Panasonic 55VT60:

Panasonic TC-PVT60 series review:
This plasma picture finally challenges Kuro

If you want ultradeep blacks on your TV screen -- and that's what we all should want, since they're the chief ingredient in amazing home theater picture quality -- you'll find them in the Panasonic VT60. This TV beats the Samsung F8500 in terms of black level, although it can't match that panel for image brightness. But in a dim to dark room, the kind in which you'll want to watch any good TV to best appreciate its picture quality, the VT60 wins -- it gets plenty bright enough for most rooms, and that much darker. Colors are a little more vivid on the Panasonic, and flesh tones are healthier looking than the Samsung can muster.

Of the six TVs in our comparison lineup, it was really a two-horse race between the Panasonic VT60 and the Pioneer Elite Kuro 111FD. While the Pioneer did some things better, the Panasonic had a more impressive picture overall due to its slightly deeper black levels and better shadow detail. So in a way, despite the fact that it's the ZT60 Panasonic is touting as a Kuro-killer, the less expensive VT60 is actually the first TV we've tested to outperform our in-house Kuro.

Unfortunately i can only drool on this VT60 for 2 reasons, for a 55 or 60inch this could cost you around 230k to 250k uber expensive for a salaried paid AV enthusiast lol.. and 2ndly it's availibility here in our shores if you can afford one.

Kung naniwala kayong super bargain yung 50VT30 for 60K and took advantage of that chance, then you wont have to drool for a VT60 or VT50 for the next 3-5 years...and by that time, the VT60 should be 60K na rin.  hehehe

Tama. By that time, 60K na lang ang VT60.

Pero drool pa rin.  Bakit?  Kasi by that time, OLED na ang uso...  :D

Between a 60K VT60 and an OLED, I would choose the VT60 unless perhaps it's a 60K 4K OLED.

Sabi ko rin sa Misis ko, if Panasonic quits Plasma, I would buy the last ZT or VT model for bargain and tago muna in its box in case buhay na buhay pa yung V2 ko. hehehe.

Yeah... that would be a really great bargain... a 60K 50Vt30...

Sayang walang extra funds to get the 50 incher back in Oct 2012...

I guess I'll have to be content with my Mini Vt30 :D

Panasonic 55ST60:

Panasonic TC-PST60 series review:
Affordable TV with amazing picture quality

By David Katzmaier
Review Date: 4/12/13

The good: The Panasonic TC-PST60 series has a reasonable price, an incredibly good picture quality with exceedingly deep black levels, great shadow detail, accurate colors, solid bright-room performance, and superb off-angle and uniformity characteristics; it also features sleek styling with metal accents, plenty of Smart TV content, and includes two pairs of 3D glasses.

The bad: Worse 3D quality compared with many competing TVs; not as suited to extremely bright rooms as some LCD models; consumes more power than LCD TVs.

The bottom line: The midlevel price and outstanding quality of the Panasonic TC-PST60 series make it our strongest TV recommendation ever.

UK review, Panasonic 60ZT65 (60ZT60 in the U.S.):

Panasonic TX-P60ZT65B Plasma TV
By David Mackenzie
6 May 2013
Verdict: Reference Level

We’ve analysed several outstanding HDTVs in our time, and that has especially been the case in the last few months, where we’ve been treated to an onslaught of plasma televisions that are all phenomenal in one way or another. You can’t go wrong with any of them, but weighed up subjectively, the strengths of the TXP60ZT65B arguably do make it the best HDTV we’ve ever tested. Of course that doesn’t mean it’s perfect: if you don’t like Panasonic’s approach to panel driving (which, in our opinion, is a great balance between smooth, clean images and sufficient, but not total suppression of false contouring during motion) then you still won’t like the ZT. The same goes if you just flat out do not like plasma displays. We believe that the vast majority of viewers will be wowed by the picture quality of a calibrated TXP60ZT65, though.

Just from looking at the previous years, I doubt the ZT will come here. The best model Panasonic will bring will probably be the st60. Reviews say it has very good black levels but mediocre amounts of lag, bad for gaming.

Samsung F8500 Review
By Lee Neikirk
April 12, 2013

That may sound like effusive praise, but it's the truth. Within the realm of picture quality, Samsung's F8500 is absolutely awesome. The brightness this plasma achieves is worth praise alone, but its deep black levels and the accuracy of its colors are solid gold stamps, branding it as the current TV to beat.

We've been very impressed with plasma tech this year: Panasonic's S60 and VT60 series hit unspeakable black levels, and each 2013 plasma has come within just a few decimal points of perfectly matching the international standard for HDTV color. The F8500's contrast ratio (over 10,000:1) is unlike almost any TV we've reviewed before, and may just surpass the legendary Kuro in its staggering black/white differentiation.

Samsung PS64F8500 Plasma TV Review
By David Mackenzie
1 May 2013

On the whole, we were very happy indeed with the PS-64F8500′s performance. It produces outstanding picture quality with extreme contrast performance (deep blacks and very bright whites) commonly only seen on prototype OLED TVs, which will have astronomical price tags when they finally become available at this screen size (hell, given the constantly missed shipping dates for OLED panels, maybe we should be saying “IF they become available at this screen size”). Its greyscale, gamma and colour accuracy are all first-rate, and its handling of SD content is the industry’s best – and it’s here now.

It isn’t entirely free of quirks, however, and while those mean we can’t technically label the PS64F8500 a “reference level” product, please do keep in mind that it’s only a hair’s breadth away. We have a hard time imagining the few small issues we found being deal-breakers for too many people, especially when you consider the image quality and value for money on offer. The improvements which Samsung have been making to their plasmas in recent years are astonishing, and that’s before you consider the rate the improvements have been coming at. In fact, by promoting largely the bright whites, but being quieter about the incredibly deep blacks, Samsung have underpromised and overdelivered with this display.

Samsung PNF8500 review: Power-packed plasma shines brighter
Review Date: 5/01/13
By David Katzmaier

The F8500 deserves a spot in the upper echelon of TVs you can buy, and in a bright room it's the best plasma I've ever seen. In moderate rooms, it doesn't quite match up to the picture quality of the like-priced Panasonic TC-PVT60 series, and while I'd say it's a superior performer to the ST60 by a nose, they both earn the same 9 rating in this section.

This plasma manages to combine exceedingly deep black levels with the potential for whites brighter than any other high-performance plasma available. Color accuracy is superb, if not quite reference level, and of course it exhibits the perfect off-angle and picture uniformity characteristics of the breed. Its video processing unfortunately requires you to make a choice between correct 1080p/24 film cadence and the deepest black levels, however, something you won't have to do with other TVs. One tertiary weakness is sound quality, while its 3D picture quality, aided again by superior light output, was outstanding.

51E550 equivalent for 2013 is 51F5500.  No expert reviews yet, since the experts are not too interested in lower end models.

There's one review at plasmatvbuyingguide, but it's a chump's review for the average consumer.  Definitely not for enthusiasts:

You mean F5500?  Sizes are 51, 60 & 64.

Local release will probably be 51 only, since the E550 of 2012 was available in 51" size only.

If you plan to buy an import, avoid the 60 and go straight to the 64.  They say the 60 is PenTile matrix again, same as the 60E550.

PenTile is a Samsung display matrix scheme.  Instead of the true red-blue-green subpixel scheme in a 1080p panel, it uses a red-green-blue-green subpixel scheme.

That's not more subpixels, that's actually fewer subpixels.  For every 2 pixels, Pentile has RGBG, instead of RGBRGB, giving you only 4 subpixels instead of the normal 6 subpixels.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PenTile_matrix_family

See specs on the E550 plasma.  It's clearly indicated that the 51 and 64 inchers are Full HD, while the 60 incher has a PenTile panel.

http://ramsaysmarthomes.ca/info/Samsung%202012%20Panel%20Chart.pdf

The footnote reads:

*Samsung’s Pentile Panel reproduces FHD-like experience utilizing sub-pixel rendering technology, making it 40% energy efficient over last year’s 59" comparable model.

Samsung describes PenTile as "Full HD-like," impliedly admitting that it is not Full HD.
