Sir, may i know when will this be available in the market? Is there any discount if I purchase it before it is release in the market? discount for group buy perhaps?  ;D ::)

Just in case there's a discount for group buy. I'm signing up for it.

Hi Triple-H-D,

Ask ko lang, What's the difference between the pre-order unit

Brite View Cinema Tube 3 in 1 unit Model BV-5005HD @ US$ 99.90 and
Amazon.com Brite-View BV-6000P 1080p HD Multimedia Player @ US$ 89.-

The GUI of the Brite-View is exactly the same with that of the HDpro. with 6 titles per page sa display. Sana they can improve on that and add more titles sa display and sana buo yung length of title sa screen like those of PCH and egreat.  :)

Post by: nogie on Sep 20, 2009 at 10:10 AM
I emailed brite-view CS to inquire more about their product including the difference between BV-6000 & BV5005HD, they gave me this link:

Is CinemaTube Available for Pre-order on Amazon for $89?
The short answer is “No.” If you’re asking this question, you probably saw this on Amazon.

We apologize for the confusion – by the look itself, it does look a lot like the CinemaTube. Heck, it bears the same brand name (brite-View)!

(The CinemaTube has the product name, “CinemaTube”, on the box, though.)

However, the BV-6000P is a pure HD media player without networking features.

It does not have a LAN. Therefore, it does not stream videos. It does not download torrents. Users of the BV-6000P will not be able to enjoy some of the entainment/education content we provide in the future. That’s why it’s priced a bit lower.

So if you’re like me, you must be excited about all these new media players available in the market. There so many to choose from now! And sometimes, you want to introduce them to your friends and family, or give one away as a gift.

I think the CinemaTube would be a great “gift” to yourself if you want to stream YouTube, Hulu or Netflix, and download movie/music sometimes. The BV-6000P would be a great gift, say, for your mom, if she just wants to watch a movie every once in a while or look at the pictures from the Alaska cruise trip your dad and her had together – on TV.

Other important details:

The CinemaTube will only be available through online channels and through e-tailers. We take care of any service/refund/return through [email protected].

The BV-6000P is, however, imported by another agent (that’s why BV-6000P is not seen on www.brite-view.com) and may become available in retail stores later. We would not be able take care of the customer service for BV-6000P at [email protected]. Please see the place you buy it from for customer service.

You can still email us at [email protected] if you have any questions. We’d love to hear from you.

@ shiranui and frootloops - with regards to the availablity here in the philippines. It will approximately be delayed by a month from the US release

@ spoon - We will officially unfold tomorrow the official promo for the CinemaTube. abang abang lang sir  ;D

@ essence - the Briteview 6000P model doesnt have networking capabilities, its made purely for playback purposes only. The 5005 model has networking capabilities. So you can connect to the internet with it. We will be releasing only the 5005 here, of course we all want the one with networking capabilities ;D

@ramgos - Hi sir, if there are updates or developments with regards to modifying the GUI, I will inform it to you right away. Actually the CinemaTube originally had YouTube on their networking functions. But somehow google/youtube heard about it and apparently didnt want their website to be on the CinemaTube coz it violated their "terms of services". So they had youtube removed "for now"  ;D

@jackryan - for now it is still not available. But knowing the Realtek Chip's capability, I'm sure that they will be available soon.

@darth_rye - We will make the official announcement tomorrow.... wala kasing office ngayon ;) but i can assure you, it will be an exciting promo:)

Here are the specs pala for the CinemaTube

You forgot to include the following restrictions that is posted on the website.

"Notes

   1. Those media formats not indicated as "Supported Formats" cannot be guaranteed run properly on the CinemaTube. For example, under "WMV", only "WMV9" is supported but not "WMV7/8".
   2. Media formats that can be supported but with limitation:
      --M-JPEG:support up to 640x480x30p
--FLV(h.263): 352x288(maybe higher; no testing material to confirm)
      --RMVB:support up to 720p
--the 7.1-channel surround sound can be decoded, but only downmixed and output to 2 channels.
   3. Media files protected by DRM are not supported with current software version.
   4. Hard drive format not supported with current software version: HFS (Mac)
   5. Only media files located on the USB storage device attached to the BV-5005HD can be added to the playlist. Users cannot add media files located on the remote PC or through UPnP support. "

Will all the issues above be applicable to the units sold here?
How will the warranty be applied here and how long?
Is there a physical store location that we can go to to get defective units fixed? I'm hoping somewhere in Ortigas as I live in QC.
If I connect a USB wifi dongle to the USB port, will I be able to connect to my home Wifi network? My PC is located in the next room so its a hassle to put down cable.
How is the heat? The location I will be using this in does not have an Air-conditioner, so can you assure us that it will not overheat if I use it for 16Hrs continuously, everyday.
Other players had issues with continuing from pause or rewinding or fast forwarding, has this issue been addressed?
Does it have any issues if I start playing a movie and then move the time bar, say to the 25th minute of the movie? Some player are said to have issues with stuff like that.
Does it have a browser so I can surf the net without the use of a PC?
Can you give us a PQ sample, is it as good or better than WDTV HD and HDpro?
Can it play RAW audio formats like flac?
Can it play Internet radio?
Can I make a custom playlists so that I can simply choose several movies or music then just play all of them in succession or shuffled?
Can I make and install custom applications? If so, what programming language does it use? Does it have an application development kit?

If you can keep the price about 6000 then sama ako sa group buy na rin. Also please include the vertical stand like the CinemaCube has, please.

Sorry for all the questions, I'm just really excited and curious about NMTs and this one in particular since its seems to be within my budget range.

TIA

Triple H-D, do you have a demo unit that any of pinoydvd user can test? The HDPro has a long list of orders already because of the good feedback from those who has it, like me :)  If somebody experienced with various NMTs can confirm how good the CinemaTube performs, then for sure dami magoorder.

Ows? haha basta bibilhin nyo yung dalawang models ok yun.  Kasi dyahe to backout once you sign up.

Ako kasi dun nalang sa tested na model and I prefer one with internal HD. Malamang though this performs almost the same as the HD Pro since they use the same chip. And this is cheaper a bit so it is an attractive option! Magkakatalo nalang yan sa PQ, built, and GUI vs HD Pro.

The Cinematube 5005 user manual states that the unit allows network file sharing. Does this mean we can copy/delete/move file from one drive/folder to another and vice-versa?  ???

Btw, the HD-Pro allows the copy function and might make me think twice what model to buy or to just buy both... hehe.

Thanks for the prompt reply. Last question, it doesn't show in its specs  and aside from it not being capable of networking? but does the 6000P handles MKV?

Thank you for all the responses. I will try to answer all of the questions here whether relevant or irrelevant sa CinemaTube. hehehe.

@disturbed-For now, we only have limited units, as we are also conducting test on it (to make sure its really really good). We are in talks now with some of the major PC stores in the Philippines.

@macdon - I know your frustration sir mac, as I have a friend who has a 60inch LCD tv who can't use a NMT kasi MAC user ;D We're testing it now just to make sure there are no bugs on the new firmware.

@ditoy_eagle - For now, we only have 2 demo units. The other one is being tested while the other one is with a magazine publication. We will be shipping in 5 more unit by next next week if possible. so we're willing to lend one unit to a pinoydvd who can make a review for us here ;)

@bluebeard - the answer is yes 8)

@disturbed - yes, brite-view is quite active sa avsforums. And they are very active in terms of releasing new firmwares

@jazzyjake - Thank you sir for answering on my behalf , truly appreciate it :-* hahaha. In any case, will you be willing to test out the CinemaTube once the 2nd batch of demo comes in? Just to show my appreciation for helping me out in answering. hehe

Brader Jake, magka-iba daw yung 6000P and 3-1. Just confirming lang with TRIPLE H-D since baka kulang yung nasa ibang site. Maybe some doesn't need the networking so the playback alone will do, so the 6000P is a best buy kung MKV capable siya.

@frootloops & nogie- for now, only the networking one will be available in the market, which is the BV-5005, if there is enough demand for the BV6000, then maybe we can consider it.

@nogie- If sir barrister is willing then we're good to go! test na! haha

Hi Disturbed, the Egreat jumps 10% - 90% by a single press of the remote button...Hindi automatic of course.

I have been checking the specs of the "similar" looking CinemaTube in Amazon; the one that costs $89. The specs posted in Amazon are quite iffy especially in terms of playback capability.  Parehong pareho lang ba ang ang playback functions between that model 6000 something I think and this one with network functions?

Thanks!

Sana nga ma-verify because I have the chance to get this from Amazon until next week, if that Amazon model can actually handle MKV.   Kaso puro disclaimer ang posted details.  I have no need for networking and torrent functions.

The difference BV6000P and BV5005 is this and i quote "BV-6000P is a pure media player only, apart from the torrent download and the UPNP feature (network features) which BV-5005 can provide, they are essentially the same". Hi Triple H-D, Im not trying to put down this product.  In fact, I am very interested hence Im investigating as much as I can before deciding which of the new players in the market is the most suitable for my needs.  Plain and simple, I need the most powerful one in terms of playback.  Hence, your feedback would be very helpful.

As you know, NTFS HDD is a MUST for storing high def movies.  How's your test units performing so far?  What kind of files have you tested? (please dont mention the titles but technical info (video bit rate, audiostream, etc.) would be appreciated.  Thanks.

Ang lapit nyo sa bahay ko (Leon Guinto, near Padre Faura). If you want, I could host the EB. Ok rin sa akin Saturday. We would use a 133" diagonal screen and Sony VPL-VW100 projector. This way, kita talaga ang difference in picture quality. Kapag small screen kasi, paminsan d mo mapansin differences. I also have an egreat 31b and a WDTV so we could compare the 3.

But this would be a very informal EB. No blind test. Magulo yun.

Hi all, thanks for all the questions and I'll get back one-by-one in just a bit. Just want to annouce that the latest firmware (version 500510099161) available on our website (the "Support" page) has made HFS+ drives compatible, and fixed the problem with NTFS drives.

Here's a detailed list:

1. Support HFS+ filesystem.
2. Support video resume playback.
3. Support AAC 6CH.
4. Remove L/R option from OSD.
5. Improve video playback performance for NTFS hard drive.
6. Subtitle size and position indication.
7. Step by step to use setup wizard.
8. Support external subtitle for MKV files.

mukhang ok na sa bagong firmware

I am wating there for someone to test it with an HD audio

Subject: Re: Brite View BV6000p Vs Cinematube 3 In 1

Dear Customer,

BV-6000P is carried by our reseller in US who will be responsible for customer service.  As of now, it's pretty much the same as CinemaTube without networking feature. However, we won't continue to develop or improve BV-6000P as we do with the CinemaTube, because it's a trial case for the reseller.

I interpret this na malabo ang FW update sa 6000 model.  That's fine if the current product is already 100% reliable in terms of playback.   If not, oh well.  It seems the 5005 model is the "safer" choice.

@ sir streetsmart - I'm ok with that ;D I can actually bring the unit to you if you'd like to test it out first. PM me nalang.

@ sir klapangan - I've already talked with some of the more "senior" members of Pinoydvd. Will be asking them to review the product ;)

@ sir macdon - we'll be testing the CinemaTube this weekend with a mac :) we'll update you

@ clondalkin - i do agree with you on the constant FW update on the BV-5005 as compared to the 6000.

@ sir jerix - we've already tested it with linux formatted hard drive. No problem with it ;)

Mpeg2: Ok / Max Pixel 1920×1080p,Max bitrate 60m Bytes
H.264: Ok / Max Pixel 1920×1080p,Max bitrate 40m Bytes

These have been actually tested by you?  No disrespect but are you sure of the video bitrates?  Ive seen 35-45mbps video bitrates for 40-50GB BD rips.   H.264, rarely anything above 20mpbs.

@Sir Clondalkin - our US counterpart have tested all of this. As for us, we've tested it on the usual files that have been circulating around here, and there has been no problem with regards to playback. If you have files that you want to check out. We can organize a product demo for it.

Thanks for the clarification Triple H-D.  I'll wait for further feedback from your planned EB.  Sana matuloy agad yung product tests nyo.

Yeah, definitely planning to test this model (and the HD-Pro) with some of the files I keep, pero sa Xmas vacation pa yon.

All the best!

hi i've been looking for an nmt and asked the same query in another thread, anyway, can this directly save a downloaded torrent to an external hard drive? also, can i share the files over the network, let's say i have another nmt at my bedroom but my hard drive is connected to this in my living room, can the files be shared and detected?

thanks

This is an open invitation to Pinoydvd members.

I would like to invite everyone here to come and check the unit out for themselves. Sir Streetsmart has been kind enough to offer his place as the venue to test the CinemaTube as he has a home theatre with a huge 133" diagonal screen and a Sony VPL-VW100 projector ;D In order to properly check the PQ that the CinemaTube can produce.

As sir streetsmart suggested, the scheduled EB will be this Saturday, Oct. 3 at 3pm. MAX people that we can accomodate will be around 8. Venue is Leon Guinto, near Padre Faura, Ermita, Manila. Snacks and drinks will be provided. Pero dala na rin kayo ng food para busog tayo lahat ;D

Kindly PM me or post on the list below if you want to reserve a sit

No real tests. Just watch this NMT and then compare it to other NMT's. Very informal. It's not a blind test. Very subjective. And then get the subjective views of those who watched.  :)

My receiver can decode HD audio but I don't have any files with HD audio. If someone can bring an external hdd with these files, that would be great.

Yes, natuloy. Mini-EB lang naman. Dumating si Triple H-D and his partner. Then Iiinas, saladmaster, essence and myself.

I'd prefer that the other guys post their impressions first. We spent a lot of time with the Cinematube and the first impression you will get is that it is super-duper fast, compared to eGreat and Popcorn.

will post pictures later.

as sir mark said. the unit is fast! and i mean really fast. from turning it on, its up and running in 5 seconds. recognized two 1 tb hdd in less than 10 seconds. but i guess the hd pro will do the same. one thing that struck me is the unit is made in taiwan and not the usual made in china like the other nmts/media player like popcorn, egreat, hdpro, kaiboer and the likes.

just to put things in perspective. talking to the sellers (triple hd and partner), before they decided to go with this brand/unit. they have inquired from a couple of other manufacturers (china made mostly) and as they rightly justified, briteview owners really made an impression to them, it seems to be not a fly by night company, and to launch the product in the usa says a lot (we know how they protect their consumers there, so very narrow latitude to make a mistake).

in terms of how it played, it played all files we throw at it. and one feature i really liked is, if you have a syabas based nmt (popcorn, egreat, kaiboer, hdx) you can have those and just attach a lan cable from the nmt to the cinematube, and the cinematube will recognize the nmt with hdd as part of its network! the possibilities here is that let's say your nmt is in one room (with hdd connected) then your cinematube is in your ht room, with a lan cable connected you can now play those files in the hdd that is attached to the nmt. nice feature. but again, i think its a feature hdpro can also replicate.

in terms of pq, we tested the egreat played and cinematube played movie, to be honest very little difference, negligible in my opinion. so for me, whichever unit you choose (hdpro or cinematube) you will end up a winner. it all boils down to cost. its like do you pay the extra 1000 pesos to get the fan, the internal harddrive compartment, sd card slot and having two digital output (coax and toslink) or you go 1000 pesos cheaper without all those but does the same thing basically. your choice....  ;D

i would say the egreat. (but just to clarify. we use the inputs of the egreat to connect the cinematube, so in essence its using the egreat's calibrated settings. that is why its hard to comment on pq and to be honest as i said its very little.

i think we can also wait for sir mark's comment.

I agree. The egreat seemed to have better pq (better grayscale, especially in dark areas; fuller colors). But many times, you get this perception because the source was not properly calibrated. So I would say that we need more inputs from people.

In any case, I would agree that the difference is very slight and in most cases, people would not notice any difference at all.

Actually, yes and no. There was a small glitch during the testing. Audio disappeared.

I have experienced the same thing with the HDPro, with both my set-up and then with the TV of my dad. In all cases, I used HDMI for both video and audio. In order to fix the audio, you need to do some silly thing like change the setup of the audio and then change it back to the original.

In the HDPro thread, you can see that at least one other guy has had a similar experience, also because he used HDMI for both video and audio. For the HDPro of my dad, I connected video via HDMI and audio via RCA stereo and it finally works fine.

I suspect that there is something wrong with the firmware for HDMI audio. It's not stable.

Also, how much heat does it generate? Is the heat levels bearable?

i would say the egreat.

In any case, I would agree that the difference is very slight and in most cases, people would not notice any difference at all.

thank you for the info sir mark and sir iiinas :)

Question, eto ba'y siguradong pareho ang format dun sa mga full BD rips na nakukuha?   Very rarely na yung uploaders of these type of full length films will provide samples, unlike sa MKVS.  And I dont know if the ripping process they go through is the same method used to create trailers.

ok sir mark will do that  :)

sir Clondalkin I am not sure..this demos are m2ts files and the HD audio are only 10s-1min long..for the test I just want to check if it can bit stream this HD audio properly..

I have no mkv file that have lossless audio or I don't even know where I can source it.  I did not even know that there are files out there that have this format.  Maybe BD ISO is another good test material but i don't have that too.

I want to test it out since If I want to upgrade my NMT, It need to play the lossless or even bitstream the audio properly..sayang ang AVR ko eh.. :D

In my view, the playback time of the file doesn't matter. Even if it is only a minute long, as long as the AVR recognizes it as Dolby TruHD or DTS-MA, that means that the player can handle lossless audio.

HD audio bale ang main concern mo?  I have to agree with Streetsmart.  Doesnt matter how short the clip is as long as the AVR recognizes the HD soundstream passing through from the NMT.

But my concern is, these HD audiostream comes with video having bitstream of like 40mbps that you play/decode continuously for around 2 hours - that's 2x the heaviest 1080p mkvs you can find.  It's an ultra-marathon and not just a sprint.   So far, it's very frustrating to handle the combined very high bitstream video and high def audio with my PC but allegedly, the Egreat can play it well.  I'd like to believe that blindly but then based on my experience with the 31B, it cant even match with a PC in terms of playback of heavy mks - so could it handle even heavier pure BD rips better than a PC?

If you are patient and want to be sure, can you wait until I visit Manila this Xmas?   Cant wait no?   ;D  Otherwise, 1080p DTS1.5mpbs files should be fine with NMTs.

Pero if you really want to test this player, upuan mo ng dalawang oras and dont rely on a few minutes of demo.

Point well taken. Which means that a quick test of lossless audio would tell us that the player is capable of handling it but if you want to know if the player can do this in a stable manner, you may need to watch an entire movie. Or several movies.  ;D ;D

But frankly ... based on the blind test we did last year, I really don't think there's much difference between lossless and lossy audio for movies, unless you are watching a concert. Therefore, I'm personally not that excited about this. Ubos pa ang capacity ng hard drive mo.

Very true. Those data that are lost during compression(for lossy HD audio of course) are the ones inaudible to the naked ear.  ;)

For video, it's a different matter.

Yes Sir!  I mean before anyone allots 40-60GB of the hard drive space for one BD rip, siguraduhin nyo muna na kayang mabuo yung panonood ng smooth and stable.   ;)

I know that for a movie a stress test is required but yun nga I don't have any source yet..just want to make sure that this product can do it

normally what size does a movie with lossless audio have? when you say BD rip movie..is this BD iso? or converted to mkv?

30-60GB ang normal range.

Kung walang HD audio, meron around 20GB-25GB.

Usual format is m2ts streams.

BD iso is different. I think it's a transcoded version. Some people do that to make the file compatible with their players - based on my readings, they can manage to maintain the HD audiostream but Im not sure if they can maintain the IQ of the pure BD rip.

Iba rin ang mkv.

BD ISOs are simply data direct from the Bluray disc(BD Headers included), meaning you can write it to a BD if you have a BD writer and play it on a BD player. Similar to installer ISOs wherein you can write it to a blank disc and it can be used as an installer just like the original disc. The only difference perhaps is the security feature of the BD(im not sure of this), which maybe is removed in the process.

m2ts and the likes are ripped video/audio stream from the data packets of the Bluray disc(BD Headers not included)

So in essence they are the same when it comes to PQ and AQ. It just depends on the decoder/display/renderer used.

i posted somewhere that the reason why the gui are similar for the three realtek players (hdpro, cinematube and soon to come egreat r1) is because the developer of the firmware is realtek itself (the chip company), so i gues its not open source.

Thanks Burnikulski.  So the main objective of BD iso is simply to play a back-up BD-R disk?  Can you mount it to a disk emulator like DVD iso?  Thanks ulit!

Sounds to me like the difference between Dolby TruHD/DTS-MA vs. lossless multi-channel LPCM. The process is different but the end result is exactly the same. Is this right?

pq and sq may not be different. but one big difference will be once media players will have the ability to play bd isos (popcorn c-200 is rumored to be able to do this). you can actually use the menus and added features of the whole bd ripped. i think the m2ts files cant do this (correct me if im wrong).

thats why the clamor to be able to play bd isos is very high.

I read from a firmware update of the MED8ER NMT (HD-Pro counterpart) that they will have this function soon..other realtek NMTs have this too..check the egreat r1.

I am planning to rip din kasi BDs kaya I want to have this feature too..

Thanks Burnikulski.  So the main objective of BD iso is simply to play a back-up BD-R disk?  Can you mount it to a disk emulator like DVD iso?  Thanks ulit!

Essentially, yes. I'm not sure about the emulators though.

Sounds to me like the difference between Dolby TruHD/DTS-MA vs. lossless multi-channel LPCM. The process is different but the end result is exactly the same. Is this right?

This might be a different thing sir, because afaik, these are different formats. - i think i got this wrong.  ;D

I think, BD uses VC-1 for video encoding, and this is a derivative of MPEG2, i think. m2ts means Mpeg2 Transport Stream, so basically the 2 streams are the same in the video packets sense of it. This means that you can use the m2ts to reencode to another type of media like DVDs and the software that you use to reencode it to DVD will add DVD specific headers so that the standard DVD players will recognize it as a DVD. Same thing when you reencode it to BD, the software will add BD specific headers for it to be recognizable as a BD in standard BD players.

pq and sq may not be different. but one big difference will be once media players will have the ability to play bd isos (popcorn c-200 is rumored to be able to do this). you can actually use the menus and added features of the whole bd ripped. i think the m2ts files cant do this (correct me if im wrong).

thats why the clamor to be able to play bd isos is very high.

Precisely sir, because m2ts does not include the BD headers. So in theory, m2ts files are smaller than BD ISOs.

I posted the demo HD audio files in avs forums and they tested it..

from blueribb

Quote
I downloaded a file called:

hd_dolby_bit_harvest_lossless.m2ts
specs: Dolby TrueHD 7.1

Results:

Video played very choppy (streamed from my pc). No Audio played and error message in green said: "Unknown Audio Format"

I'm downloading and trying another in a few minutes.

Edit: The second file (DTS-HD MA 7.1) was even choppier (video) with no audio again.
Edit: Both files play "almost" perfectly on my pc with excellent audio.

Quote
Second attempt:

I placed 2 files on a USB flash drive and played them via HDMI (raw audio) to a brand new AV Receiver (Yamaha RX-V765) which does handle TrueHD and DTS-HD MA.

Both files play the video very smoothly using the USB flash drive. File #1 plays with NO audio and green error message at top of screen: "Unknown Audio Format". File #2 plays no audio on 8 out of 10 tries with no error message. Two tries resulted in perfect audio but only the DTS LED lit on my receiver - no HD MA light.

File #1: hd_dolby_bit_harvest_lossless.m2ts (Dolby TrueHD 7.1) These 2 files were from the source mentioned in previous posts.
File #2: hd_dts_orchestra_long_lossless.m2ts (DTS-HD MA 7.1)

Sorry medyo delayed ang reply, been quite busy since Monday. Anyways here are the updates on the CinemaTube/ Realtek 1073 chip.

•   We’ve tested the Cinematube on a MAC formatted Hard drive (HFS) and its working well
•   Have tested External Dvd Rom to play dvd movies and it worked well
•   Have tested ISO (dvd rip) file and its playing well (the menus are displayed)
•   Have tested the reliability of making a playlist, working well, no issue on that
•   Cinematube is now compatible with Windows 7

Now for the 2 issues

•   Can this player bitstream HD audio Dolby TrueHD and DTS-MA via HDMI so that my AVR can decode it?

--> Dolby TrueHD, Yes! if you set the audio output to “raw” then CinemaTube bitstreams Dolby TrueHD to AVR.

--->DTS-MA (7.1 CH), Partially! if you set the audio output to “raw” then CinemaTube bitstreams DTS (6.1 CH) to AVR. So here's the tricky part: even if you set the output to “raw”, CinemaTube downmixs 7.1 to 6.1 to AVR.

( these are the ones tested by our US counterpart, but we will still test it here to confirm)

•   With regards to the “Handshake” problem of the HDMI

We have tested this a few times. Now, there is no issue with regards to the audio and video being in sync. Lagi naman siya sabay. The problem that we encountered is “sometimes” when you forward/rewind the media and resume it, the audio will disappear. To fix the audio you need to do some silly thing like change the setup of the audio and then change it back to the original (courtesy of sir Streetsmart). Now this seems to be a problem with all Realtek 1073 chipsets, we have contacted the manufacturer and they will update us on when they can release a firmware on this one. Will keep you posted on this people.

Hope this helps

Triple H-D was very kind enough to lend me the cinema tube for testing. Here are my comment on the Cinema Tube.

Positives:

1.) The Unit is very light weight and it has a very sleek design.

2.) Boot up time is quick less than 5 seconds, Recognizing the external Hard Disk is also fast approximately less than 10 seconds.

3.) I Connected the Cinema Tube to our router and I access the files on my Cousin NMT and the files play smoothly. (my cousin NMT is at Third floor and I'm in 5th floor)

4.) The PQ is superb. Very little or almost no difference with the PQ on my cousin NMT.

5.) DTS Downmix to Stereo

6.) GUI is very simple and very easy to navigate.

7.) Cinema Tube is very popular in the US and I think the support for this product will be very good. The Brite-View staff are also very active in AVSFORUM and they listen to the request of their customer to improve their product.

8.) It supports HFS file system of MAC and it can read the files smoothly.

9.) You can create your own playlist for your favorite movies. you can also add the files in the network to your playlist.

10.) You can search, fast forward and rewind using the time seek function.

11.) Torrent downloading is very smooth and easy to navigate.

Negatives:

1.) There is no coaxial output for those who need it.

2.) Minor glitches on the audio when fast forwarding or rewind. (I think this can be fix via firmware update.)

3.) No Internal Hard disk bay. (not really a factor coz I prefer external drive for it is portable and I can bring it anywhere I go).

Hi Spoon! Very nice review!!

Sir Triple HD, thanks also for allowing me to home audition the Cinematube. Spent practically most part of my Sunday viewing movies via this NMT. Here are my newbie impressions:

1) Agree w/ everybody's observation that the unit is "light", but confident that despite it's being light, it is an NMT heavyweight :D

2) Initialization is pretty fast, as well as detection of my 3 external HDDs, also fast file recognition w/ preview :D (around 4-5seconds)

3) PQ is excellent! With my 32-inch LCD, it has the same PQ as the PCH.

4) User Interface is easy to navigate as well as fast

Sir Triple H-D,

Very much interested with the Cinematube. Has anyone tested the torrent downloading? Is it fast and able to utilize the max bandwidth of 1mbps connection if the file is highly seeded?

I really like this feature as I can turn-off my pc, instead of leaving it all night (tipid sa kuryente)

TIA!  ;)

my initial impression on CinemaTube...
i haven't had the time to fully play with it yet, i just watched a couple of movies (mostly 720p H.264 MKVs) over the weekend...

All-in-all it's still a great piece of hardware, especially for its price ...

Thanks for your very valuable feedback sir czerdyk :D The new firmware that's recently been released should fix the problem of the unit turning on by itself.

A new firmware will be released come december which shall include the following

1) 720p Graphical User Interface
2) File Sharing (Simple NAS)
3) File Copy / Move
4) File Search (non-index)
5) RSS (URL is Opened for Users’ Inputs )
6) Blu-ray ISO Support
7) HDD Formatable for BT feature

my initial impression on CinemaTube...
i haven't had the time to fully play with it yet, i just watched a couple of movies (mostly 720p H.264 MKVs) over the weekend...
  • Loads fast (even with the preview on)
  • Didn't experience any hiccups on the files that i played
  • Can be used with our old dependable CRT TVs, the movie is down-scaled to match the TVs resolution
  • Gets a little hot after a few hours of use
  • Very light
  • I did experience the auto-ON "feature" when i turned it off without going to the Home screen first
  • According to my officemate who also bought 1, TS files that we recorded were played flawlessly
  • Haven't checked the firmware yet but based on their site, it seems to be the September release
  • I tried playing a damaged MKV (I can still play it using KMPlayer by moving the locator after the damage section) but was not able to play it in CT, I even tried the GOTO Time function but to no avail

All-in-all it's still a great piece of hardware, especially for its price ...
Thanks to TripleH-D for bringing it here!!! Good luck guys!!!

Anyway plan to shift to DVD HD that's why when i read about Cinematube hanap kagad ako thread dito. Convinced ako sa Cinematube after what i read from here so plan ko na bumili pero wala pa ako makita (specific SM North) then beside sa unit my other problem is what software or DVD ripper ang magandang gamitin i mean yung completo features like convertion to other files, then yung kuha lahat ng laman ng DVD mostly PQ and SQ.

Thanks in advance!

@sir killerant - Hi sir, can you give me the details of your "300" movie file? There is a possibility that maybe the file itself is not high quality therefore "garbage in, garbage out", maybe its the file format itself. It would be better if you give me more details on it so that i can help you on this. btw, sa "300" na movie lang b cya nangyari? or even on other files?

About the "tick" sound, haven't encountered it personally yet, this would be the first time na me problem na ganun. In any case, do update me if this happens often so that i can forward your concern. thanks sir ;D

Then maybe we could bring another unit to you so that we could check whether its the file that has problem or the unit. Pag unit me problema, we'll have it replaced 8)

Just tried out a 580 peso Wifi-N usb dongle from CD-R King (http://www.cdrking.com/local/products/index.php?action=&temp=2&typeno=4324284-081984-097659060-6736591&prod=Wireless&prodcode=0819496-415174-668634979-7023402)...

AND IT WORKS!!

Item code is LP-8697 (WiFi N, 300Mbps), i tried installing it on a desktop and realized that it was using a Realtek-based chipset.  Tried it on the Tube and it got detected immediately.  Was able to connect to my N-router using WPA.

Be wary as there is a wireless dongle that looks exactly like it but is actually a different and slower type.

I noticed something really odd with my Cinematube, after turning it on - after selecting from the menu it would constantly restart itself. It has been happening for the past hour. Anyone else experience this problem?

Hindi ba umiinit sobra yung unit?  Pero I doubt lalo na ngayon malamig naman ang panahon.  Kasi it's basically a "computer", kaya ko na-suspect ang overheating.  Otherwise, it might be a bug in the recent firmware?

Well I don't think its from the heat since it has also happened when I turn it on in the morning. I don't leave it running overnight. As to the firmware, the Tube says its "updated" whenever I try to access the software update button.

I'll try it again later and see what happens.

My Cinema Tube's firmware was upgraded to IPB1009C241 this afternoon.  The interface looks better now, but I'm still having problems making it work with Windows 7 and Video streaming via LAN just stops after a minute.

@sir jepoi - For microstation, it is initially available only at Greenhills and Robinson's branch. Please try visiting theaterworks there in trinoma. I am sure they have it there :)

Hi, I'd like to know if the cinematube is truly off as in no power going to it when you press the on/off switch?  I'm currently an owner of the WDTV HD and turning it off doesn't really turn it off since the unit still remains hot though slightly cooler than when it is on.

Does the cinematube cool down when it is off?  Currently eyeing this as a possible replacement.

Thanks

For the Cinematube, the whole unit is off except for the light indicator. It's not hot at all when it is off :D

How's torrent downloading on this unit?

My top 2 NMT choices are the CinemaTube and Xtreamer, but the latter doesn't have torrent DL capabilities as of yet.  Also, the price is significantly lower than PCH.

I plan on downloading torrents from the NMT, rather than the PC kasi.  Mas makonsumo sa kuryente ang PC ko eh.

I have been downloading torrents using my CinemaTube. So far i didn't have any problem with it. I always left it on 2-3days to finish downloading the files. The transfer speed is fast, I usually get around 100-120kbp/s. But the speed will depends on your internet connection speed.

Regarding the Xtremer, a friend who own one told me that sometimes it has problem playing the video. The screen freezes during playback.

I've had a lot of players myself and problems with video is almost always a problem due to the source.

xtreamer and cinematube use the same SDK from realtek.

The wifi bandwidth is dependent on the card and not on the device.  In the case of the CD-R King usb dongle the answer is yes.

But note that you will still see stutters if your router is not 300 Mbps capable and/or your pc/nas is slow.

Please remember that most 802.11N routers out there do not support 300 Mbps.

thanks, i'll give it a try.  my server and wifi network should be ok.

it's just odd that on brite-view's usb wi-fi page, they show a usb adapter that's capable of 300mbps and says "serious lag" for 1080 files on their performance chart?

well, the device needs the proper drivers so it's a factor also.  i tried the cd-r king usb dongle and it sadly didn't work for me.  my dlink dap-1522 access point didn't get along with it.  it connected fine but can't even stream an mp3 file.  i plugged-it in on my pc and it said it's connected at 300mbps but when i tested the transfer rate it was at a measely 39KB/s.

what router are using with the cd-r king bundle btw?

I posted the CD-R King dongle that I use for my CinemaTube.  Drivers are not a problem for it as it uses a Realtek-based chipset, which is fully compatible with Realtek-based media players.

What dongle did you buy?  If you read my post, the model number has to be the exact one as there is a similar looking dongle that will not work.  Item code is LP-8697 (WiFi N, 300Mbps) from CD-R King.

I have a Cisco 300Mbps 802.11N router.

i bought the same exact thing. as a matter of fact, the sales lady had to go back twice to look for the item code.  she tried to give me a different one at first.  i guess realtek and dlink don't like each other.  i have another usb wifi n dongle that works just fine but not compatible with the cinematube.

i guess realtek and dlink don't like each other.

You need to change settings in the router, try out different channels, frequencies, encryption protocols, etc.  The USB dongle that I had was not initially able to connect to my router and I had to change a few settings for it to work.

If you're not that techie, you may want to post the model number of your D-link router here, maybe we can help you out with the settings.

it's connecting to a dlink dap-1522 AP which is connected thru a gigabit ethernet to a dlink dir-655 router.  and all my media are streamed from a windows home server box.

band is set to 2.4ghz
bandwith to auto 20mhz and 40 mhz
wifi mode i tried both, N only and, N and G (dual band)
tried both with wireless security and without
i tried a couple of channels but failed so i gave up and just enabled channel scan.

according the the AP, the cdr-king dongle only has a 24% signal strength compared to my other dongle which is at 85%.  too bad, that one has a ralink chipset, not realtek.  i'm thinking or returning in exchange for another... maybe i got one with a bad antenna?

My router is set to transmit on both 2.4 and 5 GHz, I use WPA-Personal (TKIP) and not WPA2 or WEP.  I have a beacon period of 100 ms, bandwidth set at 40 MHz only. My channel setting is 1 on the US' FCC system.

Signal strength never dips below 90% from a distance of around 20 ft.

If the dongle doesn't work with similar settings, you might want to have CD-R King replace it.

the dir-655 shouldn't come into equation since my server is connected to a dlink dgs-2205 gigabit switch. i added that switch since the dir-655 doesn't support jumbo frames.  but still, if your ps3 is hooked-up wired then you shouldn't have a problem. wireless? most wifi-n routers i think will not give you smooth stream on ps3?

where i'm trying to connect wireless n with the cinematube is the dap-1522 access point.  i've exchanged the cdr-king usb adapter and still can't connect.  same with my laptop.  if it can't work on a pc then i don't see how it's going to work on a cinematube with a pre-loaded drivers. i've given up for now  :(

Hmmm, after the Feb 2010 fw update, the test avi files I'm using started to stop at certain points, which does not happen when the fw was still the factory default fw. Size of the AVI's are around 200Mb plus, I am using a Buffalo 2.5" HDD.

I am still in the process of downloading an mkv file to check if the problem will occur as well.

I updated the fw using the usb. Any one experienced this problem?

Tried different HDD's and USB sticks, but my unit would just stop and hang in any point, sometimes is I get lucky, the MV or movie would finish. Any help?

Or is it better if I ask for a replacement? I can't say that it was a problem with the files, before I updated the fw, I could play the files flawlessly, it is just when I updated the fw that I encountered this problem.

I tried looking around and there is no way to revert back to the old FW, once upgraded then, thats it.

Can't you downgrade using the boot-up method?

@Verbal

That would be my last resort, to revert to the original FW, but I am having problems downloading the files.

Because of the storm and the brown-out, I had no time reverting my CT box to its old FW. Since this has seven days replacement warranty, I opted to bring it back to Accent Micro and have it replaced.

The replacement unit I got worked flawlessly with all the media files that was stopping and hanging. I got to finish the whole movie without encountering any problems.

Now, my thoughts:
1.) The FW of the first unit I got was 500510099161, the replacement unit's FW was IPB1009B051 - Don't they release CT's with a standard FW?

2.) Should I or should I not upgrade the FW of my CT? My fear is, if I upgrade to the latest FW, I might encounter the same problem of movies stopping and torrent DL's resetting the box. I bought the CT because of that capability.

3.) What would be the difference or assurance that the Online update wont mess up my CT? What would be the major difference of doing an online Update vs the Offline update? Downloading the FW would take around 30 minutes, but if you update Online, it will only take around 10 mins???

4.) Using the 500510099161 or IPB1009B051, the CT does not totally power down, instead, it is just like rebooting the unit. After a few seconds, the CT would power up again, yes, this was fixed in FW IPB10102111, but it totally messed up how my video files played.

What is the current FW in your CT?

I have to get over the fear of updating the FW, sooner or later, my CT will definitely go through that phase.

So, I went ahead and updated my CT's FW via Ethernet connectivity (the update I did with my first CT ws through USB, in which after the updated f*%ked up my unit).

From IPB1009B051 (default FW my CT came with) > IPB10101111 > IPB10106251 (latest FW).

After the update, I tested everything. Gladly, my CT is functoning properly, no stuterring movies, no hanging videos, BT capability working properly (currently downlading an 8Gb file since last night, 50% na sya ngayun).

NOTE:
I really don't know what is the big difference in updating the FW via ethernet vs USB. As far as my research in various forums, update via USB must be done only if you want to revert back to an older FW. Update using wireless connectivity is also not recommended by many as it would take too long for it to complete.

For a 6k NMT, I'm very happy with my CT. Media player and Torrent rig at the same time. Next project, a large capacity HDD.

Hi,

I bought my CT earlier and tried to play several videos. I noticed that the sound was really low. My CT is connected to my projector via Component and connected to my yamaha AVR via toslink. I have already maxed the volume of CT but it only made it a little louder. My normal audio volume when i watch using my PS3/DVD and my AVR is -15db to -20db. But when i use this volume w/ CT, I couldn't hear any thing! i need to volume up to +5 to +10db for me to hear the normal audio which is really loud that is causing the speakers to produce noise.

Any one also having this issue? how did you solve it? thanks! ;)

I updated to the latest FW last night and its still the same. I also noticed that this only happens with videos with AAC audio. Does CT have issues with AAC conversion? pls. advise. Thanks!

hi there who can help me. I have been using the bright view CT torrent downloader  a year now since Feb 2010 with latest firmware IBP10106251. Then 2 weeks ago, the torrent download no longer works. But the media player still works. I reformatted my HDisk to reinstall the torrent apps. no luck. I used port forwarding on my router enabling ports 6681-6689. No luck. I connected direct to the internet cable modem. No luck. Still no download. But my PC torrent download works meaning I still get an internet connection. I dunno what to do next. thanks for any help

Pagpalit niyo ng fw, it will look exactly like the Mede8er firmware.  Madali lang maintindihan yung GUI.  Yung AC Ryan di ko pa nasusubukan.

Found the location of other firmware, revisions included.

I'm using Rev6 of the AC Ryan cfw right now.  I kinda like the look and feel of the Mede8er cfw better.  This has more apps, though, and it auto updates.  Supposedly skinnable too but I haven't tried it yet.

Is it better? Can't say for certain as of the moment.

Torrent downloading has been iffy at best. Also, bandwidth doesn't get maximized.

Other than playing HD files, I utilize my AC Ryan fw for podcasts and playing files over SMB (Windows) shares.

Iffy or not, how do I even get it to start working? Which firmware should I use and where do I find the function in the menu?

If you have a router, then yes, you need to set up the above.

para mas madali, set your NMT to DHCP para auto na yung setup sa IP, DNS, etc.

You may need to open ports for torrent to work.  If you plan to put the nmt on a DMZ, you will need to configure a static IP and maybe even DNS.

In any case, I suggest you try raptor's suggestion first, if you can't get any connections, you will need to go to your router's support documentation online to make torrents work. :)

^^Mukhang pwede yung mga universal basta 12V/2A tsaka positive ang gitna. Di naman sya mapili sa adaptor basta pareho ng rating. Yung sakin interchangeable sa adaptor ng Astone enclosure ko.
