I have a vintage 6inch full range speaker driver that uses alnico magnets (a round magnet in a square enclosure). It got busted voice coil (rated at 3watts 8ohms). Can it still be recoiled?

kung napalitan nyo na with the same type of fuse yung nasira at nagkaron ng humming sound pagtapos, possible na may nasira na parts sa amp section. Pwede nyong dalhin sa amin para ma check kung anong sira, we don't charge anything naman for the diagnosis and we leave it to the owner kung gustong pagawa sa amin or hindi.

Nakakaawa ang sinapit ng jbl tweeter mo. Una hindi dapat ginamitan ng mighty bond para idikit ang dust cover kasi pag tinanggal mo yung dust cover para irewind yung coil (or whatever) siguardo mapupunit na yung cone sa sobrang dikit ng mighty bond. Hindi naman dapat ganyang kadikit ang kailangan kasi hindi naman ganung gumalaw yang cone (it hardly moves or vibrates when in use). Tapos tinambakan pa nila ng pandikit, hindi tuyloy maganda tignan. That is a trademark of Raon speaker repair. Anyway, kung nanaisin nyo eh pakidala lang po sa amin yung jbl tweeter nyo para magawan ng remedyo and will do our best para mabalik sa dati yung tunog at itsura. Maghahanap po kami ng kamukhang dust cover nyan pero yung cone eh gagawan na lang ng remedyo kasi walang nabibiling cone para sa tweeter much more yung ganyan na ganyan, unless na oorder po kayo sa JBL (if available pa sa ganyang model).

Hi, mojo. I have a pair of Pinnacle PN8+ (6 ohms) speakers that's around 15 yrs old. One of them has been buzzing, especially on deep bass signals, for several months now. Di ko lang pinapansin noon, pero lately, it's been bothering me more and more. When I touch the woofer, nawawala. Pag bitawan, naroon ulit. Wala naman akong napapansing butas sa mga materyales. What could be the problem? Can you fix this? How much do you guess this repair would be? Thanks.

i think the problem is the voice coil baka may putol or natanggal na pagka rewind. We can fix the problem. sir paki measure po yung diameter ng speaker nyo then yung rates is nasa first page of this topic.

Ready for pick-up na yung Optimus speakers nyo. We replaced the edge. Further test showed that the tweeters are not working, unfortunately voice coil of ribbon tweeters cannot be rewinded/repaired.

Sir, ano po kaya ang problem ng generic sub ko na nawawalan siya ng tunog after 15 min... tapos pagkapa ko sa likod sobra init. I think may IC doon na busted... mga magkano po? Generic speaker lang po ito pero may sentimental value po kasi ito sa akin at maganda ang tunog

Mga Sir, paano ba i-convert yung 4ohms na surround speaker into 8ohms? Ano po ba effect kung ang amps ay 8ohms then connect to 4ohms speakers?

Verify the handling capabilty of your amp before connecting 4ohms speakers, becoz in reality most speakers go down below their rated impedance that will send your amp to service. ::) ::)

Sir, just small concern. I experienced to hear a rewound woofer but the problem was the scretch sound inside audible only in low volume, but I'm afraid that the voice-coil maybe scratching to the shaft that eventually it get shorted?.... ::) haaay... ;) mahaba ang tanong ko... :D sir my apology... ;D

The "scretch sound" sound that you hear even in low volume is what we call "sayad". Possible cause of that are 1. the voice coil was not properly rewinded, wires overlaped. or 2. It was not properly centered prior to re-assembly. Yes, it is possible that it will get shorted because the voice coil and the magnet shaft will have contact, and when that happens the voice coil will get burned or your amplifier will get burned.

sorry for the very late reply. we're not into fabricating enclosures, ibang linya na po kasi yun. we're purely on speaker repair. Sometimes we do some minor repairs on baffles and replacing the cloth cover but not fabricating enclosures.

Sir, I think the problem is not in the speakers, but the amp itself (enclosed in sub box). Ayaw mag-on e. What may be the problem? Tinignan ko yung loob (tingin lang ;D), wala namang sunog na parts, at buo pa yung fuse. Hmmm... ???

I learned that you can also take a look with amp problem.
I have a Sansui AUD-55F amplifier. I can't use at the meantime
due to the following:
1. the L-R balance need to be set at 2 o'clock to strike the balance
between L and R channel
2. There are times that the left channel will be suddenly out, need to
increase the volume to hear from it again. Could it be a loose
connection from some components or is it a pot already failing?
3. need to replace rail capacitors also, bulging na.

Heres mine. Its a B&W 602 S3.
Problems
- Tweeter all punctured and damaged. Still working though but i wanted to restore its looks.
- The enclosure has lots of dirt and smudge. Including paint stains
- The grill keeps falling off
These speakers were not valued by my wifes father and it seems that he doesn't know anything about speakers and thats what made it this way. Plus, it seems someone intentionally poked the tweeters.

The left woofer also has a small tear but it doesn't affect the sound. I believe the B&W surround is different from ordinary surround. Do you think we need to have this fixed? The surround of a B&W seems to be more rigid and solid. Unless of course you have one exactly like it.

My Bose 301 took a major tumble and the cabinet has split at the seams and the woofer now croaks like a frog. Perhaps a diagnostic is in order? Can you check them out or should I bring directly to Bose service center? I Would rather have the personal touch then the corporate one and save some peso at the sme time.

Sir I have a defective Altec lansing speaker specifically the model ACS 45.1. Pag nakaplug sya naka-on naman ang lights kaya lang yung 2 button na connected sa electronic volume controller ay di gumagana. Di ko malakasan at mapahina volume. So walang lumalabas na sound pag nakabit sa stereo device. At di ko rin ma-off using that controller.
Nung tumingin ako sa Net madalas raw pala nasisira ang electronic volume controller nito yung model na PT2256. Medyo rare ang IC chip na ito kasu meron naman daw replacement na eksakto ang TC9235p. Tiningnan ko ang unit kong speakers mismo. Nagcheck me using VOM ok naman ang resistance so di pa wasak mismo ang speaker coils ko. Wala rin me nakitang mga bloated capacitors or mga blown up fuse and resistors.
Ang tanong ko ay gumagawa ba kayo nito? How much kaya abutin?

Probably fungus or mold. You can wipe it off using damp cloth. Some chemicals might damage the rubber edge. Try looking at hardwares located at the mall for anti-fungal/mold creams/oil.

1. Pag nagrecone di ba palit ang cone of different structure and strength therefore nagbabago ang tunog para sa mga matatalas na tenga ng audiophile tama ba?
2. ang surround ay foam. May posibilidad na iba ang flex (ewan ko kung tama ang tawag doon) ang ibat ibang klase (at specs) ng foam kaya nagbabago din ang action ng coned therefore nagbabago din ba ang character ng tunog?
3. Pag tela ang surround at pinalitan ng foam, mag babago din ang character ng speaker?

I got these old Polk audio monitor speakers from a friend. It worked perfectly when we tested it, but when I took it home ayaw na tumunog ng maayos yung isang speaker, somehow it got stuck, I did some research nabasa ko na the voice coil could be stuck, ayaw niyang gumalaw. I also read that it could result from shipping and handling. Biniyahe ko kasi sa eroplano. Babalik ba ito on it's own or kailangan nang irepair? Tried pushing the cone in a little bit pero ayaw gumalaw. Help!

I blew my 10" sub speaker. I plugged a 110v amp to 220v. The amp is still ok but I think the speakers got burned or the spider was damaged and I seem to have lost the dust cap. How much would it cost to fix this kind of damage?

Got a call from your man Paul. He asked about the speakers problems other than the obvious cracked cabinet....I mentioned a blown woofer as it croaks like a frog on high volume. I also asked to run a complete diagnostic. Have you guys determined the issues with those Bose 301's.

Paul again told me that the only problem with my speaker was the cracked cabinet. It was the reason for the croaking and the mexican hat dance due to the vibrations. Speaker Doctor, I have a subwoofer for repair!
Its an active NEC subwoofer that I bought in 1989 during my first trip to Singapore. It is a downfiring 12 in woofer with crossover control. I used to install it together with my Mini component Aiwa back when we dont have the 2.1 channel yet. I used it about a trillion times at home full blast and naturally the Aiwa mini- compo survived while the SW conked out. So the transformer of the speaker was re-wounded several times until at one time after tumigil ulit siya this crazy technician repaired it by placing a new subwoofer with a different Ohm rating. I havent been able to fully experience again the real lows of this subwoofer (up to 25 Hz) since the speaker was replaced. So ginarahe ko muna ito for about 10 years and bought just last year a HT in a box courtesy of 5th ave. When I fixed my bodega last year also I discovered napatakan ang NEC SW ng tubig and the particle board casing on top of this elegant looking SW ay nag-expand na. The piano finish top( can be elegantly used as a coffee table top) is still shiny, pero halos bulok na ang upper housing under this laminated top bec of the water seeping in. Can you help me in the repair of the water damage and replacing the subwoofer with the appropriate rating and brand? I feel the speaker maybe sira na rin. Just wanna make it ready for future use.

Hindi sakit ng 301 crackling sound. Nadidinig lang yan pag hindi nakadikit or natanggal dikit ng cabinet o kaya pag may sira ang speaker. Ano nabutas sa 301 mo? Yung cone? If that's the case re-cone gagawin dyan. Mapapalitan yan pero not the original Bose cone. If you want the orig cone you can ask the Bose country distributor to order a recone kit and if you prefer kami na magdidikit.

anyway, i opened up the crossover network and saw that 2 capacitors(C6 & C24) are really fried...
JBL Singapore has given me the correct value/rating of the caps and schematics of the Xover network for the subs.....
last week, based on the info from JBL, i was able to buy the same specs of caps from sim lim tower,the equivalent of raon here......i DIY'ed it but medyo unsuccessful on my part coz when i turned on the amps it keeps on firing and making those big booming sounds continously.....i do not have the complete equipment like the tester.....i suspect there are other things that was damaged like the resistors.....i tested the woofers and lucky na rin coz they were not damaged......
i visited my friend last night at his humble home somewhere in Metro-Manila... he was so happy that SpeakerDoctor restored well his huge Infinity floorstanders (USA made)... he let me power it up... wow !!! at very minimal volume (7:30 to 8:00 knob position) i already appreciated LF octave with very good mids&highs and we only sourced FM tuner signal.. my friend said he was charged minimal for a wonderful job !!! 8)

Sir nagrerepair ba kayo ng Paradigm PS-1000? Disturbing kase ung sound pag lumalakas, parang may sumasabit sa loob. Hindi sya masyadong naririnig pag music, pero pag movies especially during explosive scenes dun mo na maririnig. Parang pagsumabog ung scene sumasabog din sub ko. I can't see kung saan ung sira kase hindi ko alam kung paano idismantle ung sub so hindi ko makita ung speaker.

Got my Paradigm PS-1000 speaker, tried using it yesterday mejo matigas pa ung tunog but I think that's normal. Overall I'm happy sana lang walang lumabas na sira after several days/weeks.

Yes nakapag palit na po kami ng surround ng JBL creature using improvised material (made of foam). Haven't heard of sound difference from the owners. Charged is Php 250 per speaker.

Sir, ganyan din ata problema ko sa subwoofer speaker ko, I have a Yamaha Sw-100 subwoofer with two 7 inch driver (japan surplus rated at 70 watts rms, according to specs sa google japanese website pa nga). Pag movie tapos naka DTS ung sound (loud and clear), pag nag peak yung signal, example may sumabog sa movie, may naririnig ako na strange sound (sayad), kasi when I open the grille and look at the speaker (driver) sobra ang ang excursion ng speaker,..,pero pag audio cd ang source ok naman. Ano kaya problema nito??? Kailangan kaya i-center din? May kaibigan ako na may ganito rin Yamaha SW-100, same din ang complain nya...
hi! gud day sir benedict! sir, do you fix wharfedale diamond 10.1? sad to say, kaka-1 yr pa lang po nito sa akin last oct 29 when i started to hear annoying sound coming from one of the speakers lalo na pag medyo ma-bass ang sound. pure 2 ch and sound listening lang po ang gamit ko dito. i tried switching the speakers pero same result. i cant really identify how does the "annoying sound" sounds like pero distorted ang sound lalo when i start to increase the volume at dito ko lang sa isang speaker na ito naririnig 'yung sound. i also tried testing it using two different amplis ( i have denon pma390 and pma680r) same result pa rin po. sir, medyo limited ang time ko to bring them to your shop. possible po ba na mabisita po ninyo ito sandali for you to be able to diagnose kung anung problema nito? dito lang po ako sa makati near rockwell-power plant mall. thanks and more power! godspeed!

Hello doc ask ko lang if you can return the deformed tweeter (soft dome) back to its original shape? Di naman totally pushed-in pero may partial pang "uka" paloob. Meron na rin kasing effect sa sound because of this. Thanks.

yung ALR driver (floorstander) and Denon surround speakers ko eh tukod or hindi na nagvi-vibrate...made the rookie mistake of connecting a 4ohms speaker (ALR) to my vintage NAD int amp designed for 8ohms speakers...sobrang eager kasi...pati yung NAD na-damage, nagsunog ng 3 resistors... :'( :'( :'(...ayung "nag-short" pati speakers...
pwede pa ba gawin ito or better to find a replacement drivers na lang?...these speakers are only for my HT project dyan sa Pinas sana...even my suking repair tech dito sa Singland eh told me na hindi na kayang gawin...

You can try to brushing it (soft to medium brush bristles) with water. Caution with the frame specially if its made of mdf kasi lolobo yun pag nabasa. Pero if it's a stain i suggest that you replace the cloth.

Sir yung textile dome tweeter ng wharfedale speaker ko nangangamoy sunog at saka mahina siyang tumunog than the other channel. Pero hindi naman siya totally dead..mahina lang yung sound output niya..Ano po kaya ang problema at pwede pa kayang maayos to? Sinubokan ko na palitan ng same specs na tweeter which is from my center channel speaker..pero mahina pa rin..

Sir, I have a Wharfedale 6.5" speaker na mahina tumunog kesa sa isang channel (bought it pre-owned), upon inspecting the driver closely it has traces that it was repaired already that the previous owner did not tell me, but recommended a voice coil replacement instead.
Anyway, im planning to bring it to your place this coming Saturday, will it be possible if you can restore the voice coil and bring back to its (near) original state? And should i also bring the other speaker for reference as well?

Here's the deal...
I have a JBL 1800Gti 18" subwoofer (circa 1990s) that has been in storage for years. Unfortunately, the one who stored it for me placed magazines and books on the cone. ??? Ouch! When I finanlly realized how it was stored, it was too late as the cone was resting at the lowest postion and did not pop back up when I took the magazines off. :(
I wanted to ask if it would return to the proper position if I hooked it up to an amp and used it or is this up for repair?
If the latter, what parts of the speaker would need repairing/replacing and how much would that cost?
Btw, I'm not sure what the current suspension material is, I don't think it is either rubber nor foam as it has 3 to 4 ridges on it and feels like paper that has been coated. Anyhow, I notice that you did not have 18" suspensions on your price list. What are my options if ever the suspension needs replacement?

Good Morning. Based on what you posted, the problem is the part called the spider.
"The spider is that yellowish/brown corrugated disk attached to the cone and voice coil at the base of the cone. It's major responsibility is to provide a restoring force, or spring, to the cone so that the cone can return to its normal resting position after being moved by the voice coil in response to an input signal. The spider is normally made of a bakelized or phenolicized fabric and has several corrugations."
Pressed to long makes it sink from its normal position.
The suspension your speaker has is made of cloth. If the suspension needs replacement (which i doubt it needs to be replaced, unless damaged) we'll try to find a similar one.

Was sorting out my bodega stuff and i found this SB-5 x 2 units. 'twas my dad's (R.I.P.+) and for sentimental reasons I am thinking of restoring the finish assuming it can still be repaired , if the speaker electronics are within economical repair and only if it will work as a speaker for an AVR.
I have tried plugging it to my cheap karaoke amp. Wired it to test and sound is still awesome! right works well, left needs fixing(tweeter only works), at when you move the knobs may static ka marinig
Need my Technics SB-5 checked, i have 2 and one is functionally working but may require some case repair but the other yung tweeter lang nag work.
Q: Can i use it as a temp front sa AVR?

I think it's not possible. The space provided for the voice coil is for single voice coil (2 layers). Making it dual voice coil (4 layers) will not fit on the space provided.

Mukhang mahirap remedyuhan yang nangyari sa tweeter mo. As far I know wala kaming mabibiling replacement na kasukat at kasya dyan. If we'll do some metal surgery on the tweeter there will be some marks. If ok lang sa yo pag ganun then we can give it a try but if not you can order the driver from the manufacturer or country distributor.

Good Morning. Pwede pa naman pong remedyuhan. Kung inanay ang eclosure pero buo pa ang crossover, speakers, terminal, port, cloth cover pwede kang magpagawa ng bagong enclosure na gayang gaya ang mga sukat (taas, haba, lapad) at mga butas sa karpintero mo. I suggest that you use a more solid wood than MDF. Hope this helps.

Good Morning. Based on what you wrote I think the woofer is off centered. I suggest re-centering it (voice coil wil not be rewinded). Charge for re-centering a 12" woofer is Php 800.

I have an old pair of Pioneer speakers SD-33 circa 90's. Due to it's age & wear & tear na rin siguro may mga butas na woofer cones nya both left & right channels. Wala naman kapak ako ma notice when listening to music but as a stop gap measure, tinakpan ko muna ng tape.
Kailangan ba papalitan yung buong woofer or puwede pa i-repatch somehow? If ever, kindly give me an estimate kung magkano magastos.

Good Morning. I think you did great when you applied the stop gap measure. As long as your speaker doesn't emit unusual sounds then it's ok. Tignan namin if uubra pa na irepair ang cone (by patching) sayang naman kasi, if kailangan na talagang palitan then the price depends on the replacement cone + labor.

Good Morning. By the looks of it hindi nga maganda pagkaka repair. Pag dating sa voice coil we can restore it sa orig na specs, ang hindi ko lang sigurado is pag dating sa cone. YUng pagkakadikit sa dust cap sobra sobra yung rugby kaya sigurado magkakaroon ng marka sa cone pag tinanggal yung sobrang dikit, pangalawa baka hiniwa yung cone ... yun ang mahirap kasi baka kailangan pati cone palitan.

1. ask ko lang kung madaling palitan ang speaker ng htib na naka 3 and 6ohms to 8 ohms. just in case may mabiling entry level na avr, ito na lang gagamitin kong speaker. tama ba voice coil rewind sorted na?
2. balak ko rin dagdagan ng drivers kasi binuksan ko at puwede pang dagdagan ng driver. ang tanong ko kung magkano kung mag dadagdag akong ng driver. will buy another speaker set sa second had market

Don't connect the tweeter directly to the receiver. Attach a 4 microfarad capacitor to the positive terminal of the tweeter before connecting it to the terminal of the receiver.

It became inferior to my wharfedale delta floor standing speaker. I need to lower the volume of my front to match the sound of my center. I would not recommend using chemicals as it might damage the rubber edge.

I'm very very happy and satisfied with the repairs! ;) :-) :-DI want to thank also sir Benedict and Mang Paul for restoring to its original form my Yamaha NS 555 tweeters and my JBL Control 5 tweeter. Both these speakers are back giving me crisp highs.

good morning sir...ako yung nagpagawa ng speaker audio nirvana brand last night sinubukan ko and ok naman siya...this morning ayaw na naman niya gumana...i did test sa ohmeter reading ng speaker ng gumagana was 007.7 and yung isang ayaw gumawa was 1.791 pinagpalit ko yung right to left na gumagana ok siya but if yung left to right ayaw bossing, ano kaya yung problem speaker kaya uli....thanks

Dalhin ko hopefully this wekend yung Pioneer speakers ko para ma diagnose mo. I'm still using it pero butas butas na ang woofers. Tinapalan ko lang ng duct tape, okay pa rin pero may sayad na sa mga medyo bass heavy na passages. Sana maremedyuhan pa. For sentimental reasons, I can't seem to part with them kaya pa repair ko muna instead of buying a new pair.

3. Sa picture ng speaker, aside from voice coil rewind, kailangan ng palitan ang dust cap na pinuno ng rugby, cone & spider na hiniwa, in short, yung basket lang ang hindi papalitan. Estimated cost is 3k.

I have an old 3 way Kenwood bookshelf speakers. It's connected to an old Denon amp.Yes sir, we can repair it. The coil of the tweeter and midrange was probably damaged due to the feedback.
My wife connected a karaoke (platinum).. And there was a great feedback from the microphone.
When i played music the next day. The mids and tweeter speakers ate not producing any sound. Only the woofer.

Ano po kaya ang pwede kong gamiting pandikit sa magnet?Sir you can use epoxy. But it needs to be centered when you re-glue the magnet otherwise mas mahirap na ayusin yan pag tumigas na pandikit at hindi na sentro.

i have a paradigm atom that sounds bad while the other one sounds just right. I was able to isolate that the issue was indeed in this one particular speaker.
