oh...I remember it na Jo. The layout poster looks like an imitation of THE BEDROOM WINDOW with of course Ma. isabel Lopez posing on the background.... ;D

This was screened at the now ghostly Manila Film Center right?

Curtis Hanson's The Bedroom Window was 1987; I think Hubo was made before Marcos fell...is that right, Jojo?

Noel how memorable Hubo sa Dilim......did it end all violent Pinoy flicks including BAGONG HARI? I think Tata Esteban's  ALAPAAP was commendable enough.

you're right Noel!  it was shown at the Manila Film Center. of course each movie that was shown at the MFC had to surpass each other. there were only two films that stood out during that time... Scorpio Nights & Boatman. the others were all mediocre.. Isla, Company of Women, Silip & Hubo Sa Dilim.

i didn't care much for Alapaap... i thought Tata Esteban's Salamangkero was  better. i couldn't say the same for Materyales Fuertes though...

i really can't recall the movie's poster... but of course when it came to shock value Hubo Sa Dilim really delivered.  ;D

I'd say Bagong Hari surpassed Hubo sa Dilim in violence. What do you think, Jojo?

i have to agree with you on this one Noel... Bagong Hari is even more violent than Batch '81.

Forget the Oscars okay?! It sounds that you dont like pinoy movies. No entry of film at the Oscars doesnt mean that our Pinoy films are bad. Being a film critic. You should watch and learn then criticize their works. That's what we film critics should understand. Some other countries appreciate our work. If we like foriegn language films. Other countries like are own too. Be open minded. Hirap na nga ang film industry sinisiraan pa natin.  Why don't you just watch, read and learn. BTW maybe filipino dvds does not have Audio Commentaries and Behind the scenes. Maybe thats why you dont like it.

Unfortunately rse....Bagong Hari is not available on any format....but there is still a surviving print available according to Noel.

Let's hope that SOFIA (Society of Film Archivist) will show it soon....

I hope we could watch it for free. CCP perhaps!!! I should call Sineklab for this.  :)

I saw Bagong Hari when it was shown in theaters in the 80s.  But all I can remember is the image of a knife buried in someone's thigh.  Or is that another Pinoy flick altogether?

I can't really comment on BAGONG HARI since I only saw the layout/poster on the leading dailies (Daily Express) when it first came out.

I'm adding BIYAYA NG LUPA (which my mom also wants to see), INIT, KONTROBERSYAL, WHITE SLAVERY all Lino Brocka flicks, BAD BANANAS SA PUTING TABING because I'm a Gallaga fan and TURUANG APOY.

Hopefully I'll be able to see them before Christmas time.... right JO.... ;)

If it was a razor blade, that would be it. I don't remember a knife in someone's thigh. Do you, Jo?

i don't remember a scene in Bagong Hari that involved a knife in someone's thigh... i've seen the movie at least six times.
