The problem with the HK unit, wala daw warranty dito.  So pag may problem, you have to take it all the way to HK to avail of the warranty.
Anything that you buy outside the country is not covered by warranty here. If you wait for Toyama to bring it in then its possible this item will be available i don't know when.

Hi to all.

Newbie here and this is actually my first post.

Currently, I'm here in Riyadh. May promo dito for Onkyo 605 and 705. The 605 is SAR2,240(Php26,880 @ 12 pesos per riyal) and 705 is SAR3,040 (Php36,480). Yung price difference nya is tama lang ba talaga if performance nung dalawa pag-uusapan?

I've read from several topics/posts that you should get the best that your budget can afford. Gusto ko na actually yung 705 pero I'm still thinking twice kasi mostly audio lang ako. Siguro 60% audio, 40%ht or even 70/30. What do you think? Baka naman kasi overkill na ako for that purpose.

And one more thing, okay ba Onkyo imatch sa Wharfs?

TIA

well, if you have the budget go for the 705. you will appreciate the better specs when movie watching and more so in stereo. all that extra juice allotted for 5 or 7 channels will be ready to be on tap driving your fronts in stereo mode. all other things being equal, the higher the power... the more musical it is. just ask matzter, the leading proponent of "more power, the better". i'm now a disciple.  ;D

An important factor for the 705 is the pre outs for future power amps (I have always griped about why Onkyo's pre-out capable models have to start with the 7 series) The more power the better!  ;D If this is not true, why is a 50w subwoofer "bitin"?  ;D

IMHO, I also observed that the higher the models the more musical they are, as the receiver engineer/designer has more budget for better parts. And this is true not just for the power section, but for the pre-amp as well.

A practical suggestion I can give you for your audio preference is:

Onkyo 705 + a decent 5.1 satellite (or entry level bookshelf) speakers system for your HT, then a good mid level FS for audio connected to your Onkyo's speaker B. This way you can change your audio speakers from time to time w/o worrying about the center & surrounds. I believe this option is cheaper than going for all 5-7 mid level speakers.

A good CDp is a must, then maybe a power amp in the future.

If you like harder to drive speakers like Dynaudio for your music, go for the 805, as its THX ultra and their amp sections are torture tested to 3.2 ohms before they pass the THX ultra certification.

@gearhead,

Thanks for the input.
Who knows, maging disciple na rin ako ni MAtZTER.  ;)

@MAtZTER,

Thanks for the suggestion. Siguro, unahin ko muna FS speakers before the satellites. Since the setup may be good na for music then sa HT okay na rin pansamantala. Of course if my budget allows, I might as well complete my setup based on your suggestion.

So my lego puzzle starts with:

from Onkyo TX-SR605 to Onkyo TX-SR705
Onkyo or NAD CDp
Wharfedale 9.5 or 9.6 / Mission FS (not sure about the model pa. I'm still looking.)

Sa umpisa pa lang, nararamdaman kong mapapalaban ako kay misis sa pagpapaliwanag. hehehe.
Sana maumpisahan ko na ASAP.

Mods: Sorry for OTs. :)

For those whose interested at 805 & 875 price.
805 8800 HKD Less 5%
875 11800 HKD Less 5%

All prices are base in Fortress Kowloon side beside HMV.

It is cheaper to buy an 875 than 805 in H.K. if price will be base in Amazon or Circuit City
Circuit City 875 1699.99 @ 43.5   73,949.57
Fortress H.K. 875 11800 less 5% @ 5.60   62,776.00

Pan bayad an sa courier yun difference
valuable piece of information.. like ko yong 875

mga sir,

any update sa groupbuy? may dumating na ba na 705 dito at hamats? plan sana sumabay.

nasa $610 nalang ngayon ang 705 sa amazon. i've been thinking to buy from amazon and have it shipped (free) to my cousin in LA. meron na kasi silang mga balikbayan box na ready for shipment. pwede pa ihabol yung sakin pero tagal lang ng shipping >:(. $75 lang naman daw ang balikbayan box without weight limit. kasya kaya ang packaging box ng 705 sa balikbayan box?

Problem with this is the warranty.  If defective ang AVR mo, you have to send it all the way to the US for you to avail of the warranty.

Anytime soon the 705 might be available...  I guess Audio-Video stores will bring in the 705s themselves as the Toyama distributor is too slow to bring in the units..

if this will be the case, then the warranty will be in-store instead from the distributor >:(

would only have a small diff. since both provide 1 year warranty adn the local amplifier distributor dont provide any "special" services or promotions for their customers.

you hardly feel that they even exist.
