Has anyone used their Marantz amp on speakers that are less than 8 ohms? I'm planning to get Monitor Audio speakers... after researching on them and listening to them I just noticed that they're 6ohms! I'm going to run them on an SR4500.

Any Feedback? TIA!

It'll work. Impedance varies w/ frequency. Some 8-ohmers go down to 3-2 ohms. Just keep the amp properly ventilated especially if you're playing it loud.

I've paired it with old Mordaunt Short bookshelves which are bright. I'll be pairing them with MA B4 and center this weekend. Will post my findings.

Actaully, I was impressed. I was planning to get the MS 914, I even read last night that it had a 5 star rating versus MA B4, AE Evo3 and others in it's price range. I'm getting the MA B4 because I got a good deal for them and I think it's hard to source a pair of black MS914 now (di ako makaintay :P)

Super luma na yung speakers ko.. I think this was their last pair before being bought by Marantz...

Still sound good, a bit bright... my room probably adds to it since the room is bare.

Hello,

Settings on my sr4500 crossover 80 speakers set to small subwoofer yes, center +3 .bass and treble flat or +3 depending on material.Nothing special but what I want to point out is in gaming when connected to an Audigy 2 value through 5.1 analog input ,the Subwoofer in is automatically set at +10 this corrects the audigy soundcard series weak subwoofer output when connected analog to a reciever, which has been a pain for audigy owners since the beginning. This + 10 also corrects weak Dvd Audio SW input. The gaming experience from a reciever /Bookshelf Audio Speaker/Subwoofer  set up is just so much more intense at times overwhelming in sound output.I thought my old Megaworks 550 was intense, yet it does not even come close.5.1 Games like Battlefield 2 and Counterstrike Source sound so much more immersive than most 5.1 movie soundtracks. Also I add about + 3 to 5 on my subwoofer volume to make it more of a boomy mess which sounds just right for gaming.

Gamit kong speakers Aurum Cantus f5000r,F5000C,Wharf Wh2 rear at sw150 sub.+3 lang gamit ko sa center at distance settings lang for the rest.Sa gaming mode analog 5.1 in gamit ko(7.1 input button)Direct 5.1 from soundcard kaya walang sound mode yun.

bro gubs! cge ill try +3 sa center then 0 na lahat n base nalang dun sa distance nya...ako kasi i use ps2 for my games n i use yung DPLII or yung neo6: cinema....pero halos same lang sila eh... wats the difference ba between pure direct n stereo? parang mas ok pa dating ng stereo sakin pag audio lang....

@Kt

Mas ok din saakin ang stereo sa pure direct pagka audio dahil mas malakas ang bass at adjustable pa ang bass and treble through tone controls.Ang pagka alam ko sa Pure direct sa nababasa ko I binabypass lahat ng dsp at tone controls ng reciever giving you unprocessed signal either from digital in or analog two channel in.
Ang Panorama mode according to the manual ay wrap around effect ng frnt left and rght speakers.Width ay yung spreading of the center channel to the front lft and rght spkrs kaya humihina o lumalakas ang center channel. And dimension naman linilipat yung soundfield between the front and rear spkrs.Hope this helps.

@KT
Hope this helps.

I'm not Gubs but I'm long time user of Marantz. CS (Circle Sorround) is a matrix encoder for any mono or stereo source for 6 channel output (5.1).
Equalizer (other cinema equalizer) Movies are designed for Theaters, so the recording Engineers intentionaly add decibels on the high frequency side (Theaters have a lot of soft material eg. chairs, walls ceiling all acoustically treated). In our home, some DVD audio recordings tend to be so bright and fatiguing high frequency, in order to correct it you can easily turn-on the equalizer.

.........or simply RTFM hehehehe!

Hi kt, actually tried to experiment all the functions of my receiver the first time i have it. In the long run I realized non of this is useful when it comes to movies once you stick to your DVD source.
Those CSII, DPLII, Neo6 can only be use when watching movie with only 2 channel source like VCD's, VHS or even LD. Normally I listened to music and very comfortable with Source direct (S-direct) mode wherein Bass & Treble are bypass yes, I listened only on stereo mode.

By the way, Multi-channel stereo setting is very good with "Magic Sing".
Enjoy!

Hi Gubs, hope this help. Settings of your speakers (in your receiver) must be semi-permanent, I mean you will never change settings not unless you change your speakers. Changing from time-to-time is sometimes irritating. Your system should be plug'n' play.
You need to optimized your settings for more enjoyable movie watching or listening to music either multi-ch or stereo mode. Some Marantz receiver (mostly new one)  have a good "Bass Mangement" system set-up wherein you can change "frequency cutoff" of each channel depending on the low frequency capability of your speakers (60hz, 80hz, 100hz...120hz) but if you don't have that kind of settings I bellieved Marantz set it to 100hz.
some Subwoofers have built-in frequency cut-off wherein it filters signal depending on your setting (Normally from 50Hz - 200hz).
Check thread on subwoofer set-up, sometimes need to relocate your sub in order to hear better & extended bass sound. Try to optimized your subwoofer using test CD's or DVD's available.
Just my cents.

Very seldom na rin ako makinig sa SS in 2 channel mode, mas relax ako sa tube amp.  Try to invest with a good CD player for your 2 channel listening, iba may dedicated CD player, it has more weight (mataba tunog) wider & deeper soundstage.
Marantz receiver is one of the best sounding A/V Receiver amplifier I've known.

Ano ng gamit mong speakers bro kt? :)

That's weird considering the resolution of CD playback compared to FM (radio Signal). Lets try to fix it:
1. What is your CD player?
2. What is your connection? Digital or analog (2pair of RCA)
            - In case RCA (analog) Try to use i pc. of RCA connected to your receiver (Your receiver might be capable of upsampling 24/192
             - or the other way around
3. Try to use you DVD player as your CD player
I'll wait for your reply.
