;D ika nga, it's a matter of taste ng indibidwal eh  ;D

same observation here, as i myself own a technics cdp, the 4dac 20 bit model.

lucky for me as well i was able to hear from a friend the panasonic mash, many amongst you now are saying here, and i confrim the observation that it is quite the opposite of the technics..... funny though as i thought technics is the precorsur of the now panasonic line.

i heard there is still one panasonic mash being sold at the pier! >:D

btw, the panasonic is the fastest cd reader i have ever encountered. bilis magbasa mga dre! ;D ;D ;D

Just an observation, the 1-bit MASH appeared on all Technics CDP models, from the cheapest to the most expensive, starting in 1991, based on Stereo Review buyers' guide. Technics is Matsucrapa's hi-fi brand worldwide and the Panasonic brand was used for some equipment distributed in the domestic and Southeast Asian markets.

among the CDP's in nelson's list, i was lucky enough to be able to use the panasonic & technics... the panasonic 1-bit MASH cdp was my first ever cdp which i used in the 90's, and the technics 18-bit 4DAC was borrowed from a friend.

these 2 CDP are opposites -- the panasonic excels in midrange body & musicality while the technics excels in detail & dynamics... being extremes might make them sensitive to speaker & amp matching, i think the panasonic will match with a lively/detailed setup while the technics might go well with a lush tube amp setup.

i'm currently using the technics with a EL34 tube amp and i can confirm narayan's observation that it does have a strong output signal, so much so that i prefer the sound without a preamp... even though i'm using only the passive attenuator in my amp, the sound is very detailed & dynamic... with a preamp in the signal chain the dynamic contrast can get a little tiresome, but without the preamp its just right so you kinda save money coz you don't need a preamp... the impression when listening to guitars and drums is that the musician was giving his all into the strumming and the hitting... very good CDP if you want to hear all the details.

Nice review sir.. so match yun technics sa STC mo sir di bili na hehehehe

field report lang mga bossing direct from Pier.

After reading all your posts in this thread, i decided to go to pier yesterday coz i need a separate CDP after my generic DVD player conked out playing audio CDs (lucky, it was still replaced at RAON). So, off i go to Pier (first time i went there). I only saw 3 stores selling surplus audio eqptmnts. I only went to the first bldg and i didnt go further (meron pa ba iba stores aside from the 1st bldg?). Anyway, i was really looking for Onkyo CDP to match my Onkyo AVR. I saw just one onkyo integra C-501XG. Still looks nice. Sabi ni manang (store owner), 2.2k daw. tawad ako 1.8k, ayaw.. 2k daw last price. I stroll some more and saw sa kabila a Sony 333ESD. Same price din, 2k last price. The 3rd store has only one CDP, a Kenwood.. looks ok though, last price is 1.8k. I went back to manang to haggle some more on the Onkyo. Ayaw talaga, 2k daw talga last price. So sabi ko i-test. It instantly and flawlessly played all CDs (CDRs, prated, orig) i brought with... bilis nya magread. So i hurriedly brought home this baby.

I plug it in to my AVR using analog out pero parang kulang yung sounds, it lacks depth at di masyadong buo. I then opted to use optical out to my AVR (my DVD's connected via digital coax) and use my AVRs DAC instead. Voila, sound's great, warm and clear. I listened to it play perfectly for hours. Now i know how good the sound is compared to playing audio cds with a DVD player (generic that is, dont know though how it would fare with branded ones). I just have one complain, it doesnt match my champagne silver AVR  :'(. I just can't find any info about it's specs on the web.

BTW, i also saw some denons, particularly the 1100. Some teacs, Kenwoods, technics and others.

Same observation with my Onkyos, hindi mapili and they sound better after a few minutes playing. It's better to audition CDPs at the pier using your own headphones, assuming you have dependable headphone units, so you won't be deceived by the amplifier-speaker setup used. That reduces your observation to how good the machine reads various CD types.

With all the posts I've read, owning a surplus cdp sounds like a good deal! ;)

Anong mga tips sa pag pili ng cdp.  Any models that I should look out for?  Lastly, (clincher question) pano nga ba pumunta dyan?  ;D

Salamat na marami!
