Enjoy. ;) ;D

When using dts in ffdshow audio , I encounter a synch problem with my player. I already uninstall the player and re-install it again but the same goes. What could be the problem? I'm using MPC HC. TIA

XBMC upscales better than my Pioneer DV600 (ayon sa aking paningin lamang, try nyo rin) just don't forget to set SD Upscaling (Settings>Video>Player: High Quality Software Scaling = Enabled; Upscaling Method = Bicubic)..

if your DVD ROM is a Liteon, it is very easy to make it region free;  all you have to do is look for the RPC1 firmware.

I remember downloading a particular firmware(I just cannot remember it's name now) from afterdawn, it's easy to find just goggle it.

Anyone familiar with Arcsoft's Total Media Theatre 3 (TMT3)?   Been watching some straight BD rips recently and I'd like to ask for tweaks to rectify jerky playback (if there are any).

Thanks!

My theory so far is that the high bitstream HD audio is too much of a burden on the PC's on-board sound circuit.    I think it would help a lot if the audio is simply passed through to an HD compliant AVR (which I dont have), or perhaps use a dedicated sooundcard that has efficient HD audio decoding (which I dont have either).  It has been an interesting experiment with pure BD rips though.

Update on playback of pure BD rips.

KMP + CoreAVC plays m2ts files SMOOTH as it can be,

BUT

My PC does not support HD audiostream - audio output is via SPDIF which seems to be limited to 1.5Mbs.    ACFilter is set to pass-through all soundstreams but it can't handle HD audiostreams.

So I can watch pure BD rips but with German, French, Spanish and some other European languages in AC3 5.1. sound.    ;D :( ;D :( ;D :(

At least this is hopeful because one part of the equation is already solved.   And the IQ is absolutely fantastic  Any suggestions on the HD soundstreams?

BTW, Total Theatre Media 3 can downmix HD soundstream to DTS, DD and even stereo.  Problem with TMT3 is jerky playback.

Thanks bro! Still tinkering with mediaportal.  The internal player with coreAVC isn't bad i.e. if you just want a straightforward installation without an external player.  You're right. It's better than XBMC and less CPU usage.   ;D

I just think the MOBO has a say on the playback of SD and moreso HD files.  This one has smoother playback on my old AMD X2 5000 proc using XBMC than my ASUS mobo.   ;)

Hi Nerveblocker.  How much is this new rig?  It looks very neat.

Im surprised you still havent configured KMP with Media Portal yet because VLC is very inefficient - although very very flexible in terms of playback capability.

Ive been thinking of building a really simple but very powerful HTPC and I kinda fancy the AMD Phenom II chips.  Grabe mura compared to Intel's i7.

Thanks!

@Clondalkin, probably under 15K  :) as far as i know, the ANF82HD-PRO is cheaper than the 780g, someone gave me feedback also that games are more playable with the on board nVidia GF8200.

@Nerveblocker, how much is the casing sir?

what's the difference between the following:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 - (low end?)
AMD Athlon II X2 - (mid?)
AMD Phenom II X2 - (high?)

Hi Nerveblocker.  How much is this new rig?  It looks very neat.

Here is the breakdown as far as I remember:

MoBo: EMAXX EMX-ANF82HD-PRO -                P2700
RAM: Geil 1GB x 2 DDR2 -                                P1800

Casing: Astone Flex casing w/ power supply - P1600
Processor: AMD X2 5000 -                              P2500
Optical Drive: Lite-on DVDRW -                       P1400
                                                                     __________

Sir, what do you mean by VLC as being inefficient?  VLC has been my main media player in Ubuntu and I am familiar with its control settings already that's why I paired it with Media Portal. It is also customizable with different skins you can experiment with. So far I'm happy with its performance.  ;)

I'll try to download KMP and install it with your special sauce.  I might like it better.  ;D

This probably goes to show my ignorance of the merits of Linux.

Anyhow, it is a common feedback among Windows users how much of a power hog VLC  is relative to other popular software players. VLC was actually the 1st player I tried when I first got hold of high def MKV in early 2007.  It was great of course (coming from DVD) but when I tried playing 1080p files, then it was all jerky and stuttery no matter what fix I tried.  So I tried KMP, MPC and GOM - all of which were able to handle 1080p contents smoothly using the same hardware - with seemingly better codecs - resulting to arguably better IQ and SQ.

Going back to Linux, Im truly amazed that VLC + Media Portal combination performs very well because if I were to imagine such set-up under Windows, that would be like putting a fruit basket on top of a hog.   Thus, Linux must be a remarkably efficient OS in the first place.   Too bad I cant live without Windows based applications.
