DTS question... (baka na try nyo na)

mag pass-thru ba DTS via analog connection (RCA left and right)?
gagana ba DTS if egreat is connected to an DTS capable-HTIB thru analog? Wala kasi coaxial or optical in

TIA... para di ko na i-experiment :)

Hindi ko pa na-try set-up na yan but here's my educated guess...
i assume the DTS setting in egreat is "analog" instead of Digital (raw).  if so, i don't think you can pass thru DTS via analog...
since egreat cannot decode DTS atm, no sound will come out if you use rca cable analog.
since no sound will come out of rca analog, so your DTS capable HTIB will not detect the signal.  Besides, digital signal lang pwede i-pass thru and yung digital signal ang idedecode ng HTIB.  So since analog natatanggap ng HTIB, wala siyang ma-decode, kaya no sound...

nasubukan ko rin yan but to no avail kaya ended up buying a reciever with optical in. Kasi mga 50% din mga movies ko na DTS audio eh, kakainip if d ko rin mapanood

para sigurado, just double check the htib if it is capable of dts output. most htib's can decode dts but it won't hurt double checking before putting out a lot of cash.  ;D

I don't think there is any update for the 32b yet but you can check in the link below.

Any news when is the DTS downmix firmware for egreat going to come out?

I really want the egreat over the other NMTs but since my HTIB has no dts decoding capability, I am left with no choice but to get the PCH which by the way is also a very good NMT..

does anyone experience audio drop outs with their egreat NMTs?  All the movies I play have audio drop outs (audio suddenly goes dead for a few sec then comes back on again).  have disconnected and reconnected optical cable but problem still exists.  tried a different cable and drop outs still happen. what could possibly be wrong?

audio is connected via optical to HK AVR and video via HDMI to plasma.

i do but not in all movies.  have you tried checking if the audio drop outs occurs consistently on the same time frame of a movie?  i haven't experimented on this yet but i have a feeling it's more of a file related issue than a hardware which occurred maybe during conversion to mkv (from it's original source).

It did happened to me (2x) in one AVI movie which I DL but not on the MKV's.

strange for me because I experience audio drop outs in all the movies loaded in the hdd of my egreat, as in ALL.  And, it does not happen only once in a movie but several times so its quite annoying already.

will try to see if it occurs consistently on same time frame, thanks for the suggestion tennisdude.  I figure though, the audio drop outs happen intermittently but randomly

sir you could try to isolate first the optical cable tas if ganun parin try to erase the file sa drive then load mo uli sa drive, or if you have a network use the ihome to play the video for you and check for differences.

Is there anyway to set or make a playlist when watching movies?

Playlist as in the movies will automatically play one after the other?   That is quite possible with the HTPC provided you name the files in sequence - as in the case of entire TV series (e.g. 24 S01E01 - 24 S01E24)

Playlist as in the files are arranged or grouped in your preferred manner?  You simply have to create folders and sub-folders in your hard drive.

i've tried a neighbor's optical cable for a short time and experienced drop out once.  Will try to test more extensively.  yung free optical cable kasi ng egreat is so skinny  baka may tama na  :(

OT: ano mga affordable brands ng optical cables?  mga less than 500 lang sana

i have a bluray rip and when i go inside the folder, it has multiple m2ts? files. how do i set that it will play continously?

i also have the series 24 in 1 folder but it stops playing after each file.

you should use the play button instead of pressing the enter button.

Planning to upgrade the internal hdd of my 31b to either 1Tb or 1.5TB (leaning on 1.5TB para isang gastos nalang hehe). So far, may issues ba sa 1.5TB? I already back-read the thread and yung last mention nito is I think late last year pa...baka may bagong updates na.

I think ang main issue sa 1.5TB is heat...sobrang init ba talaga na hindi advisable? Minsan kasi naiiwan kong bukas yung player kapag nakakatulog ako. Also, mas mabagal ba ang seek time pag sa 1.5Tb compared to 1TB? Lastly, would you guys recommend a particular brand and model for both 1TB and 1.5TB. Thanks!

Pahabol na tanong, my 31b is currently connected to a 32" Samsung which can display up to 1080i only. Should I pick 1080i as my video output? Given this, when I play a 720p file, does it mean it upconverts to 1080i? And lastly, which looks better (when playing a 720p file) - yung 1080i video output (na upconverted) or 720p video output nalang.

I actually tested it already pero parang placebo effect sa akin so curious lang ako kung anu talaga hehe

Yes.  In this regard, egreat is superior and cheaper to PC since in PC, you need a sound card that supports pass through of the mentioned lossless audio which at the moment are costly.

I have a Sammy R81 which displays upto 1080i only. When viewing films from the Egreat, there is hardly any difference in the resolution when outputting 720p or 1080i...so I just use 720p. Gren mentioned that 1080i or 1080p resolution is a must for displays ranging from 37" and above. So for us who have smaller displays, 720p will do. ;)

Finally got hold of this device..and it's been livin up to its name.

On a scale from 1 to 10 with a powerful HTPC rated at 10, I'd give this a 9.0 based strictly on its playback capabilities.

Less 0.1 point for slow browsing of contents through remote operation, another 0.1 less for limited subtitle controls, minus 0.1 for selective stuttery (very slight only - could be content issue) playback (relative to the HTPC), and the rest of the full point for lack of built-in DTS to stereo downmixer.

In any case, PQ and SQ are gorgeous when properly configured.  Combines greatly with LCD, Plasma and HD CRT.  For those still owning bulky Japanese surplus TVs, this device can make those 720p/1080i CRTs shine really bright.   Amazing to see such a small device handle very very large files having different encodes with ease.

HTPC and NMT (Egreat in my particular case) - excellent combination for multi-room, multi-TV/user environment.  Parang gusto ko pang tanggapin yung ibang trade offers with the hard drives.    ;D
