Hi!   I have a Marantz SR8001.  Im using a 2 speaker setup... Dynaudio Audience 62.  I had a problem with my receiver.  It goes to protect mode alot.  When it does, it won't turn on, always going back to protect mode.  But after like a day or two, it turns on again fine.  Later on, I lowered the volume.  From -10 db to -20 db.  From now on, I seldom even go to protect mode and even if it does, it goes to normal function by itself at once.  Unfortunately, at -20 db I found the volume sometimes too low.  Could it be that the speaker is too demanding even for the flagship receiver?  I have read the dynaudio thread in AVS forum and no one even looks at receivers in powering their speakers.

Maybe you can try connecting your Marantz to another brand of speaker to pinpoint the source of the problem? Or have your Dynaudio speaker connect to a different receiver? You can try contacting Audioworld as they have a technical repair dept and they handle Marantz and Yamaha brands. Hope they can help you find a solution.

sir, your dyns are rated at 4ohms, 150 watts...your receiver is 8 ohms, 125watts...it will always be in the protect mode specially if your pushing your avr to it's limits.i have the same unit before (but now it has a new owner  :) ), but in -15db, satisfied na ako sa PQ, my previous FS is only 200watts / 8ohms.

even if you push the ATT from the remote, protect mode would still occur.

try to use a power amp, you can use the sr8001 as pre....hope this helps...

@rahvin, it could be mismatched impedance of your amp & speakers. If you don't have plan to change either your gears, I suggest to find something like this or equal function locally.

hi....this is part of what you said....." Later on, I lowered the volume.  From -10 db to -20 db"..........this means you're pushing your avr to drive the speakers in it's fullest...sr8001 can go as far as +18db, if it is not in audyssey mode...... but i assure u, when i am using the same avr, malakas ung -10db.(take note that my speaker is 8ohm only, yours is 4ohms) ..hanggang -15 to 20 db lang ako most of the time..i don't go farther than that figure..

sure the avr can handle your speaker, if you are not pushing it too hard...doing so the speaker might cause the amplifier to be damaged. At any given voltage drive level, a 4Ω speaker will draw twice as much current as will an 8Ω speaker. "some" marantz units apparently did not provide for the output stage of the amplifier to handle the current draw into a 4Ω speaker.

i would just like to ask your opinion (aside from the review from the net) regarding marantz sr9600 for home theater. i saw the new models of marantz, ie 7005, 7002 and 7001. but the transformers are not the same what they have before. hindi na siya torroidal. hoping for your feedback.thanks.

Sir Sovrain may have bought his Marantz from abroad. I think he posted in another thread that he got it from abroad.

As far as I know Audyssey is best used for multi-channel speakers specially for movies. Maybe for now, set your surround speakers to "None" and just run Audyssey for the 2 channels. Pero you may still need to tweak your settings manually after the calibration. And once you already have the surround speakers, you need to recalibrate.

Sobrang mag init ang Marantz receiver, even in 8 ohms, what more kung 4 ohms (tapos 86db sensitivity pa, whew), grabe sobrang hirap i-drive nyan... unless you are using flagship Marantz  or any Solid/Power Amplifier that can handle 4 ohms.

Most of the available consumer receivers are rated at 8 ohms, it can drive 6 to 16 ohms without any problems.

Driving 4 ohms is another story; at any given voltage drive level, a 4 ohm speaker will draw twice as much
current as will an 8 ohm speaker.

Sure it will produce louder sound if you use 4 ohm, but can your receiver or amplifier handle it? Most likely you will fry your receiver or amp.

Good thing may mga build-in auto off/protection mode pag hirap ang amp/receiver or pag may ground/short circuits para di masira.

Get a more power amp or change speaker  :D

Maybe depends on the type of setup and speaker brand. There is an article about an audiophile reviewer connecting his 50 watts Marantz to a B&W Nautilus 804 and turned out ok.

Yan nga problem.  I've seen in the dynaudio thread in avsforum some people using the SR7001 with no problem.  Thats why I bought the SR8001 thinking kung walang problem yun SR7001, what more yun SR8001 which should be the top of the line sa mga receivers and having a torroidal power supply. Some even use Onkyo Receiver (which is supposed to be at a lower level than Marantz) on the even more demanding Dynaudio Confidence.

Anyway, right now its working fine pa rin except for the protect mode from time to time, but I guess I probably will have to look for a NAD master series nalang.  Any of you guys know where I can find this?  Thanks!

Master Series M15 HD2 Pre-Pro + M25 Power Amp po ba? I'm yet to see them locally. You can try contacting Audible Illusions, Watt HiFi or Spectra if they can order this for you.

Marantz is renowned to be (more) musical, no argument on this one.

With regards to movies, I think the difference is almost negligible.
