Wanna ask the experts, do all denon surplus cd players, especially those 20bit 8x oversampling have the burr brown DACs in them? I just bought a dcd-830, tried playing thru the analog and optical out to the Harman 3550, it seems the dacs of the HK sound better than that of the denon. Why is that? thanks for reading the post.

How much is Denon DCD-830? The last time I've checked is about Php 3.2K.. Looks good, I hope it will sound good.

It is 20bit & 8X oversampling

here's a link to various sony ES cd players.

you may use babelfish to translate from japanese to english.

based on the translation, the "staggered 4 D/A converter" could mean that since one philips chip contains 2 independent 16-bit DACS for L/R and the unit uses 2, then 2x2=4 ?? hehe just a hunch, we'll never know for sure.

sony ES is hi-end division and you can tell from its orig price of Y89,800 in 1987 thats about 45k by today's exchange rate.

Interesting feature.  The output of a D/A converter is analog.  So what's another pair of D/A converter that has been staggered doing?

They also have the dcd 810, with coax digital out, itong 830 is optical out and made in japan, yung 810 china, so ito kinuha ko, ok pa condition :P

came from the pier today, saw a lot of nice denons, saw one exactly like mine, dcd-830, optical out lang, pero japan made, ok pa naman so far, saw lots of dcd-1400, dual digital out, pero may balita ako na yung model na yan, pag umiinit, tatalon na. hope this helps

Optical out, same sya sa toslink optical out ng dvd players, sabi ng iba mas mataba tunog ng coax compared to optical.

Hello,
this may sound a bit extreme but, after reading through this thread, I'd like to ask what 8times oversampling 287th order digital filter full time linear 18bit combination 4D/A converter means???

The other entries i kinda got from reading the thread, but the entries in bold I don't quite get. Since I got this player a few days ago, I heared crackles (on the highs, especially voices, some instruments) on the CD copies which I didn't hear in my other players. Any help?? Thank you!

kaffee1, i dunno what those numbers mean, it could just be a marketing blurb to make it seem more advanced than other 8x oversampling cd players... what's the brand & model of the cd player you got?

i've tried a 1-bit MASH panasonic cd player and a 20-bit 8x denon cd player... both were entry level, but i think i liked the sound & features of the panasonic a little bit better, but the problem with it is mapili, can't read cdr's.

I opened my surplus Yamaha CD player last weekend, cleaned the lens with a cotton bud swabbed in isopropyl rubbing alcohol and applied motor oil (for tamiya racers  ;D) on the dual steel glide path of the lens assembly.  So far i have not had any instance of skipping.  And to think I was ready to dispose of this unit precisely for this reason.  Now I think it will last for another year ;D

HI,

If you've been able to read the threads like I did, try out the shop of Hyperaudio in Makati. Havent been there my self, just do a search or go to the Hyperaudio thread.

Hope that helps :)

RE "could it be because the laser pickup in the 80's aren't as forgiving as today's gear..." - - I noticed that of 80s CDPs, they do tend to be picky of CDRs. Or does that mean my CDPs need a tune up?

RE highs, I think (or maybe would like to think Ü) that the limitation of the CDR blanks did show, or perhaps even the burning process. Some copies I have, though very few, are not all on Kodak gold (the early releases, in which both sides are gold; the ones that initially gave out the 100yrs warranty). I do beleive that media has something to do with copy quality, though I think that deserves another thread :)

It is adviseable that CD-Rs are burned at 1x to 2x speed max to ensure that the pits are created properly.  This was the rule before.  Maybe there are now better Cd blanks and the writers have a more intense, focused or powerful beams to make 4x to 12x burned CD-Rs readable in many players.  I have experienced difficulty playing CD-Rs burned at 24x and 12x.  But the same player was able to track well on the same material and brand of CD-R burned at 4X.

Thanks...

Some universal remotes have codes for Sony CDPs that could work with yours.  My yamaha CDX1000 also had no remote.  The Sony universal I bought had a code for Yamaha CDPs and it worked.  But don't expect all the controls to be supported.  Only the major power, stop, pause, play, skip, ff and rew buttons can be remotely controled.  But that's good enough for me.

thanks sir av_phile, I got a universal remote from Raon last Sunday, cost was 220 pesos.  You were right sir, only the basic functions are available but that's good enough for me.

sir punk_kid, sa may Getz po, yung stall nila sa loob.  The label shows Sony Universal Remote for 7 different equipment.  I was also able to control my surplus Onkyo CD player with this one so I bought two!  ;D,  i bought the last one yesterday after testing it with Sony and Onkyo cd players, try mo sir baka may stocks na sila ulit.
It supports many brands unlike others that I saw, Onkyo was not in the list so I opted for this one.
