what is wrong.  Hassle lang but then you'll know what is wrong.

This is indeed the best thing to do, but the problem is I bought the speakers and avr on a different store so of course dun sa store wer I purchased the receiver will blame the speakers or cables or vice versa

i've experienced this before... one of my front speakers was out of phase because i reversed the + and - wire.  it just sounded "wrong" or "bitin", with lost dynamics.  maybe it was cancelling the sound of the other speaker?

could also be the player... i saw this in the Sources forum.  phase inversion in the player itself is a possibility.

I recently got this cd player to replace my Samsung dvd player as a music source. It sounded ok when I auditioned it at AV Surfer with a NAD T741 receiver and Definitive Technology speakers certainly better than the Sony DVD player that they had hooked up. However, when I brought it home and hooked it up to a NAD C320BEE and Wharfedale Diamond 8.1s music exhibited harshness and some tracks that sounded quite good on my dvd player were now difficult to listen to. I searched the web and came across a suggestion in audioreview.com to invert my speaker connections as the player could exhibit phase inversion. Tried it and viola! full bodied sound with focused mid-range and tight bass.

Can somebody please explain why this (phase inversion by the source) could happen? Will the remedy lead to shortening my amp's or speakers lives?

I'll try switchin the cables and see what will happen

I've tried to increase the speaker level and indeed the loudness increased  Mas malakas na siya pero hindi pa din kasing ganda ng sa setup kay Sonny T.

I'm using Marantz 6300, Mission m73i (Front and Center), Yamaha NS45 for surround and surround center(from my old setup).  I'm also using Optical Cable from DVD to AVR.

What's the ideal speaker level setup ba?  Some say it's +3 pero ako I had to set to +10.

By the way, I'm more particular sa Front Left and Right pag nakikinig.  So what I meant by mahina is mahina ang Front Left and Right.

I'm beginning to believe that it's the room acoustics that's causing the volume to sound soft.  The room is 3 X 4 Meters.

Thanks!

Do you have new speakers? Baka it needs some break-in because my velodyne was weak initially but became loud after some hours of use. The speakers at the store might be running for some time that is why its louder. just my 1 cent.

hindi ba nakakapagtaka pag sa store malakas pero pag sa bahay mahina na  ::) (using same kind of speakers)

Yun room ko half size lang ng demo room so it should sound louder pero grabe ang hina.  Yun settings mo na +10 lahat ng individual speakervolume is todo na yun, nung binalik ko yun 6300 sa store the speaker level is just +6 (pero malaks na, as in).
One more thing is  yun mga marantz 4300 users di sila umaabot ng ganun so something's not right  :-\

try mo nalang dalhin sa store na pinag bilhan mo para sigurado ka talaga (setting talaga or meron magic). the better kung madadala mo yung speaker and cables. 100% makikita mo yung problem.

alam ko sa electronics equiment pwede mong papalitan ng other brand within one week kung nde ka satisfied.

gutierrez,

levi might be right, the speakers might need to be broken in. i noticed that when my friend bought his new m72i's, they weren't as powerful nor as great sounding as they are today. but from your description, it seems that the sound is way weaker from what you would expect so it may still not be the answer to your problem.

have you tried other sources as they've suggested (fm radio, tv)? or maybe you can borrow a different set of speaker cables so that at least you can isolate the problem.

anyway, if iceman is coming over to test his receiver and speakers with yours, i think then we'll finally know the answer to this riddle.

that's right bro, actually I'll go to akyat bundok's place later and test my receiver, dvd and cables on his ht.

hopefully I could isolate the problem na  :)

pare i may be wrong but i think the missing link in your setup is a subwoofer.  would be interesting to hear the speakers in your listening area, but your philips dvd player, sr6300 receiver & cables seem fine.

the loudness in a HT really comes from the sub.  even if you crank up the volume, its impossible to get the same effect with speakers.  even with 10" woofers my floorstanders still cannot recreate the full movie experience without a little help from a sub.  the sound loses its "bigness" when i turn off the sub, and i'm using a relatively small one at that.

maybe you can try listening to the store's demo setup with the sub turned off and compare the sound.

Do you mean m70i series ba?

anyway, malaking bagay yung sub lalo na sa movies. did u try it during audio playback also kung mahina pa rin bigay nyan?
