1. as far as i know, HopeStar gave its inhouse warranty. there was no mention of a service center locally, nor is there any warranty card to be filled up. The invoice serves as the warranty.

2. regarding why hopestar was recommended, actually, it was not really recommended per se. it just so happen when i was shopping for a dvd unit, sila lang ang meron nitong Lexing DIVX model. the other stalls all have various Lexing models, but there was no indication of DIVX. Thats why it was shared to everyone that the unit I bought was from Hopestar. But "recommending" that store, hindi naman po talaga naman po ganon ang purpose ng posting. It was to make members here see the unit faster, easier with an identified source.

iyon lang po! i hope those who were able to acquire this unit have been enjoying it with good performance.

i just bought one this afternoon sa hope star. actually madami silang nagbebenta nito doon kaya lang i ended up buying the unit from them kasi sabi ng saleslady lifetime daw ang service warranty nila compared sa iba na strictly 1 year lang. so far so good ang performance, but the durabilty remains a mystery dahil malalaman lang natin yun in the long run. by the way, i got it for PHP1750 kasi nung pagdating daw ng mga new stocks medyo nagmahal na ng konti.

My friend bought Lexing DVD-DIVX Model 5168, how is it different? From the specs mentioned, it seems like they are pretty much identical except that the 5168 seems smaller and lighter. Remote is the same, and hopefully it also plays DIVX as stated on the nameplate.

If you guys can give more information about it, it will be great as I was tasked to look for info about this.

BTW, if it can play DIVX, is there a chance it can also play XVID?

sorry to say this to anyone who bought it...

advatage of lexing...
Lexing is very known to generate less heat... sila lang ang mga natry ko na unbranded na di nagiinit kahit more than 8 hours of DVD movies watching...

too  much heat will make your player skip reading... but orange can read almost 96% of all kinds of cd/dvd...

about the DIVX features... lexing can play both dvix/xvid and mpeg4 videos... but some xvid it can't play... only audios... divx 3.11/5.x/6.x... it can play flawlessly... but some xvid won't play...

and more shocking with lexing with dvix... and cost around P1,700... di sya tunay na 5.1 channel... naka series lang lahat ng RCA output nya...

i will recommend PROMAC with divx... 5.1 channel sya... kaso DTS is not supported... and promac with divx can play all divx/xvid/mpeg4 videos... multisession or not... dvd-r, dvd+r, dvd-rw and dvd+rw... around P2000 sya... sa mga budget conscious... piliin nyo yung promac na plain lang with round button... maliit lang sya...

i bought lexing with divx... sa raon electronic shop din... sinoli ko when i watch dvd with dolby digital at dts... naka series lang sya... not a 5.1 player...

then exchange it with promac... dolby lang sya... mute ang dts... pero OKAY ang divx nya... kaso di pa rin satisfied... cuz walang DTS... so i sell with my cousin...

and finally the last one in SM appliance center... XENON with divx and USB 2.0 support, progressice scan, vga out, builtin dolby digital and dts decoder... touch panel ang button nya... for only P3,690... so if you can find such this player... i will recommend it... you can't get wrong with this player...

sorry to say it to those who bought the lexing... no 5.1 channel output... pero kung sa tv nyo lang ilalagay eto or sa component's AUX 2 channel lang... this is a BEST BUY...

lexing that i tried...::::
divx/xvid/mpeg-4 player... OKAY...
dvd-r, dvd+r, dvd-rw, dvd+rw, svcd, sacd, hdcd, cd, vcd, mp3/wma... OKAY...
progressive scan, vga out... OKAY...
generate less heat... OKAY na OKAY...
CHEAP... OKAY NA OKAY...

BUT... rca 5.1 channels is a fake... naka series lang sya... so to those who have a 5.1 speaker... di sya gagana...

pero kung mayroon kayong Dobly/DTS decoder/receiver using OPTICAL/COAX cable... or only want to hear STEREO OUTPUT connected to TV or your favorite's component sound system... at walang balak bumili ng original na DVD movies... CHEAP and MORE FEATURE than the others...... then BUY THIS ONE...

hope i help... heheheheheh... LOL...

@thejoker
bro are you referring to all lexing models or this particular one only? i'm planning to buy a 5.1 channel speaker and  if what you're saying is true then maybe i should'nt go through with it.

How does Lexing compare to Ace dvd players? I came across several models of Ace; unlike Lexing, there was no "divx" label  anywhere on the players but they play divx and xvid files; it didn't play my ogg files though. The saleslady told me that Ace and Hug dvd players were made by the same company, except Ace cost less than Hug - and I remember Hug getting good reviews somewhere in this forum.

Anyone know which is better, Lexing or Ace divx capable players? They cost the same....

there is only way to test if the unit has a true 5.1 channel output thru its RCA at the back... try to use 5.1 speaker on it...

i think LEXING with the price tag of P1,700 below has no true 5.1 channel... only on OPTICAL/COAX digital output...

and i test this LEXING 906 and 5168 and the orange lining that look like a space schip... with round display...

binili ko yung orange lining na mukhang space ship... kasi medyo malaki yung dalawa... and i bought my XFILES (divx 640x352) and Dark Angel (Xvid 720x400)... and even tried the 906 and 5168... they all play my dvd+r multisesion disc...

pero after two days... kasi puro divx/xvid ang pinapanood ko... nanood me ng Planets of the Apes... dun ko nalaman na nakaseries lang ang front channels to all channels... ang sub / center / rear has the same audio output from the front...

so sinoli ko... then i tried the 906... the same... then 5168 the same... sabi ko kunin ko na lang ang pera ko kasi di ko naman magagamit... at meron akong 10 days return policies sa kanila...

sabi ng saleslady dun meron ang promac... 3203... divx din daw... at 5.1... kasi nakalagay sa box... pero sabi ko try natin... dala ko uli yun mga dvd ko na dvix/xvid... at yung THX/Dolby/DTS demo dvd disc ko para sigurado... at this time sabi ko hook natin sa 5.1 speaker... yun okay ang audio ng PROMAC 3203... it has a new interface... pero parang pinalitan lang ng SKINS kasi the same pa rin ang layout ng menu... but different background... katulad ng menu ng LEXING na nabili ko sa kanila... so nagdagdag ako ng P500 para sa PROMAC... mahal daw kasi sa warranty... so okay... PROMAC ang binili ko..

habang naglalakad... napansin ko na walang logo ang DTS sa kahon... everything is there... but no DTS logo... so i tried it pagkadating ko sa bahay... no AUDIO output when you select DTS... even on the digital OPTICAL/COAX... no DTS... then when i read the manual... DTS is not supported... MUTE ang audio if you select DTS language...

pero PROMAC pass all the test i tried... all kinds of cd/dvd i tried... pati sa divx/xvid... even tried the latest DIVX codec which is 6.0 pro... nare-read din nya... i'm very satisfied but something inside me that tell i shouldn't... {{sigh}}... so i end up selling it to my cousin...

so here it is... if you want to try the 5.1 channel... only way is hook it on 5.1 speaker... and test every speaker output... but some salesman and saleslady will tell you the truth... at eto ang sinabi nila sa akin... yung may mga GAMES or RADIO daw ay nakaseries lang ang output... di daw 5.1... puwede mo silang tanungin... pero the best way is to test it... okay....

so LEXING DIVX players... is A OKAY... if you don't want to use 5.1 speaker thru its RCA analog output... i will guarantee it to those who want a DIVX player thats very cheap... P1,600 yung orange ang outline na mukhang spaceship... P1,700 naman dun sa 906 at 5168...

PROMAC 3203 is also a BEST BUY... P2100... small... compact... looks good... but no DTS...

i will recommend this two... no problem whatsoever i encounter while using this two... only time will tell kung tatagal ba talaga sila... pero 1 year is enough... tumagal lang sila ng isang taon... okay na... sulit na ang pagkakabili mo... cuz repair on DVD LENS or a new DVD LENS will almost cuz a new DVD player... so imbes na ipayos nyo... bili uli kayo ng bago... siguro after 1 year... meron na uling bagong model and maybe has a new features also...

DVD PLAYER na generic has their lens calibrated espcially on TRACKIN/FOCUS so that it can read all kinds of dvd/cd disc on the market that mostly found on QUIAPO stalls...

di tulad ng mga BRANDED DVD PLAYER... makakabasa sila pero too much heat/voltage/current on IC Driver that handles the FOCUS/TRACKING... too much stress will put on the lens... unless you are a NO PIRACY afficionados... then go with PHILIPS and PIONEER... they are the best...

hope i helps... thanks a lot... hehehehehhe... LOL...

naka set ba sa 5.1 channel yung audio setup nung Lexing when you tried it? Ang default setting kasi is two-channel.

Hello folks.. newbie po ako dito..   :)

Konting background lang.... Ive had 3 DVD players (plus 2 sa parents and sis ko).. 2 of them nasira na, and the one i was using cant play a lot of discs i buy or borrow from my friend. Been meaning to get a new DVD player for a while now, and narinig ko sa mga chatmates kong taga U.S. na meron daw DivX capable DVD player... hanap ako ng hanap kung meron nyan dito sa pinas, dami ko ng stalls natanungan (divisoria, sta cruz, tiangge sa malls, greenhills, etc) WALANG may alam ano ba itong DivX na pinagsasabi ko... akala ko sa US pa lang meron nun at pinagiisipan kong magpabili ba sa kamaghanak sa US/HK or bili na ko dito ng regular player lang.

This Saturday, bigla kong naisipang mag Google at nahanap ko nga itong PinoyDVD.com... wow!! meron pala nito dito!!

Nagdala ako ng ilang DVDs for testing.

This is the  result of my TESTING, ROUND 1 (in the store)

 * DVD (Oceans 12) that my old player cant read, di rin kaya ni Lexing...    :(

 * DVDs na may errors/pixelations/nagstastall sa mga later chapters (70% w/in the movie.. nabitin nga ako e) nag work! Nabasa nya and i can now finish watching them...  :)

So ok na , i bought the unit already but i wished it played sana lahat ng test dvds ko..

Pagdating sa bahay, meron pang TESTING, ROUND 2...

  * First, I tried more Divx files.. ok na ok talaga! Pero i tried ayaw nya Quicktime and WMV files. Pwede MPG files. And may isang disc ako mga Justice league 4 out of 5 na play nya, yung isa audio lang lumabas.

(one is Monster in Law)  :(

 * Tapos.. :(

Try ko other WORKING DVDs ko.. , ayaw na rin!! akala ko tuluyan ng nasira.. pero nagtry naman ako ng iba e pwede.. ang  gulo... siguro nadumihan kaya yun dahil pinilit kong iplay yung mga dati kong unplayable? or dahil sa games and divx files? i dont know.. e di ko pa mahanap yung dvd cleaner ko..  :(

Round 3 of testing...

Ginawa ko, I paused. Tapos Play uli.. bumalik sa normal speed. Did this several times until  later e parang may err pa rin.. di ko na tinapos since testing phase pa ako...

CONCLUSION:

Sobrang tuwa ko sa pagkadiscover sa PinoyDVD.com and i learned a lot.. parang nag-cram ako sa exam kasi nilamayan ko talaga ng isang gabi lang ang mga threads dito. Gusto ko sana sa BestSeven or Nova kasi ang reviews doon e it can take anything you throw at them..  Warped DVDs, DVD-R, scratched discs, etc.. yun bang feeling ko e it can play lahat nitong problematic DVDs na triny ko.. the only drawback is.. di sila DIVX capable. E gusto ko talaga may DIVX player, investment for the future dahil balak kong mag-DSLl one of these days...

I will test this further this week. So far e puro testing pa lang ako at walang pang pinapanood na full feature film from start to finish...  sana fluke lang yung time na biglang ayaw magplay ng maraming discs na natest kong ok naman dati.. Maybe nadumihan lang yun? what do you guys think? tsaka bakit yung ibang DVD e ayaw talaga? Wapred disc kaya ito?

Re: yung 5.1, DTS, etc.. im not much of an audiophile and wala naman akong 5.1 surround. So i probably wont know what im missing... ;D   and btw  impressed ako ha, meron pa la syang 3D feature na may equalizer pa.. parang Winamp..  ;D

Sorry for the very long post (1st time ko pa naman).. excited lang ako sa bago kong player.. hehe  ;D

Thanks to all and goodday !

Yun pala e nasa likod ang switch.. ehe he he..    ::)

Nakita ko rin ito.. its smaller and lighter nga.  Aside from its size, the main  differences are:

   1) Wala syang VGA port..  (dati nagtataka nga ako bakit may mga players na may VGA port.. what use is this? bakit ko naman ikakabit sa PC Monitor ko ito?? Until i realized from somewhere in Pinoydvd its main use.. pwede nga pala itong ikabit sa LCD projector.. so kung may LCD projector ka e pwede mong iproject sa malaking screen.. instant Home Theater!!  :)   (pero most of us dont have LCD projector naman e...  :(  )

   2) Main advantage ng Model 906 is marami syang menu buttons sa front panel.. very useful if di mo mahanap remote control (w/c is often my case kasi tinatago sya ng anak ko..  ;D ;D ;D )

Same price lang ang 2 models na ito... when 906 cant play some of the DVDs i brought for testing.. triny ko itong 5168.. sabi ko if it manages to play these DVDs where 906 failed e sya na kukunin ko.. pero same lang, ayaw din nyang magplay so duon na ako sa 906...

Oo nga pala.. i did not take into consideration na mahaba nga pala size nya.. ng nialgay ko sa TV cabinet ko e eksakto lang sya!! bale 1/2 inch clearance lang on both sides or 1 inch total lang ang extra space na natira!! whew!! muntik ng di kumasya!!!!  ::)

yup bro i was there nung sunday mga around 11:30-12:00. nice review, keep us posted if you encounter anymore weird things with your unit. medyo busy kasi ako and hindi ko masyado ma-test yung akin, i haven't even watched a full movie since i bought this! only tested a few of my divx discs and yung iba audio nga lang lumalabas, but i think your right about the codecs part. yung sinasabi mo bang magandang saleslady eh yung naka-red?  ;) ;)

Lexing can't read "DivX MPEG4 Low and Fast Motion" aka "DivX 3.11"... only audio... i didn't have a chance to try the new 6.0 pro...

promac can read DivX 3.11 upto 6.0 pro... but not the 6.0 pro media files...

and yes... i set the DOWNMIXING to 5.1 / off... naka series lang talaga ang RCA analog 5.1 channel ouput ng lexing... but STEREO is OKAY... especially when you have a subwooffer...

but LEXING and PROMAC is still a BEST BUY...

all i can share about PROMAC brand is that I hope its new units, new dvd model players have really improved in terms of reliability.

i used to own four DIFFERENT promac dvd players. Lahat po sira na. Lahat po hindi rin umabot ng 1 year life span; longest probably was just 8 months and it conked out. I had to bring them to Quiapo Promac service center. After repair, symptoms comes out perhaps in less than a month.

Thus, my impression of PROMAC brand is not really good. For now.

Thus, when i now go scouting new players, i have this "weird" way of making my decision that even if Promac has better features than a different brand that I have not tested/used/owned before, i would rather gamble on the NEW brand than Promac. Kasi pag masira uli ang promac in less than a year, talagang mumurahin ko lang sarili ko for not learning from old mistakes.

Iyon lang po. But i do wish Promac now has improved its player's mechanism.

best to all.

thanks a lot... hope i help...

i just bought this in raon.since i totally forgot to bring my own burned dvd,ive let it and went anyway to buy because of this forum.

and the verdict.i'm frustrated to a point since it can't play almost all my not even scratched dvd's that i burned(it plays on the pc on  windvd).even some mp3's can't be read.i also have 2 divx cd and dvd, which it can't read.but the pirated dvd's that can be bought in quiapo and the likes all played well.

and the frustrating thing nga pala is,our pioneer and jvc dvd player, can all play those dvd's that i burned(dvd+r) using my dvd writer.i bought this lexing for my room, now i'm stuck with p*dvd's only, which it can very well play, pero pagdating na sa mga burned dvd's,mostly yung dvd-r's ko lang gumagana.hindi pa lahat.yung prodata and imation dvd_r lang din.ano ba yan, bakit mas mapili pa to?

i suggest you have it replaced but bring those discs you burned that the unit could not play para mapakita mo sa kanila. the only problem i have with this player is that it only plays audio w/o video older divx file versions that i downloaded about 4 years ago, and it also does not recognize asf file format (to which my "bangbus" collection belongs).

meron ba digital out ang Lexing, kasi medyo maliit yung pic kaya di ko mkita? based on previous posts hindi maganda 5.1 output niya so ang pagasa nalang is to connect this to a receiver :)

@vision
problema ko nga ngayun kung tutuloy ko pa yung pagbili ng digital camcorder which records videos in asf files kasi kailangan ko pa i-convert  bago ko burn sa dvd so my lexing can play it. you have any idea how to upgrade the firmware?

some updates and comments lang...

Lexing ko naman so far can play burned dvd-r's...  di kaya sa media na ito? ive burned 10 dvds so far (3 titles only, just burned multiple copies) and played perfecttly in my lexing. in fact i tested also sa old player ko (mabusisi kasi ako) may 1 scene may error/pixelated pero same disc/scene plays ok w my lexing..

I had  one disc  na dating may error and i cant watch the ending (in my old player),  then i tried watching sa PC ko, ayaw pa rin.. i even tried burning/copying the disc pero nag error, may part na di mabasa talaga ng dvd-rom drive. pero sa lexing e naplay naman nya.   ;D  so i guess this means na siguro system and disc dependent talaga yan... paiba iba yata talaga  :)

Re Divx capalities...   im trying to compile all my divx files to burn on 1 dvd..  yun nga, some plays others dont.
I found a utility called GSPOT...   it  gives complete info on your video file.. what codec, etc.  So far napansin ko Divx3 Low/Fast motion wont play...  Mga nagplaplay e Divx4 fast motion (i dont have a divx4 low motion so i cant confirm if it can play or not)

Question now is... is there a good utility to convert these divx3 to divx4? yung mabilis lang sana, other converters kasi tales a long time.... sana someone can suggest here..   :)

@Lexing Luthor...

fast conversion...??? i think sold your lexing and buy PROMAC 3203... until now... LEXING's firmware is not stable on DIVX/XVID... promac firmware is much stable and latest than LEXING's firmware tapos 5.1 pa... heheheh... LOL... expecially on DIVX3... sa lexing audio lang talaga ang magpe-play... this method is the fastest i know....

but if you have time like me... convert those files... i do it because... MEDIATEK 1389 based player... like XENON, NOVA, PHILIPS, PIONEER... can't support GMC warp point 3... only 2 warp point... eh medyo mga nadodownload kong mga anime na XVID... may GMC lahat eh... so convert ko sya using VIRTUALDUBMOD... medyo matagal pero okay lang... di naman me nagmamadali eh... ganun din sa LEXING and PROMAC i previously owned... di rin supported ang GMC... so tyaga lang talaga... convert mo na lang...

but PHILIPS and PIONEER will be supporting GMC file within DIVX/XVID... pero mas mahal ata ang player na yun... kasi hardware dependant kasi yun eh...

hope i helps... hehehehhe... LOL...
