What settings do you guys use when linking the xtreamer to a crt? I tried connecting mine to a 29" crt and putol sya no matter what TV out setting I use.  Sorry po newbie :)

Got my xtreamer last friday and so far so good. Im not video/audio phile and just a regular joe so happy ako with the limited testing.

My only complaint for now on the xtreamer is the remote control. Overall, for me its not just as intuitive as your usual tv, dvd player remotes. I find myself pausing and looking for the buttons  that I need to use.

Set the Xtreamer to "NTSC" for a CRT.  That should do the trick.  I assume you're using the composite (RCA) cables.

I-set mo yung audio ng Xtreamer to 2-channel (instead of 5.1).  This should solve your problem.

You can also control volume through the remote control of the Xtreamer, in addition to using your TV's remote control.

There are lots of downloadable movie subtitles on the internet.  Just Google for the sites.

Firmware Ver 2.1 which is due end of November is supposed to implement a firmware-resident jukebox capability for both movies and music.  I still haven't seen how this is implemented, so I can't really say much about it.  Check out forum.xtreamer.net to follow its development.

Some members of the Xtreamer community are also working independently on a jukebox application.

There is an Xtreamer Music Jukebox (XMJ) beta which is still buggy - I suggest you don't waste your time on this.  Wait na lang for FW Ver 2.1 and see what it brings us.

You might want to search for 'XBMC Wide Banner Icons' too.  Starting with Xtreamer Firmware Ver. 2.0,
it is possible to implement these.

REALLY NICE!

Phlippine Section in Xtreamer Forum?

Would you consider opening up a Philippines section in the xtreamer forum? :)

I've been wondering if that would be a good move, especially since everybody here can communicate in English.  If we post in a Philippine section, we won't get to interact with the worldwide community.  If we need help or if we want to contribute, nobody will read our posts except kababayans.

Most of the "country" sections are for the non-English-speaking community.

Pangit din if we have a Philippine section and nobody posts there!

What do you think?

Yes, the Xtreamer can be set for 1080i output - no problem.

Anybody tried setting up the Xtreamer with a Bluray rom?

You will not be able to play a commercial (original) Bluray disc from an off-the-shelf USB Bluray Drive, unless Xtreamer decides to buy a Bluray license.  If your Bluray disc does not have any copy protection, then there will be no problem playing it back.

Search YouTube for "Xtreamer"; you'll see a couple of videos on this topic

Anybody tried setting up the Xtreamer with a Bluray rom?

I tried this briefly.  I shared a bluray rom in our local network, accessed the bluray files in the xtreamer and tried playing the files (.mxx is the extension, i forgot exactly) and it was quite good.  you need to install 'anydvd' to get around bluray copy protection.  I just tried this briefly to see if it is possible, trial version lang kasi 'anydvd' ko... but yes, it is possible to play a bluray disk directly.

jetro, you are a true-blue techie! Your method of accessing the BD is spot-on.
It's too bad that this solution requires a PC to host the bluray drive as well as a local area network as the conduit.

Whats NFS? and what is the RW option? sorry a medyo newbie. :D

NFS = Network File System (designed by Sun Microsystems)
RW = Read/Write

You can share Xtreamer-attached drives over your local area network, using SMB (Server Message Block) or NFS (Network File System) protocols.  SMB is a Microsoft-developed file-sharing protocol and is the 'default' for Windows shares. SMB file-sharing can be implemented on Ubuntu Linux and Mac OS X systems too.

NFS allows faster data transmission over the network than SMB; it is the 'default' Linux file-sharing protocol.  NFS file-sharing can be implemented on Windows and Mac OS X systems too.

You should be safe since you apparently haven't employed NFS sharing. Please upgrade to FW Ver 2.0.2 so that you won't be at risk in case you decide to implement NFS.

Note:  Streaming performance is improved when using NFS instead of SMB.  This is why you may want to consider NFS on our network

Was able to use the xtreamer 2 night now watching cartoons with my daughter and some tv series.

I noticed one problem, some of the videos I've watched the past 2 days have instances where they are "twitching". These "twitch" (sorry dont know the right term) came very fast,  blink of an eye fast. Currently it happens intermittently and only the video is affected, the audio is not. A scene will just goes berserk very very quickly... in dvd/cd terms, tumalon yung picture very very fast... dont know how to describe it but the video is just not flawless on cases you expect it to be. Is this what you call hdmi handshake issue? I did notice that the problem did not appear when I used the composite cables so for now Im thinking it has something to do with the hdmi cable/connectivity.

Currently at version 2.0.1 and have reset defaults just in case you might ask.

Sorry, newbie here and this is my first time to encounter such and have no previous experienced with hd.

Will appreciate any feedback/suggestion :) Thanks!

Hi! I am not aware of anybody who has experienced this "twitching" issue.  Can you provide more information?

  • What brand/model of TV?
  • Are you using an Audio/Video Receiver (AVR)?
  • Have you tried using a different HDMI cable?
  • Can you try connecting the Xtreamer to another TV?

FW Ver 2.0.2 has been released.  Please update your Xtreamer.

boss bitstream - my reply...
  • What brand/model of TV? - Panasonic 32x10
  • Are you using an Audio/Video Receiver (AVR)? - Nope. Xtreamer is connected directly to the tv via hdmi
  • Have you tried using a different HDMI cable? - Not yet, will try this tonight.
  • Can you try connecting the Xtreamer to another TV? - not yet. Although we only have one tv with an hdmi port. The others are crt  and since the problem is not occurring using composite connection Im not sure if its even worth testing it. As it is the problem does not occur when using composite cables on our lcd tv.

Will do further test tonight using a different cable. If you guys have other ideas do let me know :)

Care to share the partition info? And if any, the folders created by it?

Formatting will not create any sub-folders.  You have a free hand in creating and naming them as you wish.
